I know the numbers are strong, and there are still a good amount of people playing Halo 2 on Live, but when it really comes down to it, Halo 2 is way, and I mean WAY passed its glory days...just think back to all the people who camped out for Halo 2 in front of stores, all the hype, and all the publicity. Now look at it. The only people that seem to play it now are the hardcore MLG guys, and the casual, "hey Halo is just lying around, what the hell, lets pop it on in" people. And yes this does have to do with the 360 being released, but still, everyone is on to bigger and better things...All I can think now when I play Halo is, "Halo 3 cannot come fast enough" but then it will die, and you look back at all the evenings you wasted in front of the TV, all the laughs, and trash talk... *sob* *cry*...

Hey Halo 2 is just lying around, what the hell, lets pop 'er on in and play.

I play all the time and I'm definitely not MLG. I'm pretty sure there's still a lot of people who play regularly and aren't MLG players. However, when Halo 3 comes out, I'm done with Halo 2. I may come back and play it every once in a while but that'll be one of those, "Hey, Halo 2 is just lying around. What the hell. Let's pop 'er on in and play" moments.

"We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We're evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that."

It's not dying, but it's quality player base has deteriorated significantly. I originally had Live a month after Halo 2 came out; people were just better in every way. People here whine about Bungie changing the playlists, that's not what the problem is. The problem is the only people that are playing Halo 2 online regularly at this point are largely a group of -blam!- -blam!-s. In the months after Halo 2's release, people weren't glitching like crazy, they'd actually stay in a game and communicate with you. They wouldn't BXR you to death repeatedly and while there were Standbyers, I remember both teams would ally together and kill him as many times as possible until he left.

Halo 2 is still fun to play online, don't get me wrong... but it used to be (like the rest of Halo) bloody incredible, and the fault for that downturn lies squarely at the feet of the numerous jerks who play.
