I think they are. What do you guys think? Bungie.net, if you ban me, you are just proving my point.

If you want to be a part of one of the greatest and most active communities in the seventh column, come here. You will thank me later.

They get the job done.

Some of the rules are enforced more strictly than others. Saying "noob," by-passing the -blam!- filter, bumping, duplicate threads (I've seen quite a few of them on a front page at once) are all things which are supposedly against the rules, yet everyone around here does them regularly, and they don't get in trouble for it.

There are some things that you might not expect to run into, if you haven't studied the rules carefully. Someone can get also get banned for posting one of those "shocker" clips that everyone loves so much. Starting a discussion that is related to modding can also get one banned. Simply replying to spam can eventually get you banned as well, if you do it excessively, but it will at least get you a warning (as I've learned first-hand).

I guess some of the moderators are tighter than others. Shishka used to be quite merciless on the forums back in his day (which drew many haters).

In short, there are some things which you can get away with, and some which you really need to be careful about. It's easy to screw up when you first start posting on bungie.net, and it takes a bit of time to feel your way around what you're allowed to say.

At the end of the day, the moderators keep this place as safe, enjoyable, and orderly as it can, so you should really thank them ;)

They get the job done. What they enforce isn't strictly written down. Obviously, to some extent it is so people know what to expect but it depends on the severity of the situation. I applaud them for the endless hours spent patrolling these forums and having to deal with all the hatemail they get because someone doesn't know the rules.

Also, I just looked at your thread because I have no life and I have to agree with the ninja's decision. There's an edit feature, use it. :D

I'd love to prove your point. Everyone knows we are somewhat evil, how many evil people aren't strict? And the Ninja's don't enjoy being cruel (well... I assume they don't... I enjoy it just a little bit), but you have to be heavy handed just to keep up with the immense traffic this Community provides.

How about this:

Where have all the mods gone?

Like really the forums have been feeling almost moderator-less lately...

Forum ninjas too strict? Heh, if anything, they need to gestapo-ize their selves to rid this forum of the parasitic children that multiply like toilet scum.

Trigger Happy should know how I feel about how the mods run things. I feel that using bans for everything is a little much, when a simple PM warning the person would suffice for most of the things they ban for. They then watch that person and see if he does the same thing again, and ban him after that. I have been banned for merely posting in a thread about "haxed info" that was posted in another thread, and I was defending Bungie and trying to discount what was said by the "haxed info". Its getting a little out of hand IMO.

Posting/linking too makes sense, but merely discussing leaked content/haxed info? Are we really trying to kill the point of the forums? To discuss the game and things that involve it? that includes the discussion of rumors and finding out whether or not they are true. That is what the forums are for. If you are going to destroy the very point of discussion by banning anybody who tries to merely find out the truth behind things and discuss their viability, then you might as well delete the forums.

So if someone posts pr0n, they should just get a warning? No. It's situational and subjective. Just because you disagree doesn't mean it was the wrong action taken on the ninja's part.

That was within the rules as long as no one asked for it or distributed it or was offering it via the public forums. It's also stated clearly in the rules that any discussion of modding is not tolerated. I really don't see what the problem is here.

The rules change often, very often. I have been confronted with rule changes several times that I was unaware of, and banned for breaking. First it was linking to. Then it was asking for, then it was merely discussing. Thats three bans on me. They don't tell members of rule updates, they don't even warn you after breaking a new rule, they just ban you.

And you very well know pr0n is a no-brainer, and a bad example for what I am talking about. I was referring to minor infractions, which is what all my examples are of. That is not a minor infraction. Nor is spamming, flaming, vulgarity, or other such intentional infractions that are meant to break the rules purposefully. What I am saying is that banning for EVERYTHING, including the smallest things, is too far. Banning kills the motivation of a user to return, especially when it is for something as small as a misunderstanding/ignorance of the rules (bumping a thread like is aloud on most any other forum after a certain time, or similar level things). Why cant we simply warn them with a quick PM? Its done on many forums, even saying it in the topic is done on massive forums such as Neowin.net and others. Bungie.net is the ONLY forum i know of or attend that uses bans so blatantly and freely.

It's not the ninjas' fault you don't check the stickies often enough, but you should know the general rules and if something was leaked or something major happened, check the stickies or check to see if a new sticky was put up. It wouldn't kill you to check.

Bungie.net is the ONLY forum i know of or attend that uses bans so blatantly and freely.I know a couple people that were banned for responding to spam and "chatting". They've been warned enough times about it and they deserved the ban. Perhaps you caught the ninja on a bad day. So what? Get over it. They don't ban for "EVERYTHING". That's what the warning system is for. The ninjas ban people because they don't want them here, so I think that it would be the purpose of a ban - to kill the person's motivation to return, and if they still want to return they should try to be better members. If you've read the stickies you'd know that "ignorance of the rules" is not an excuse. There's a warning system in place. It used to be PMs but since the New Hawtness 2.0 or whatever the current fanciness is called it's done via the Soul. I've also seen ninjas post a warning in a thread to keep the members on-topic and within the rules. Also, if you don't like the way Bungie.net is run, find a different forum. No one is forcing you to be here.
