It has been going on for a couple weeks now (and verified by friends who tell me they're not seeing anything).
Has anyone experienced this before?
Anyone know of a fix?If you are using the original Xbox console, you are having a connection problem. Having a weak connection may cause messages to delay or fail to be sent to the other user, in this case your friend. A suggestion would be to reset your modem and/or router to prevent this issue. Sometimes, this may occur with voice messages primarily, so if you wish to communicate to a friend and it may be urgent, use the text feature instead.
If you are using the Xbox 360 console, you are just experiencing a small bug that occurs when you sign in after just signing out. This causes a block between the system and internet, in which your friends sometimes all appear off line for no reason and messages occur in an error and fail to be sent. To fix this just sign in and sign out, or restart your console. If you continue to have trouble sending messages to users, you may use Xbox.com to send messages over the internet and should therefore have no problems sending and receiving messages. However, you may not view Halo 2 / backward compatible game messages and voice messages.
