load of bull.

although I'd be happy to play it on XP (Don't have vista yet), it would probably be SO laggy and crappy. Even if I have an ub3r gaming machine, it would still probably lag. They designed it for VISTA. i dont care if I have to pay $800 for a new cpu (Current one sucks. Still runs Halo 1 fine :P ), i'd first TRY halo 2 on XP, but if it won't work, I'm dumping that idea and waiting for something good enough to happen in my education that my parents will pay $800.

ROFL. I think I laughed soda through my nose reading (paraphrased) "but my friends at Geek Squad told me Vista sucked!!111".

LOL Geek Squad. I haven't met a Geek Squad employee who knows WTH they're talking about. Ask one of them about instruction pipelines or the importance of L1/L2 Cache in CPUs, or ask one of them about how many pixel pipelines an 8800GTS has and watch their eyes glaze over as they go hunting down their "product introduction sheet" to try to find the answers.

Back to the subject at hand. EVEN IF Falling Leaf Systems can get a DX10 "emulation method" to work on XP, since Live for Windows runs through both DX10 libraries AND .Net Framework, chances are slim to none that you could ever play H2V beyond campaign. No Live, no friends lists, no multiplayer, no achievements, JUST campaign. Still think it's worth it?

Windows XP compatibility
On the 16th of May 2007, it was announced[67] that Falling leaf systems is going to release a compatibility pack for Halo 2 to run on windows XP. The pack is estimated to be ready for July 2007. Compatibility libraries will be provided (when ready) when Halo is ordered from their site[68]. As Halo 2 is currently a Vista only game, it is unknown what Microsoft's stance on this is.

my bet is that microsoft stance on this is going to be @!#$ off, because they probably don't think its worth making a patch for a system their discontinuing in 08

Ok I will end this thread.
Halo 2 Vista will never come to XP hence the name VISTA it was never going to be put on XP, and the people who are trying to emulate it will get sued more than likely, so stop -blam!-ing buy Vista nad enjoy Halo 2. (If you would like to wait about 10-20 years when no one gives a -blam!- about Halo 2 Vista, then you may probrobly be able to emulate it for XP.)

Let this thread die.

Doesn't H2V use DX9?

Yeppers.

What is up in the air, however, is whether it's a true DX9 or an emulated DX9 through the DX10 libraries. I'm personally figuring the latter, but that's just speculation and I have no empirical data to back it up. But since every copy of Vista shipped with DX10, and then there was a big hubub about games playing slower because of the DX calls, I think it's most likely that it runs through an emulated DX9 thru the DX10 libraries.

Gee, lemme see, someone asked me a question. I answered it.

I don't recall seeing you type in orange or yellow so you have zero authority to declare a thread "over".

I think there's a total of about four people here in the Maw who I'd actually listen to if they came in and declared a thread "over" and yer not one of them.

  • 06.19.2007 5:20 PM PDT

Slaying noobs since 2007.

It's fine Captiosus, just let this go, Spartennum117 is a very respectable guy, so please this thread was another one of those duh things, and the people that start these kind of threads should not be given a moments notice, and above all should never be allowed to get over 3 posts. There are stickies and the OP's of these kind of threads should read them, and hell, every once and a while read the title of the game they are going to discuss. So please for all that is worth a -blam!- let this die, to everyone.

Okay, but while it's at the top of the page, let me state that I wouldn't consider a thread bumped unless it was like on the twentieth page of topics and it's five months old.

Which means what, you are unbelievably gullible and know nothing of which you speak? How about you go do yourself and us a favor and go make friends which don't beat themselves up with one hand constantly, or better go back to kindergarten.

Who the hell is this dip-blam!-? And who the hell says sa weeeet? Other than the obvious, redneck yokels.

Honestly, if you're going to insult someone, at least take the time to make it worth reading you cerebrally challenged protein stain.

Not for H2V or Shadowrun, no.

For H2V you can play online, but are limited to earning single player achievements and are restricted from joining "gold only" servers or hosting your own servers.

For Shadowrun, you can play online, but only against other PC owners (no crossplatform play).
