You can start up a custom and have everyone on one team. What this does is eliminates aim assist (it's what helps you aim when your trying to shoot the enemy, kind of like a weak magnet) and lets YOU aim. The only problem is that people will boot you as a joke. If you can get people to be serious about it, it works great. This works for just about any weapons.

A good solution is to get one or two friends to come over and play on your Xbox. Then you're not getting booted, and you can still practice your sniping.

I find that I play most of the levels on Legendary, but don't shoot for completing the game; I shoot for enemies ;-). Also, I don't know if this is just because I'm weird or what, but I found that practicing sniping with a beam rifle significantly improved my sniping with a regular sniper rifle. I can't say why.

I don't think my sensitivity is incredibly high; 5 or 6, I think (it's around the same on Battlefront II, but that's a different game with different tactics).

If you find a sniping spot that has a sniper respawn/ammo, STAY there as long as possible without getting hit. Unless you're playing all snipers, make your secondary weapon something you can use in close quarters (in Multiplayer, SMG's, Plasma rifles, battle rifles are good.)

I would advise you to NOT train sniping in an Elite body while in campaign; I've found my tendency is to use active camo, and when you go into multiplayer and don't have it, it's suddenly like "Oh my ****. They can see me! Wait, what the he** is tha----" *headshot*.

On TS. Turf or Beaver Creek I've found that running one way to check behind you then going the opposite direction saves you from getting sniped in the behind.

Move from cover to cover, quickly. No stopping and zooming in the open.

Move left and right as well as crouch up and down while zoomed for longer periods. Just don't move into the open. Try and keep a teammate in sight. They often can point out the bad guys even if you can't see them yet.

Raise your sensitivity until you are just unconfortable, you'll get used ot it and it'll help over time.
Practice-practice-practice.

Never stand still, ever.
exactly and also jump a lot, lookout on levels that you can fall of of.
some people aren't going to like this but super jumping helps a lot. elevation is a key factor in sniping, just don't use it 1 v 1 or after you do it say you just owned the person. if you find a great spot stay there until you kill a few people (or get killed)ex the green room in tombstone was really good untill people started looking for it

I played Halo 3 beta which has much less auto-aim. I was already a good sniper, but when I came back I was a god.
Also if you have some friends that play Halo try setting up a LAN party and play 4 Team snipers on Foundation. Its intense and helps you learn to get those precise shots off as quickly as possible.

Edit: DON'T JUMP ALOT. A skilled Sniper can take you down easily as you sail through the air. Its much more effective to dart around on the ground, between cover or whatever.

A dumb mistake I used to make was to reload after every single shot I took. This was fine for me until I was around a level 25 Sniper and people got better at dodging so I couldn't always land headshots.

The Flood's resident metalhead.

When I first started out, I set up split screen and practiced sniping on the other character(with another controller). Then I went into team snipers and did A LOT of that(which helped my skills significantly). Now I just practice every now and then...

And go for headshots... I'd recommend a sensitivity of about 4... 3 is a little too slow, but 5 is a little too fast... but do whatever feels comfortable for you. But I wouldn't do a high sensitivity because it will mess up your aim a lot...(for me anyways)...

hmmm, it's been awhile since i've been on these forums...

...anyways. Everyone, STOP recommending look sensitivities. Notice how everyone's is different? It's just a preference.
I snipe on 2, and can probably out most people here. I know people who can out snipe me every time at 10.

Look sensitivity is all just a preference with what your most comfortable.

FK Panademic said it earlier. Quick Scope. Practice scoping in quick, and being able to hit the target.
I personally do most of my sniping in 5x as opposed to 10x (besides coag).

It just takes practice dude.

Play snipers only games and BR and sniper games. It really helps you get a feel for it. That also helps you get used to dodging BR fire while sniping since it is the most used weapon.

Sorry Oddley765 I didnt know that it took thought and creativity to do something as simple as puting a -blam!- little circle over somebodies head until it turns red then push a -blam!- button God forbid

If you simplify your whole sniping philosophy and strategies to just point, aim and shoot. Well you are just going to always try to snipe the other guy, Yes? No matter the situation?

