You go for the money? If your focused on the money more than the game, you have lost everything. Competitions arent just for the money. Some people will normally do it because they love the game. Explain something to me, Would you give up H2 for $100,000?

It takes a lot of nerves to compete on that level. I've been to a lot of local events and a few MLG's. You NEED to practise with a team for 4 to 6 hours a day for months to do anything at those events. My buddy unkowngod was tied for 4th in 7th round losers FFA at meadlowlands and probably made pro bracket 4v4. He practises a lot, and also trains his body. Your physical stamina has a direct effect on your energy and mental stamina. He used to go for runs and work out to prepare for events. It takes emence talent to be the best in the world at anything played as much as halo 2. So if it's in your best interests then you should take it seriously. I know what it would take to be pro, I've been on the brink but decided my time would be better spent doing other more productive things like getting into a good college. They don't take it to seriously because that's they're career choice. If you don't take your job seriously, then you're a half azzed slob. I'm gonna win the h2 challenge btw lol. <3 <3 <3

That is exactly my point

Good post Zach.

Yeah, at events, don't they basically play all day? I don't know about you guys, but that would drain me. Its like over-sleeping, not being terribly active for too long makes you groggy. I feel that if I took this game seriously, I could probably form a team that could do decent at lesser tournaments, like EGL, etc., but like Zach, I just feel my priorities are better spent elsewhere, as I am currently focusing a lot of my time on 1. Getting into Notre Dame, 2. Baseball, 3. Golf., 4 My job. Sure, I could maybe make small amount of money and prizes playing at local tourny's, lesser events, but I just decided not too.

For $100,000, yes. Obviously, there should be fun involved. i think most pros started playign this game because they loved it, realized they were hella good at it, and went "I'm going to see how I do in tournies." I think its way to hard to just pick something up only to go pro in it. Like your job, I think you have to have a passion for it, which will you with your determination to become one fo the best.

I don't get it? Wow. I'm pretty sure many people would give up a videogame, for $100,000.

Do you know the things $100,000 could do for you? Help get you through college, help you start a business, help pay off debts, buy a car, help pay for insurance. You would give up these things for a game that you would play for what, 5 years of your life? I think you don't get it. It being the thing called life.

it takes NO thinking power to play a video game... pull the right trigger to shoot, takes no thinking. now MAYBE a little for guitar hero you might accidentally hit da red button instead of da green button once in a while.

Try playing Jordan on Hard or Expert. Sleep makes a difference, you probably play on easy...

And tactics, aim, and playing style is off in Halo if you're awake for more than 10 hours.

It takes plenty of thinking power to play videogames. STFU if you don't know what you're talking about.

I agree. Video games are a fun pastime. Something I do on weekends, or if I have an hour or two to kill. But turning it into a competitive sport is... a bit much.

How come?

Bass fishing is supposed to a relaxing activity that you do on a sunny day...........but it has a competitive side to it in the form of competition for money.

Football is something you can play in the backyard with anyone. Yet we have prime time Monday Night Football and the Superbowl.

Baseball, soccer, .............anything that you can have fun doing can also be competitive. I don't see why "electronic sports" (aka video games) are any different.

I mean, sure, it's designed for fun, but so is any other sport played out there. But there comes a point where some people can say "You know, I'm getting pretty good at this. And I love it so much I'm willing to dedicate time and effort into improving my abilities and making money off of this."

Competitive gaming is becoming another sport. Granted, it's not a "Sport" sport, but it's still something competitive that people are getting paid for. There's nothing wrong with that at all.

Yeah it's true, your actions outside of gaming can determine how you perform during a game.

Like you said, if you try to play while sleepy you probably won't play well. And to be be honest, I do plenty of "warm up" games, because I try to get the rhythm going before actually trying.

Cracking knuckles, shaking my hands and feeling loose..........all of this helps me play better (personally.) And if you're playing a free for all, you want to go in feeling pumped, not sluggish. Well, if you want to win, that is.

It takes plenty of thinking power to play a video game. At least, in the modern world where gaming is evolving beyond stuff like "Pong" and "Pacman."

To say you don't need to think while playing is incorrect. Especially when you're playing against humans as opposed to computer bots on easy.

I think competitive gaming is great. I can't wait for a professional Sudoku league to start somewhere. Now that takes mad skillz.

You will never amount to anything on the pro circut unless both your mental and physical abilities are peaked. You will do better at halo 2 if you have more energy, and worse if you don't have enough energy. Unless you have your mind completley in the game, you will amount to NOTHING in terms of pro/ semi pro.
