STFU people have a right to quit WHENEVER they feel like it

You're absolutely right, they do.

I'm just asking for people to not be selfish, what's wrong with that?

by the way mods, is "STFU" adhering to the "the "play nice" rule" ? Just want to be absolutely clear ;)

Actually it is. I made a thread asking if Acronyms were considered filter dodges: And they aren't.

You may have good grammar, but you have terrible socialization skills. Somehow you spawned a thread where you get a large amount of flaming, without typing in a form which nobody can read. That is so difficult there ought to be a 360 Achievement for it worth 3000 GP. It should be dubbed "Being a Prick on Video Game Forums".

Now back on topic: Quitting is something like people killing each other. You can't really stop it. But you can take measures to prevent it (which would include partying up and not going into areas where its prone to happen). Well perhaps that was a bad analogy, but quitting is basically something that is going to keep on happening, no matter what you do. Yes, you can leave feedback for it (probably the only solution). And the blue screen lasts about 5 seconds, it is not a big deal.

If you bothered to come here and try to admonish the rest of the forumgoeers with your "superior" vocabulary, then you should have enough time to wait for five seconds. And be happy: You get a higher rank in the FFA play lists, their rank takes a severe hit. So they are punished (because getting last kind of sucks).

However, quitting in team play lists is a problem. My solution to adopt would be that of a "quit percentage". This way if you had a bad day, and had to quit a lot, you would not really be affected if you played a lot of other games. Quit percentage would work like this:

If you quit under 10% of your games, nothing happens to you. You get matched with people with similar quit %s. If you quit 10-25% of your games, then you get matched with like minded people. I'm sorry, but you don't lag out of 1/10 games. Unless your playing on Dial-Up (which means you shouldn't be playing XBL in the first place) or some kind of Wireless Broad Band provider ( THIS IS NOT A WIRELESS NETWORK!!! YOU GET YOUR INTERNET ITSELF VIA WI-FI ). etc. And you don't have something come up in more then 10-25% of your games. And even if you do, you get matched up with people with "similar problems". Yes, every man has the right to quit. But some people don't like it. So if you have no problem with your buddies suffering because you quit, should you have a problem with yourself suffering it? Hell no!

And Above 25% quit percentage gets matched up. If you are here, you would have to just play through all of those crummy games, until you are finally back with the rest of us.

solution A: do not allow a quitter to start another game until the one he left finshes.
solution B: take extra points off for quitting
solution C: incorporate a quit %, which is used for matchmaking to match those who quit a lot with others with the same status, separating quitters from those who finish games.
solution D: wait period after a game is quitted that increases as the person quits more and more games within a time period, which a 24 hour period would be appropriate. this could be like A, but for every game quit after the first one in a 24 hour period, the time that was waited for every game that needed to be finished will be added to each other.

example:
person quits game 1 5 minutes before it ends. total wait time: 5 minutes.
person quits game 2 10 minutes before it ends. total wait time: 15 minutes.
person quits game 10 7 minutes before it ends. total wait time: 22 minutes.

now if you do not like solution D or any of the other solutions, please show me how this would harm those who quit for legit reasons, which would only happen rarely, as opposed to those who quit because they dont like the game or whatever blah, blah, blah. note: connection problems are a reoccuring problem, so either fix it or face the consequences.

i like it. except... as you point out connection problems are a recurring problem. what about those unfortunate to suffer a connection problem? "i didnt want to quit" is a whole seperate catagory from "i have to quit for some important reason" and "i want to quit cause im lame and hate this game" now how do u justify punishing these people. unfortunately its a vicious circle. you cant please anyone... EVER!!

