There's a reason why Halo 2 is different; and you just stated it. Campaign better? That's your opinion, I find Halo 2's campaign so much better because there are so many amazing Vistas to behold, and traversing the galaxy makes the campaign feel worth it - not playing half a game then repeating it for the second half.By "amazing Vistas to behold," do you mean an extremely linear level design with an unhealthy amount of death barriers?
Halo 2 is so linear, sometimes I almost feel like Master Chief is a train, stuck on rails, and you can only change how fast he goes through the level. :/
It doesnt matter if there is 1 or 1000 meter wide walkway if there is nothing. GTA is completely based on big levels, but you could as well have few blocks, you still do the same stuff. I like big areas but it doesnt matter if there is nothing, Halo2 has great athmosphere as well as Halo1.
Exactly
And what I mean is by views - not areas you can traverse - because even though Halo 2 is more linear than Halo 1 - Halo 2 did have some fairly huge levels.
Some examples
Cairo's MAC Gun
The large buildings of New Mombasa
The Lake of Delta Halo, specifically from Regret's place of prayer
the Sentinal Wall, from both the gondola and that little area down below on the side you reach
The Library, seeing the large Transportation thing crash downwards
High Charity
The Control Room from various places.
These are only a small sample - when I get Halo 2 Vista, check the PC Forum and you'll see all the Vistas I'm talking about.
Halo 1 didn't have much to offer in my opinion. Sure, seeing the great distance from the cliffsides of the level Halo were great, but it's the only thing you saw of its nature throughout the game.
The ring from the Pillar of Autumn is so tiny the ship actually hovers over it.
Halo 2 has alot to offer - the only real problem I find with it is that Bungie designs their areas with only one major way through. For example, Delta Halo would be alot better if you could walk across it as well, and not have to be forced into huge empty areas with no ammo, and too many ghosts to count.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Halo 1. It's just that Halo 1 had large areas with very little inside these areas, whereas Halo 2 had smaller areas with alot more inside, and larger areas that you could not reach.
