sorry, i was at work. i tend to ignore all the meaningless posts because stopping spam is like stopping quitting. it is not going to happen, but the point of my earlier posts (addressed to spammers) was to try and find a way to make casual/chronic quitting less beneficial while not harming quitting with a reason.
to summarize what the main points that were discussed, well, here it goes:
people quit for 3 reasons:
-lag out
-important buisness
-simply dislike the current game
problem:
it doesnt matter how someone quits, the team that loses a player in normal circumstances will be at a huge disadvantage when they lose a player, especially in objective games, leaving the remaining teammates infuriated and making a game that was enjoyable, now not fun at all. those left on the team would like some preventative measures taken to help curb the quitting problem.
against preventive measures:
those against a change in the current system argue that it is a person's every right to quit, because they paid the money for the game, and argue that if something important comes up or if thier network takes a dump, why should they be punnished for it?
for preventive measures:
those for making changes to the current system in an attempt to put a halt to the quitting problem point out that the vast majority of people who quit do so purposely, and not because something important comes up, so those who did quit because they had to instead of wanting to will be hardly effected by the proposed countermeasures.
most popular solutions:
-quit %
a lifelong quit percentage stat will be kept with all the rest of your stats, either visible or not, to match a player up with similar quit percentage stats to keep those who quit frequently away from those who want a team that grinds it out to the end.
pro's
-separates quitters from not quitters
-those who quit for urgent reasons should still have a good percentage as long as they do not quit chronically
con's
-percentages become hard to change at high numbers
-fails to help those with network issues
-does not neccessarily deter quitting, it merely separates those who quit from those who dont. the thought is that people wont want to play with other quitters therefore they will want to keep thier percentages up. this claim is true for those who do not quit, but is unproven for those who quit frequently
wait period after a game is quit
after a person prematurely finishes a game, they will have to wait for a period of time before they can start another game. the actual wait period has been hotly debated, but a general consensus has been given to be until the game that they quit is finished. this idea has been implemented in Call of Duty 3, and seems to be generally successful.
pro's
-a system like this has already been used
-a deterrent is present in the form of a wait period for those who quit frequently
-those who quit for urgent reasons should not have problems with this because by the time they get back, the wait period should be lifted
con's
-fails to address those who have connection problems
-[any more help here would be appreciated]