Bravo we have found a genius. I personally like A. Because if someone has an unreliable connection or bowel problems then D would be harsh. You need to send this to Xbox Live. Nice post to get this forum back on track. That smartguy was trying to change the world and not propose any solutions.

sadly i am not the first person to think of A, but i do think i sort of pioneered D, but i cannot be certain. i was merely trying to bring in solutions from long dead threads to see how well they do.

ok for once im not going to complain with what someone said (sorta)... "hiddenxmessage" i have a question for you...see theres one more reason that it displays the "...quit" message at the top of your screen...its called lagging out...not everyone has good connections...i hate those people...but anyway...how do you expect them to be dealt with...is it really fair to them to punish them for a crappy connection?...

for example: i was playing a game on halo 3's beta...5 minutes into the game i lagged out...i lost and RP and a rank...is it fair that i lose that because i lagged out...i dont think so...i was in second place..why should i get punished for the one time i actually lag out...this is fair nor is it acceptable...do you...do you think this is fair?

the lag out because of a bad connection is a tough issue, some people lag out because of bad connections, and some lag out because they cannot take a loss and so they pull the plug. but who can tell? we have to give them the benefit of the doubt.

would you sacrifice 5 minutes of your time once and a while to solve a much larger problem of chronic quitters? for me i know i would be frustrated a bit from a legit lagout, which does happen every now and then, but if it keeps my teammates from quitting for poor reasons, then so be it.

and also, it is the 21st century, and if you can afford a) an xbox or a 360 b) xbox live c) the videogame. cant you afford an internet connection better than dial up?

true true...trust me i have a good connection...but i also have parents that tend to hog my network..but yea i wish there was a way to separate the legit lag outs from the "pulled plug lag outs"... but until then i wish i wouldnt get punished for a lag..thats all im sayin

Its ok for not being the original creator of A, but im glad you brought it up. It really is a good idea. Even if you lag out you would only have to wait at most 12 minutes. I want to thank hidden and disturbed for getting this forum back on track because i didnt like the direction the old pervert was taking it. He tried to make kids feel stupid in their own VIDEO GAME FORUM. Come on its a video game. But nothing we can do will change what Bungie or Xbox Live will do about cheaters. There are too many variables with online play to arrive at one definate conclusion.

no, choices we make can never please everyone, but if every choice displeases someone, then why move forward? well some action has to be taken, so we have to find the right path that pleases as many people as possible.

i addressed the connection issue a bit ago. if you have to quit for an important reason, by the time you come back from taking care of important buisness and reboot your system, the game would be over and you would experience no wait.

those who quit and do not have an important reason to quit and do not have connection issues make the rest of the players equally frustrated as those who quit for a valid reason or a bad connection, but one thing differs, and that is intentions.

who would you punnish more severely, one who stole a loaf of bread to feed his starving family, or one who stole a loaf of bread because he could?
obviously they both commited the same crime, but with different intentions. both will be punnished, but one more severely than others.

the one who quits because they dont like the game is the same as the one who steals a loaf of bread because he can. therefore his punnishment should be to wait until the game he quit finishes, where the person who quits with a reason might feel some backlash from the wait time, but more than likely will not be able to play until long after the wait time has been lifted.

Alls well and and good: Except if you have a bad day. Looking at life time quit % gives a better picture of the actual player.

D is bad. What if you have a bad day? My post on quit % is better.

it is all about trial and error. one bad idea is one more direction not to take, with enough directions to not take, eventually the right direction will become easier to find.

what if your quit % would be combined with my "solution A"?

wait, i dont think that would work because if "solution A" would be used, those with bad connections would be the ones with the highest quit percentages, unless there would be a few who still like to wait for all those games to finish.

from my experience with having bad days, going into another game right away makes it worse, so maybe those extra minutes to wait around would give people time to cool down, get a drink or something.

example: game starts (CTF Midship)(noobs) the first wave of their team came out their base to a instant death thay spawn and die a couple more times...

they quit!

game ends we win rank goes up but i have 6 kills 0 deaths....i hate that because now my kpg goes down by alot

I HATE noobs who quit because they lost

The quit percentage is already in some games like Madden. Only its called Did Not Finish (DNF) and is good indicator of whether the person wusses out or cheats and gets caught doing it (easy to do when its over servers).

