Ever since i got my xbox 360 ( a year ago) all i've been hearing from people is the 3 red light problem they are having and how they have to pay to fix it or if you're lucky enough it'll still be under warranty. THIS IS REDICULOUS! All an xbox 360 is, is a high powered computer designed specifically for gaming. COMPUTERS DONT BREAK DOWN LIKE THIS. Were they planning for everyone's 360 to break down to pay to get it replaced? could be possible. But i'm to the point where i could possibly see a lawsuit coming on here, people pay alot of money for the entertainment and as far as i know, every 360 will break down (with the 3 red lights) within 2 years. This is unnaceptable. ATLEAST MAKE A RECALL MICROSOFT.

But yeah, i'm starting to get into the same boat as everyone else with this situation. Last night after playing halo 2 i turned off my 360 and for some reason the 3 red lights were flashing, i turned the 360 on again and it's perfectly fine but the game is freezing a little. Soon i will be out of $140 because i bought a product that could not hold it's own power.

Hey it's out of warranty, that's the chance you take with everything you buy. The warranty eventually runs out and then you pay up the ass for repairs...example: vehicles. Plus I'd love to see microsoft's lawyers vs. some scrub a consumer hired. Everything is built to break at some point.

That's what i was thinking about too Modded, but then you realize when you bought your Nintendo, PS2, Xbox (regular) ect... none of those broke down like these 360's are. Especially the PS2, i've had that thing for so long now and it's still fine. I understand that they aren't the same systems but the most expensive game console you've ever boughten should not be this bad...

Good point. I just pray mine goes a while before breaking. Maybe more people need to invest in one of the cooling units. What's $20 on top of $400? Except it gets loud as hell. More powerful machines are putting off more heat and maybe people just don't know how to properly set it up. Or maybe microsoft just wants to bend me over.

But i thought heat wasn't the issue with the 3 red lights of death. The 2 red lights mean the 360 is overheating, and the 3 red lights is a hardware failure

they are probably made to break after a year or two, like ipods(they make the batteries so they stop working after about a year and you have to buy a new one), so you have to buy a new one.

It is a hardware failure due to microsoft using bad soldier that comes apart on the circiut boards when they get to warm... I havent got a 360 yet but trust me the day i get one it will have a fan put on it before i use it.......

I was at my cousin's playing his and we had to let the thing cool down. Dude, you could leave an N64 on for a month and not have issues. Consoles shouldn't be having this heating issue, it's completely bogus. I'll not buy Halo 3 just because of this hassle of the new system having issues. That's just dumb. A computer should not be higher maintenance than a dirtbike, for crying out loud. It doesn't even have smashing parts causing explosions inside it. Dumb.

Who ever said the ps2 didn't have these problems is wrong i went through 3 ps2's in my first year of buying one. I ended up buying a regular xbox when it first came out and it still ran fine when i traded it in on my 360 i've had my 360 for 4 months *crosses fingers* and it still runs ok. I never stand it up and i keep mine in a open area so it gets plenty of cool air. I know one person who bought a ps3 and it broke down the first month he had it, it's 2 months later and he's still waiting for sony to fix it or send him a new one 600 bucks and he cann't even play it. Now thats a bust.

Also, why are you posting this on bungie's message board? They did not make the 360. Goto xbox.com and complain there.

The problem is that the design of the Xbox 360 is fundamentally flawed. The X-Clamp cooling system causes an unhealthy flex on the board which can cause various issues with the console. On top of this, the cooling system is often insufficient. Therefore, the Xbox 360 has an absurdly high and completely unacceptable failure rate compared to other similar devices. Combine this with poorly serviced refurbished/repaired units that are sent as replacements, and you're looking at a lot of potential frustration for the end user.

I should know. I am on my 6th Xbox 360.

To the guy that asked why dont i post this on xbox.com, my answer is because they wouldn't allow it, i litterally copied and pasted this exact same post from my xbox.com post. Since it has to be approved by a moderator first, he obviously didn't approve of this post. IT has to do with halo 2 because i was playing it when my 360 started crapping out on me.

and to the guy that said "The last time i got the ring of fire i was so mad that i ripped a patch of my pubes out "
That's f-ing hilarious!
