OK, I bought a computer this year, with the following specs:

AMD 64 3800+ Processor
1.5 GB Ram (1 gb standard... 512 mb upgrade)
nVidia GeForce 6100 LE Graphics Card
250 GB Hd
160 GB external HD

ok, i think that is all i need.

but my question is, with all that, WHY do i have to turn framerate to below 30, with everything on low or off, at 800x600?

is my computer that bad?

Its your Graphics card. The 6100 LE is really bottom of the barrel.

Notice, guys, that he said it's Halo 1 PC, not Halo 2.

Anyway, even with Halo 1, that graphics card is pretty bad. It's integrated, for starters. Also, I'd like to quote Nessy on this one. "LE = Lame Edition." You might want to force Halo to run in DX8 with shader model 1.4 by adding -use14 as an argument. To do that, simply right-click your Halo icon on your desktop, click properties, and, under "Target," add [space]-use14 to the end, with "[space]" being an actual space. You must use your Halo icon to boot Halo for this to work. If your performance is still bad, you might even bump that down to shader model 1.1 by using -use11 insted of -use14. Running Halo with SM 1.1 will look like crap (solid yellow shields, etc.), but it'll give you much better performance.

i have the money, or WILL have the money for a new card soon... but which kind? and how do I (since the old is onboard and can't be removed) make the system to default to the NEW video card?