From a quitters perspective though, if you're getting blown out the water, why bother? Its more apparent in team games now where you either blow them out the water, or it happens to you. Next game, instead of wasting time on the current one. Can't say I blame them, even I do it if my team is getting blown away, or if I just don't want to play a particular gametype (team rifles, tombstone).

Thank you and the other dude for pointing these things out.

I think it's interesting how "old" people like us made video games what they are by being Atari and Mario freaks back in the day - yet now we're not allowed to play.

For some of us, a $300-500 game system would be nigh impossible for mommy and daddy to buy for us back then - so I guess it does make sense that a vast majority of people playing are little spoiled brats. It really explains a LOT.

In any case, it's not the first time I've had people wig b/c I'm older and play. I've thought about creating a Fogie Clan lol

Either way, I like the above post because its true. In a decade or two the current generation will be like us. I say just sit back and watch as the amusing process unfolds....while teabagging and slapping brats in the face over XBL.

Don't you always hate when there are thirty year olds playing on XBL. Its kinda creepy to hear in a message from someone who you think is twelve or at the highest eighteen say something about looking after kids and thet he won't be able to play for a month. YEah I got a message like that....i deleted him from my friends list.

Hey, there are no age restrictions on this game. I've been playing video games since before you were born. Why would I quit now that I can afford to buy my own $400 gaming system (do any of these 12 year olds really appreciate how much money that really is?), my own 54-inch high-def TV, and a kick-butt surround sound system? Now I can enjoy these games the way they were meant to be enjoyed. I certainly would like to see more of a lobby type system where we adults could get together in peace and not have to listen to children garbaging up the comms. Quitters annoy me, too. I just want to relax and have fun. I hate when an 8v8 game turns into 8v2 no matter which side I'm on. I just want to play a good game. I know emergencies arise, and that's not what we're talking about here. NCAA football has a good system that shows you how good a person's connection is and how many games they've finished... Take a look at putting something like that in Halo3, Bungie!

with all the big words set aside....

i think ive become........more "illeterate" by reading this post

take into the consideration that some people have OTHER THINGS TO DO THAT PLAY A VIDEO GAME!

some people quit because their mom wants them to take out the trash
some might have recieved a message from a friend and go to join their game via friendship
some might just not like the map

but depicting *sorry for big word* from other peoples points of views.........your not gonna stop it

and just because you use proper english
doesnt mean your a child molester (had to laugh at that one)

so to put it in easy little words that even my sister can comprehend

A) people may have legitimate excuses for quiting (listed above)
B) just because someone quits does not mean that you cant still have fun
you will most likely rank up, and the five more minutes to get into a better game
is not that horrible
C) asking bungie to punish quitters is completly ignorant
PEOPLE HAVE OTHER THINGS TO DO
YOU CANNOT CHANGE THAT

now that i have made my point, and people on this topic agree...
i strongly dislike quitting, and i do not attempt it myself
the best advice for the people that dont like playing with quitters
is
1) get a group of friends to go into a party with you
2) do not play matchmaking games if you are upset with quitting
affecting your rank
or
3) stop playing the game, if your going to post topics like this
asking for bungie to do something, just stop, its a game

heres an example that might concure from banning quitters:

Timmy!
What
Take out the trash..
Okay, after this game
No NOW!
no but i dont wanna quit and leave my team short!
TAKE OUT THE DAMN TRASH!!!
*kid quits*

would you have bungie ban this kid?
for doing as his mom asked him, against the will of the game

>>REMEMBER THIS IS A GAME YOUR TALKING ABOUT<<

Yeah, I suck at team hardcore. I'm no good at all those wierd gametypes. I want to play slayer, but can't because I can't get the maps. Besides, I'd like to make some friends who I can jump online with and have fun. I enjoy that more than winning, but that probably makes no sense to you.

I believe the whole thing boils down to the age thing, Old fogies like us were brought up by parents and school system to consider other peoples feelings and rights, today they seem to teach that no one can infringe on your rights, regardless of theirs. ( sorry for the 1 big word)