For example -

Your three teammates just died and you have the snipe. All of the other team are still alive but do not know your position as yet. So you open fire and maybe take some opponents out, but guess what you just turn the sniper over to the other team. Now the other team probably has both snipers and your team is spawning with no counter weapons or long range eyes.

Your post is way too over-simplified if you ask me. I'd flee/stealth in that situation, so where in your brillant two point post does it allow for this situation?

Want more examples that you didn't cater for? Mate, I could do this for ever just to prove to you my logic is undeniable...haha had to put that in there.

But you get the picture, many other factors come into play when sniping. You may like the simple point and shoot, but to me that's just an in-experienced sniper.

A great point to make off your post mate. If you can even at mid to close range, snipe at 5x scope. There is simply more magnetism when scoped in rather than no-scoping.

BR is my favourite weapon to tackle a sniper with. Unless you're at mid to long range I'd suggest switching from your sniper when getting BR'd.

More often than not a decent BR opponent will put you & your sniper down, from close to mid range.

Very true. I sometimes hate having these "point and shoot" guys on my team. Especially in objective gametypes, you have to think about what killing that person will accomplish. Sometimes its better to to let someone live then kill them, you need to think about the situation.

If I had a Rocket Launcher...

Shut up and get behind me... Sir!

The cable. I'm going to cut it.

Awesomeness would ensue.

Given the insane amount of Aim-Assist, all that can be said is practice.

Yep, like in COAG objective games. You snipe an opponent they respawn and defend their base. That's a common one. So many snipers on COAG just go for individual kills, even in objective games.

"Take my advice. Rookie. You ever fall for a woman?

...Make sure she's got balls."

-~-~:*BEST SNIPE TIPS*:~-~-
-try to use higher sensitivity because you can move the reticule faster when enemies are running.
-if your not the best shot, use beam rifle so you can shoot twice at there body really fast, human snipe a little better for headshot but i still prefer the beamrifle.
-use cover and dont stay still always move in circle zigzags and jump when moving and be sure to have cover when enemies fire back and dont stay in open.
-use common sense the enemy isn't going to spawn near you so look at the other side of map.
-always look at favorable places like highground weapon spawns etc. for enemies.
-no scope as last resort when your getting shot at and you cant zoom and when you cant aim fast enough when zoomed so no scope.
-practice, practice, and more practice is the key to a good sniper.
-when confronted face-to-face with an enemy and you have a sniper shoot really fast at the body and melee (only when your sneezing distance away from them).
-dont listen to noob tips, watch out for better snipers, and rather not kill and not die the kill and die.
-theres no such thing as a -blam!- sniper.
-practice sniping your noob friends =).

Inexperience? thats hardly the case...if it was a *snipers* only match up,then you'd spawn with a rifle to defend yourself. If it was slayer, every map that has a sniper is battle rifle spawn(minus a few, beaver creek for example, you have a rocket launcher,2 battle rifle locations, and plenty of duals,it's not hard to "drop" the sniper if you have lost it) So in any case you're theory of sniper loss and gettin spawn camped is crushed.Point and shoot is hardly inexperience, dont believe me send Purplemurda2 a friend request and we'll see you're big book of sniper theories versus my reaction time,i put money you cant keep up.

God im horrible at qoutes lol

No-Scoping is terrible. I was bored one time, so I set up me at Sniper Spawn on lockout, and another profile at B3. I zoomed in right at their head, and without moving my aim, zoomed out. The reticule was right at their head, but it took 4 shots to hit them. Bottom line is no-scoping isn't very accurate. Always try to quick scope (unless you have to no-scope).

But having a higher sensitivity makes it harder to hit all head shots with other weapons such as the BR. I often have people accuse me of quad-shotting when I use the BR because almost every shot I make hits the head. Even pros who only button combo have trouble with me because of my accuracy. Sensitivity 5

If failure is not an option, then why is there so much of it?

Grab a SRS99C-S2 AM or a #Particle Beam Rifle and have some frag grenades. Throw the grenade in the air while running, stop, and try to shoot the grenade before it hits the ground. It definitely ups your sniper skill if you get good at that.
