I played H2v at my friend's house when we were both extremely bored. It bored us up even more.

Overall, it's a eff'd up port. Nothing works. MP is unbalanced to total hell. It's a huge system whore. Dang, H2x is much better than this Vista exclusive piece of crap.

EDIT: Re-reading my post, I can safely predict that a bunch of H2v supporters here are going to be flaming the hell out over this. Go ahead, and pretend there are no major flaws.

And Halo 1 PC wasn't?

Actually, no it wasn't. Yes, H1PC was a "bad" port, but it wasn't as screwed up as H2v. Yes just like H2v, it was sort of a system hog, but a decent card could run it with no problems. Multiplayer? FYI, MP in H1 is a lot more balanced than H2's multiplayer. Why do you think 7 year olds had so much more fun in H2? MP in H2 is basically "run-to-the-big-guns-then-you-win-kthnxbai".

I don't find that a Valid Halo 2 Vista Argument. That arguement was going on all through the ages of halo 2, it was to be expected of halo 2 vista, its net like they were going take AA off.

But although weapon control seems to be a huge part of halo 2 game play, don't think of it has taking less skill to kill people, think of it as taking more skill to separate yourself from the average level of players, where you can win every 1vs1 encounter with what you have. I know its wack, but to deal with noobs in halo 2 you must separate yourself from them.

ok so you want to have fun on h2v here is how:
play custom games. just playing the default games does get old. take it from the xbox players - make zombies, cat and mouse, tower of power, tremors, lava man, hide and seek, tag, etc.

custom games exploit halo's greatest attribute - possibility

you want to have fun, then get an imagination

All the people who are saying you can only run it at low to get a decent framerate.... I thought that was the case too.... Until today... I upped it to high and I only lost maybe 5 fps.... Looks much better... Well worth it :D

Give it a try...

and don't turn on 4xAA... It completely kills it....

(Low end PC)

I have all my settings turned up, and I very rarely lag. Loading can be a bit of a pain but otherwise, no problems at all.

People will complain, it's human nature. Whenever something doesn't meet their expectations, people whine. Nothing is perfect. You either like it and play it, or hate it and move on to something else. Here's a thought, if you hate the port so much, stfu and play something else. Duh...

I only saw one post though from someone on a laptop, does it do ok on a laptop?
I assume that you are referring to me. Yes, It works fine on my laptop. I have it set up for performance rather than battery life (I leave it plugged in 90% of the time anyway) and I am running on medium res. but it still looks as good as the xbox version and as I said before, I think I enjoy this version over the xbox. So far I haven't experienced any lag or decrease in FPS so I really couldn't be happier with the vista version. I can understand others disappointment with the trouble in setting it up and the few bugs that are mentioned elsewhere.

I have noticed though, people that seem to have trouble with H2V are usually the ones that have upgraded their computer to vista from XP and then installed H2V. I bought a new laptop with vista already installed and then installed H2V. The only thing that I had to do was update my NVIDIA driver and install another Gig of RAM (from 1 Gig, which the computer came with, to 2 Gigs) that was it. It has worked flawlessly since then.

I will reiterate once again, my favorite thing about H2V is being able to pick and choose what matches I want to join by looking at the server list. This is a much better system in my opinion than matchmaking in the xbox version. If I get into a game and I don't really like the setup I can always get out and look for another game much quicker than matchmaking was set up for xbox live. JMO

Take care.

So you have other avenues for finding games other than matchmaking? I thought it only had matchmaking but if it also has what your saying that is awesome.

To be completely honest, it doesn't even really have "matchmaking" as it's known in the Xbox world.
You get 4 multiplayer options in H2V (assuming Gold membership):

The first one takes you (or your party) and puts you into an existing server. More often than not, it likes to dump you into an empty server. Sometimes it puts you in a server with other players, but it's really hit-or-miss.

The second one allows you to create your own search options to search for games of your liking.

The third one, the server browser (the only thing accessible to Live Silver accounts), just displays a list of all the servers. However, if a server is full, it does not display it on the list (there's no toggle option to allow for viewing of full servers). The server browser allows you to sort by name, ping, map, gametype, variant and number of players. It also has an icon that will show up on the player number if a friend is in that server as well as an icon on the map column to let you know if a server is using a custom map.

The fourth is simply create a match. Nuff said.

I come here off and on and all I see are complaints about H2V for whatever reason. I would like to know if anyone has it working and is actually having fun with it before I consider buying it.

Thanks a lot.
Yes, I am having a lot of fun with it. That is, except for the Scarab Gun achievement, which I hate. That which was so easy on the Xbox is next to impossible on my lappy, what with my son kicking the side of the laptop every 15 seconds or so. I've only made three attempts at it, but I was able to do it on demand every time on the Xbox :-(
