Subject: The lazy link epidemic.

Controlling fission events without incident since May, 2012.

Many Bungie.net members ignore, or simply don't know how to lazy link in a thread/PM. Why can't a bot be put to use when a member joins, sending them a message explaining how lazy links and text mark-up tags work? It seems simple enough, doesn't it?

I completely agree chef, It has become a bit frustrating, but in my opinion, they don't want to know how. I have sent private messages to various users, and still do, on how to make a lazy link. Yet, many disregard the message, while a very few accept it.

I personally don't consider it to be big deal, it only takes a couple extra seconds to copy and paste the URL into our address bar. I'm sure that we've all got important things to do over the course of a couple seconds, right?

If anything, it would just be easy if the HTML tags list was put back next to the text boxes. If new users can't take the time to figure out lazy links from that, then we're just wasting our time trying to tell them to do it.

They probably see you as "just" another member.I really think the majority of the problem is not knowing how to. As for the "just posting a URL is easier" Yeah, for the OP. For the rest of the people it is annoying as hell, especially if the link turns out to be spam.

Yeah, why was that list taken out in the first place? Lack of space or something? It needs to be brought back.

You say tomato; I say potato.

Why not make urls auto linked? Just copy-paste the url and it becomes a clickable link.

I logged into Bungie.net and all I got was this lame member rank.

Agree. Or they could make an url-button like in gmail (you mark the text you want to become a link, click the button, past the url and your'e done).

Maybe there could be some type of formatting toolbar to format one's posts, similar to how it's done with the posting of news articles. Just a suggestion.

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

In the age of information technology we all want to get there faster. Where there is doesn't matter, however, I don't think that a few extra seconds of copying and pasting is such a hindrance that it should be considered an archaic form of linking web documents. Say someone makes an error (or a conversion system) in the link, then what do you do? You could try to piece the link back together (could be tricky or impossible). That is why good ol' fashion manual copy/paste is good. If there is a problem with the "lazy link," then you could always reference to the manual link. If the manual link is messed up at least it is a bit easier to spot the problem rather than having to go through extra steps of getting the entire URL from a "lazy link."

I think that making the text markup thread more easily visible to users in all of the forums would help cut down on this issue. As of now, the only place that this is referenced is in the Septagon Stickies Sticky. No one looks in there.... ever. I wouldn't go so far as to say post it in all of the forums and sticky it because I don't think that is a good solution, although it is one. There has to be a way to handle the situation better. Whenever I see a thread, I just link them to the Text Markup Thread in hopes that it will let other people know about it as well.

I don't think it matters, but it seriously is like hell to have to do something you hate. Psychology is weird.

So I'd just rather have lazy links.

I personally think that clickable links should be removed from the forums entirely.
Why? Because there is no way to differentiate between named and normal links unless you turn your status bar on and hover your mouse over the link. I'm sure quite a few users don't know this, and get tricked into going places they don't want to.
I know I have.

My main problem with copy+pasting is I either have to open a new window, or leave the page I'm on.

I really prefer the convenience brought by a clickable link that opens its own window.

Or add a small peice of javascript to the "Submit" and "Preveiw" functions that parses links and adds link BB code onto the string.

They could add a word filter replacing [img] with [url] and <a href with [url].

Lazy people like me have a Firefox extension called Url Link which allows them go highlight the link and then open it in a new tab with the click of the mouse.

dude... img tag doesn't even work...
See, it just says image removed. Instead they could at least replace it with [url] tags..

Plus, URL Link extention ftw!
