I reinstalled it 2 times now and it will load, but then there will just be a black windowed screen on my desktop and teh music will be playing. The game is on because when I press escape I can hear the noise from it, but the screen is just black.

Its really annoying and I have to new patch and still nothing, any Ideas?

What video card is in the PC? Refer to this article.

What Video Cards are Supported by Halo CE

If your card is supported, be sure you have ansotropic filtering and Antialiasing off or set to application controled.then be sure you have the latests drivers installed or possibly regress to an earlier verion of the drivers.

It is for Halo Custom Edition, I only use the official game PC.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

Download that CE patch. It's the official one that Gearbox released afaik.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Do you have Anti-Aliasing on?

...
Anti-aliasing isn't supported in Halo, and you couldn't turn it on there anyway. Most nVidia cards have it on by default, and Halo Custom Edition doesn't work right with AA on.

Oh well that could most definatly be it.

It worked before I upgraded to vista, but going to vista could have reconfigured my graphics card.

Ill test some things.

I'm tall, white, and male. Therefore I am automatically the bad guy.

This is the strangest thing to ever happen to me while playing Halo.

I had the same problem but it was when I still had XP, there was something wrong with the anti-aliasing in the nVidia control panel. But I forgot what I did and I'm still getting used to Vista.

You are right you arent sure, there is no such OS as 97 and yes, vista supports it.

Knew what wouldn't work? Halo Custom Edition on Vista? It works just fine no problems at all. If you have an advanced video card you just have to tell the video drivers to set Anisotropic filtering and Anti-aliasing to off or application controlled. In most drivers they are set to on which Halo CE does not support.

If set to application controlled then those finctions will be off until the application turns them on, which Halo CE won't.

Halo PC and Halo CE work just fine with Vista.
