Yes, but capitalism in and of itself does not make up for the negative aspects of MLG. You compare it to major sports, but it's far different. Actual sports provide people with the opportunity to get an education through college scholarship. Universities like having students that play sports because they offer a different venue and a different type of student for the student population. When's the last time you heard of MLG giving out scholarships rather than cash prizes? They don't. They market people and they market the idea that if you sit behind your t.v. for 8 hours a day and play a video game non-stop you can get an MLG contract. When the chances of doing so is astronomical. However it provides people with the pipe-dream of trying to "go pro" (which I still can't type without laughing) at playing video games. I mean the majority of people who play NCAA sports who basically get paid (through scholarship) to play sports go on to use their education for the betterment of society. MLG doesn't. Until universities start giving away scholarships for people who play MLG, they will still not equal out the negative aspects of it.
And the thing is, with few exceptions (don't even try to use Walshy), the people that are in MLG dedicate the early part of their lives when they could be dedicating that to education. So they might get a couple hundred grand maybe a few years, but the likelihood of long-term economic returns from MLG are slim. As soon as you can't perform to their expectations or they prefer someone else, they'll drop you so fast it will make your head spin. And there people are with no education and nothing to show for the past year or 2 other than "video game" contracts. Trying to parlay that into an actual job is going to be rather difficult. I mean, when I went to college (both times) they had me list my ACT score and my GRE, but as far as I remember my Halo 2 rank was no where to be found on the application. That's because people don't care about video games, and they don't see them as a valid experience or justification of anything.
And don't even get me started on the attitude that is associated with those who follow the MLG mantra. It's been demonstrated on this website countless times, and it's ridiculous. That's not to say that any group doesn't have it's share of ass-clowns but MLG seems to permeate with them. Why do you think that countless thousands HATE MLG? I'm sorry to break this to you, but when is the last time you heard about people hating the PGA or the NBA? It's that type of negative relationship and reputation that leads most people to believe that MLG isn't such a positive thing. And that type of reputation doesn't just happen overnight.
I'm sorry, but when all things are considered, MLG is still more of a blight on society than a benefit. You can try to justify it with all the economics you want, but it still doesn't tip the scales in their favor.

It sounds like someone needs his pacifier. Did the MLG touch you in a bad place?
Seriously, why the hell are you so up the ass of the MLG? There are plenty of other things in the world for you to be angry about, if these guys want to pay kids to play video games, good for them.
Nice ad hominem...now as soon as you can talk like a grown-up, re-read that other guy's argument. The fact that MLG pays people or provides jobs for people is not the point. It's the people along the way that get screwed over. I mean if you are good at basketball, but just not enough to "go pro" at least you can go through college on a basketball scholarship and get a good education. MLG doesn't have that positive aspect. That was the point of that argument, apparently your feeble mind missed it.
He may have missed the point, but I sure as hell didnt. Let me ask you a question. Did the MLB give out scholarships in the mid to late 1800's when it was still in its infancy? What about the NFL or NBA? The answer is NO, it didnt. The reason for that is just because its a new sport in its infancy. As with all the others itll take a while for everyone to quit talking crap about how they dont think its a sport. After a while, when the sport has grown to a much larger scale then they may be able to offer scholarships or other benefits.
Im sure that 100 years ago, people watching a few guys hitting a ball around on a field developing a new game started to laugh at it until it finally caught on and grew into the MLB that we see today. You cant see the future and neither can I. MLG is just as likely to die out in a few years, but until then close your ass because youre talking out of it way too much.
