As we all know, Bungie released two brand new maps not to long ago. When I first thought of what Halo 1 maps I'd like to see appear in Halo two, Hang em High was among that list. The closer and closer it got to the debut of these new maps I began to think; Wouldn't Hang em High be to open for anyone’s own good?
Yes, it is. Not only that but so is the other new map, Desolation. Let's take a look at some scenarios currently happening on these new maps.
"Yo man, I'm BR PRO" --- Any kid smart enough to grab a BR and get up high with it on Desolation can rack up some easy, effortless kills. Not only does your opposition have nothing more than an SMG to spawn with but you have the high ground, and with good positioning, a long way before the enemy can reach you from behind. With a sharp eye and above par reaction time you can avoid getting killed by any noob who dares to try and rocket you. The only chance the other team has is to grab a BR and test their chance or to try and rush a 4-man assault again you. The likely-hood of 4 random people all coming together under one great cause in the realms of Halo 2 are slim to none. If you are so lucky as to get an assault going you'll also face the hardships of fighting off his teammates along with him providing support from above. A good player with the BR in hand will also rip any person a new one who even inches towards the OS respawns.
Aside from Default slayer on Desolation, you have BR starts. Seriously, WTF is with all the openness? This map is so open that I'm scared to respawn. The first team to gain map control wins!
"I feel the breeze and man it's nice" --- Tombstone, What a Joke. I got host on this map and went God mode on people. Hell, even without host on this map it's pretty easy to rack up kills if you get that lucky red base spawn. That's right, the lucky red base spawn. How ridiculous is it to spawn one team on a bare base and spawn the other team on a base that has a small network of hallways that also include a nice overshield in them? Not only does the red base team get a nice network of tunnels with an OS, they get tons of high ground compared to the blue base team. Being the blue base team and trying to run an assault against the red base team is nearly futile. Even with the numerous entry points into/onto the base it's stressful feat, especially with the limited amount of cover provided in-between bases. Through sweat, blood and numerous respawns you begin to question whether staying in this repetitive game of disaster only to lose is worth your time.
In conclusion: the maps provide little cover and on one of the maps you can spawn in with an almost guaranteed win. The one map(Desolation) isn’t so much of a deal as the other simply because the conditions of gaining an easy win are followed by a larger list of conditions.
This is just my opinion. Feel free to disagree but please do so in a mature manner!
