Subject: So, is anyone having fun with H2V at all?

I come here off and on and all I see are complaints about H2V for whatever reason. I would like to know if anyone has it working and is actually having fun with it before I consider buying it.

Thanks a lot.

I played H2v at my friend's house when we were both extremely bored. It bored us up even more.

Overall, it's a eff'd up port. Nothing works. MP is unbalanced to total hell. It's a huge system whore. Dang, H2x is much better than this Vista exclusive piece of crap.

EDIT: Re-reading my post, I can safely predict that a bunch of H2v supporters here are going to be flaming the hell out over this. Go ahead, and pretend there are no major flaws.

I dont see why people complain so much, what did you expect.

I played almost 3000 games on xbox version and I still like vista, the graphics are improved, the FPS loss isn't even noticeable unless you have a crap computer, and people complain about that like its the end of the world.

All and all the only way its not ballanced is if you suck, because I have played using the controller and keyboard and get within the top 2 players every game. Wow its so unbalanced, I mean i win every game because I am good. Its no more unbalanced than halo 2 xbox, which is all standby and cheaters.

Possitive things about this game? If you have a good computer there is never lag, ever. I have a highend computer and it never lagged once, and the achievements are sweet.

The map editor sucks ass though.

Many of us don't have crap computers and can't run any higher than medium on a low resolution. That's terrible for Halo 2.

And yes, the game is quite unbalanced, especially if you spawn with an SMG. The reason you always get first (as do I) is because we have both played the Xbox version a lot, so we know understand every weapon and we know where every weapon spawns and we just generally know every map (common camping spots, etc.). A lot of H2V players right now don't know the game very well yet because they haven't played it before on Xbox.

Positive things: Yes the game is still really fun if you don't mind running on low settings, unless of course you have an $8,000 alienware computer... then you'll be just fine lol. And also if you don't happen to experience the hundreds of bugs people seem to be having... then yeah, it's fun. Great game; bad port.

The few, the proud, the leet.

Depends on what you call a flaw. Through an industry standard perspective, H2V is the worst mainstream title out there.

Hmm. I imagine I could be having some fun with it if it would ALLOW ME TO CONNECT TO LIVE. GG, Microsoft/Hired Gun.

  • 06.16.2007 5:49 PM PDT

I guess I'm the only one that likes it. It plays almost like the original on xbox (which I have played since it came out). I'm lucky because I haven't had any of the bugs that others speak of and I'm playing it on my laptop so I can play it anywhere which is nice. Is it a perfect game? Not at all. But neither is the xbox version. As of right now, the play seems a little more balanced and in some ways more fun then the xbox version. I also like the fact that I can pick and choose what game I want to join by doing a game search rather than having the game arbitrarily place me in a game or map that I don't care for. Did I mention that it is fast to connect to any given server? Wait times for games on Xbox Live can be lengthy to say the least. Once you pick your game it connects almost immediately.

So there are just a few of my observations.

F-f-f-f-fling yourself.

I'm having a lot of fun with it; it's a great game I don't see how you couldn't be enjoying yourself.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Satellite Internet. :(

  • 06.16.2007 6:00 PM PDT

What it is.

Yeah, right now, i think it's fun. But it would be 100x better if HG/MS released a patch to fix numerous problems, including the dreaded LIVE one, which i have experienced once(i tried installing it on my bros comp and it wouldn't connect to live for some reason). Other than that, i enjoy it, although i kinda of wish there was matchmaking, not ranked matchmaking though, but rather on like your gamer zone/preference in game. It would be nice once in a while to just be set up into a game with equal amount of players and not have lopsided teams. Anywho, game is great, i personally don't care what other people think...

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Besides the aforementioned performance issues, H2V is running pretty good for me. It's not a perfect game, but it's pretty good, and I haven't had any errors or anything. And my PC is not the greatest. Actually, it's close to low end.

Dude I have a high end computer and it doesnt run bad AT ALL.

Its also a port which is why it does run bad an lower computers.

And all games are unbalanced if you are better then people, its the way all games are. Like what did you expect them to do, completely change the game by changing weapon spawns.

Everyone has to learn, when i started I got owned all the time, but if you practice and play with other good people it is far from unbalanced.

  • 06.16.2007 9:32 PM PDT

What it is.

^Kinda like if i were to start playing CSS(a game that i hate), i'd get owned because i never play it.

MTFBWY!

