I see absolutely nothing wrong with people treating it like a sport. Games can be turned into sports. People have this stupid notion that something must be athletic for it to be worthy of being a sport. That's completely false. For something to be a sport, it has to take skill. Whether that skill is athletic or not, it doesn't matter. That said, why shouldn't Halo 2 be considered a sport? It's a game, sure, but so is football, basketball, baseball, etc. All games are meant to be played both leisurely and competitively. It just depends on what you want.

could not have said it better.

There's nothing wrong with skill-based competition.

Yup. Which I why I'll blame my mediocre performance tonight on the fact that I needed sleep. And the fact that level 28's in Hardcore are really good now LOL

I think when there is 100,000 bucks on the line, you do whatever it takes to get to the top of your game...nuff said.

Hell I would do that for 500 dollars.

Video games are not sports or anything that has to do with athletics. Its an insult to true athletes to call playing Halo 2 a sport. Real athletes go through intense physical training and pain. Not to mention the mental toughness that has to go along with it. Dont tell me playing video games requires mental toughness either... the hardest it gets is: "Oh I lost this round.. ill just have to try better and practice!"

You might as well call watching TV a sport... Lets condone laziness and pamper society some more.

*sigh* I absolutely love it when people continually judge people without knowing how they do.

I've talked to a lot of people that went to Charlotte and they told me once you get on the big stage and there are people watching and you're facing good players, it's a different experience than sitting in your basement, alone, playing Halo 2.

How can you say Halo 2 doesn't take mental toughness just because you don't play competetively? I don't play competetively, but when I know I'm facing someone really good, if I say to myself "I'm not at his level, I'm going to lose" then surely..........I'm going to lose. But if you have confidence, you have a chance.

Just because it's a game doesn't mean people don't take it seriously. Because for them (the pros) it's more than a game, it's a competition. And they make it a competition because they choose to. If you want to sit back, relax, and play Halo 2 on a Friday night to wind down, then by all means please do. But these guys take it above and beyond- they're tring to make money off this game. What's so bad about that?

Lets condone laziness and pamper society some more.

Yeah so StrongSide is now getting paid $250,000 contract to be lazy and pampered? Hell, call me "lazy" and "pampered," I wouldn't care if I was making that kind of bank.

For the record, he worked hard for that and played every day to get better. It was his choice to put in that effort, and now he's making a quarter million doing something he loves to do. Oh wait, isn't getting paid a lot of money for something you work hard and love a benefit of a hard worker? Yeah.........................

I'm sorry to say you are not a very intelligent person. Trust me, when your at MLG its a whole different game. Its very cold in the venue. Try playing for 7 hours straight of intense, stressful games in a extremely cold environment. Where sweat is running down your arms and its really cold to the point were you almost start shivering. Theres like 20 people behind you and you cant here your teammates for -blam!- because its so loud there. Your heart is pumping constantly wondering if your gonna lose or advance. Flashes of whats gonna happen if you win or lose going through your head. All while your trying to play an FFA against 7 other people who are as good or better than you and all want to advance just as much as you.

Look at IceVayne, watch his VoD, you'll notice he plays like -blam!- in his last FFA in Charlotte that takes place at almost 1am. You know why? Because he had to get up at 8 in morning that day and play intense 4v4s all day, then had to play FFA for awhile. There is no way in hell that a person can play 10-15 of halo and not be mentally exhausted.

Bottom line is that since you clearly have no experience in the field of MLG and yet you talk like you do, your opinion(s) are highly flawed.

"They've got us surrounded...poor bastards"

"When I joined the corps, we didn't have any fancy schmancy tanks. We had sticks - two sticks, and a rock, for a whole platoon! And we had to share the rock!"

OP you confuse me...one second you say people should not treat videogames like a sport but then you say you are trying to become pro?

Are you guys friggen serious? OH NO... SWEAT!!? THEY SWEAT AT COMPETITIONS?! Try negotiating multi-million dollar shipping contracts... try doing brain surgery....try fighting fires in high rises... Mentally exhausting.. are you kidding? I'm assuming none of you have had REAL jobs outside of pizza hut and wal*mart. If they fail at the video game, nothing happens. You fail at contract negotiations, or even in a professional sports setting, you get FIRED. Dont tell me Nascar is not physically demanding either.. do you get breaks in NASCAR? nope... do you in halo tournaments? YES.

Do me a favor, get a real job, play a physically demanding sport at a high level of competition, then maybe your opinion of this crap would change. If you put halo players anywhere close to some boat of the mentally and physically demanding jobs out there, then you need to re-arrange your life priorities.

Normally I've seen alot of people who think H2 is more of a sport. ( I Havent against pro's ) But some say, they need alot of rest. Or They need something to eat before a big game?. Or a warm up game. Now, the warm up game said That he needed a warm up before he started a Team Hardcore Game, and he was winning by 10 kills. I just think that people get a little serious about playing a Videogame. I do believe that Pro Circuits are important to a whole bunch of people but, I think there going to far......... What do you think?

not talking -blam!- or anything but seriously, you just say this because your not good and dont go to mlgs, t2 and final boss have signed a contract and they are now millionaires..because of a -blam!- "stupid" video game. people make a killing playing video games of all types, so if ur not that into it or even if you are and arnt that good, just chill and have fun in anyway that you want. so just let the hardcores have fun playing as much or as little as they want playing the game, they arnt hurting anybody. and let the casual gamers just sit back and relax have a few beers and play a few games with there buddies on a friday night after a long day of work/school.

your a joke, you cant compare a video game to a job or sport. and you cant say -blam!- up in halo doenst have any repercussions because one mistake can and will lose you the tourniment very easily and you will lose X ammount of prize money and theres always a possiblilty your sponsor can drop you if your not pulling the expected weight in tournis. so dont try and talk a game that you play religously down just because other people are better than you and youve never experienced it.

I have a real job.

but have you ever been to an MLG event? benn in the running to make money? Been on the main stage, where first place means what is it now, 12,000, and a chance at a contract that could change your life, only if you prevent yourself from choking for THAT ONE game/series? Against the best players in the world?

Once again, you have never experienced what i'm talking about. How can you say its not mentally exhausting when you have never experienced it? Therefor, since you do not have knowledge of the other side of the argument, you can not make a post saying that you are right and I am wrong.

For the record, i'm 13 years old. I can not legally get a job at my age. Although I am working on getting a job in web design. I don't plan on working at Pizza Hut or Walmart.

Now halo may not be "physically demanding" but it has very high level of competition and is very mentally demanding.

Go to page 1... read the very first post AS WELL AS following posts. This whole THREAD is comparing H2 tournies to being a sport moron. Show me in my post where I talked Halo 2 down? please show me? quote me. What you described above could be associated with any type of tournament ever created. Crap, I played in poker tournaments in Vegas and lost "X prize money" and it was sooo "mentally demanding". And honestly, whats with all the little kids responding with 'you are just mad cuz they are better' comments? Think I care at all who is better than me? NO.

All Im saying is, these guys should not be compared to athletes... at all. Video gaming is not a Fing sport. Its an activity... just like playing poker.

Dont even respond if you are under 17 years of age, you lack the intellectual capacity to participate in an argument with any credibility.