Believe it or not, I'm really liking H2V. I've probably played more Halo 2 Vista MP than I have Halo 2 Xbox MP. (I purchased my first Xbox, an Xbox 360, last November, along with H2X.) The only time I really play H2X MP is in custom matches with a few friends, and even then, not often. I love the game, but I've never really played a ton of MP. But, with H2V, I've played a bunch of MP (mostly because of the achievements). Over the course of my playing, I've made over ten new friends (and not just random people - really nice people who I've been having a blast with). In case you're wondering, I alternate between the mouse and keyboard and the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller (depending on how I feel).

Between the achievements, the slightly better graphics, GFW LIVE, and the option to use either mouse & keyboard or 360 controller have made me really love H2V. The Halo 3 Beta I played a lot, but until Halo 3 is released, Halo 2 Vista is, IMHO, the best Halo game out yet.

i like it alot

i think im just one of the few people who are running into none or very few problems with this game.

works fine for me, it does crash once in a while, and my fps could be better but its nothing to whine about.

And Halo 1 PC wasn't?

Actually, no it wasn't. Yes, H1PC was a "bad" port, but it wasn't as screwed up as H2v. Yes just like H2v, it was sort of a system hog, but a decent card could run it with no problems. Multiplayer? FYI, MP in H1 is a lot more balanced than H2's multiplayer. Why do you think 7 year olds had so much more fun in H2? MP in H2 is basically "run-to-the-big-guns-then-you-win-kthnxbai".

  • 06.17.2007 12:45 PM PDT

Slaying noobs since 2007.

I have to disagree with you here lpjunnin, because I can own any 7-year old with just a dual pp and pistol. If you study how much ammo it actually takes to kill someone you will find it's not a lot from any weapon, for instance the smg can kill in 8-12 shots if you pulse it. And the br if used correctly is only 4, or 2 and a sm. But true, if a kid gets a energy sword and you are a mediocre player it make take a minute to get it away from them.

I bought it Thursday and have enjoyed playing through it again, but this time in high res!

Worked fine on my PC at max settings and i've enjoyed a few games over live.
Once I got past the fact that it is an old game and an XBOX port I didn't stop playing.

One improvement I've seen over the XBOX version is the NPC AI. It is much better than the XBOX's and the guys seem to follow me into more fights than the XBOX version.

Overall It was fun and I got Halo CE free with Halo2 so it's double the fun.

Wow guys, thank you for all the input and comments in this thread, this will help me in making a decision to get it. I only saw one post though from someone on a laptop, does it do ok on a laptop? I'm getting a new PC soon as well so I'll be picking this up :) The laptop info is for a buddy of mine.

Again thanks for the input everyone.

I assume that you are referring to me. Yes, It works fine on my laptop. I have it set up for performance rather than battery life (I leave it plugged in 90% of the time anyway) and I am running on medium res. but it still looks as good as the xbox version and as I said before, I think I enjoy this version over the xbox. So far I haven't experienced any lag or decrease in FPS so I really couldn't be happier with the vista version. I can understand others disappointment with the trouble in setting it up and the few bugs that are mentioned elsewhere.

I have noticed though, people that seem to have trouble with H2V are usually the ones that have upgraded their computer to vista from XP and then installed H2V. I bought a new laptop with vista already installed and then installed H2V. The only thing that I had to do was update my NVIDIA driver and install another Gig of RAM (from 1 Gig, which the computer came with, to 2 Gigs) that was it. It has worked flawlessly since then.

I will reiterate once again, my favorite thing about H2V is being able to pick and choose what matches I want to join by looking at the server list. This is a much better system in my opinion than matchmaking in the xbox version. If I get into a game and I don't really like the setup I can always get out and look for another game much quicker than matchmaking was set up for xbox live. JMO

Take care.

Well, for me, singleplayer sucks cause my computers sucks. It freezes up every 2 seconds and permanently freezes up in the middle of a mission, so I doubt I'll ever be able be able to finish the campaign unless I get a better computer. So make sure your computer is good enough to run the game before you buy. I haven't played much multiplayer yet, but from what little I've played, it suprisingly was not very laggy for my computer (go figure). However the flaw with multiplayer is that there isn't many players or servers from what I've seen. Also loading levels and missions in single player takes forever (though that's prolly cause of my computer's crappyness). Overall to me, even with the game's flaws and my computer's crappyness, I still enjoy it cause I mostly get a game for multiplayer anyway. There's my opinion. My advice: if your computer is crappy, consider the cons I listed above before you buy the game. If you can put up with the problems like me that's great. If not, it prolly isn't worth the 50 bucks.

my laptop cost me 1.7k (Asus G1. look at the Asus G1S tho. $200 more, but it's a lot better) and i could run h2v with 4x AA and on high setting. and a decent resolution with minimal lag. the only lag i get is from my crappy dsl connection.
