Alright, i love a viral campaign as much as the next man, but this one... just bores me.

While i'm loving the level of community interaction on this, its just not right. So far, all we've had is short posts, that are essentially just spamming the forums. If you access the halo 3 forum now, all you see is stickies, in fact, you can almost fill an entire screen with the stickies there. Just about every thread that gets posted gets hit by spammers seconds after it goes up. It just seems to lack all the quality of the previous campaigns. We're seeing no real innovative content. Its just so so cryptic questions posted in threads that get spammed, then locked. So my real question is, are we going to see any more from this?

ILB was brilliant, it was new, no one had seen anything like it before. It expanded on the backstory, it advertised the game, it made people go "Wow!!". Most importantly, its quality was stupendous. What we've seen so far has more holes than the PGA tour, and looks and feels like its someone arsing about on their lunch hour. I longed for something like the fan-made Enkidu Terminals, which was so in depth you couldn't see the bottom, but apparantly, all we're getting is 2-line forum posts and alot of mindless spam. Is this actually going to go anywhere, or is it just going to be "Old Skool Lore for Dummies"?

☼► The Select Few Who Will Leave Their Guts on the Battle-field... and jump feet first into hell!!! ◄☼

If you want to be a part of one of the greatest and most active communities in the seventh column, come here. You will thank me later.

It's an attempt to keep us busy, and maybe it is rather disorganized and slightly pointless. We have some kind of presence lurking on our forums and making posts all over the place. It's not easy to follow, and isn't as neat as ILB. Not as much can be made out from it. To me, it looks like AdjutantReflex is just teasing us, more than anything else.

Even if this viral campaign doesn't carry as much of a point, it has served its purpose. It is keeping us, for the most part, interested. Foman created a group called Compound Intelligence based on AdjutantReflex which picked up 1500 members in a week (wow). Looking at the halo 3 forum, the last thread on the page was replied to less than two minutes ago. That's certainly saying a bit, because right now (10:30 AM) usually isn't even a very active time of day for the forums. At the same time, the smatter of stickies filling up half the page (11 of them) also effects this. Half of the topics around there are on AdjutantReflex. Compound Intelligence has even organized a group of people with set questions who interrogate AdjutantReflex whenever he posts a thread.

There really haven't been many conclusions drawn from AR, but he has kept everyone interested.

Go Chiefs

The interesting thing about viral campaigns, especially one like this (if that's what it is), is that you're marketing to people that are already more than likely buying your product anyway. Granted it doesn't cost anything so there's only upside. Who is now going to buy H3 because of AR? Unless something mind blowing happens it's just entertainment for those of us already on board.

  • 06.19.2007 11:03 AM PDT

I ignore that stuff anyways.

  • 06.19.2007 11:17 AM PDT

I find it ironic that Bungie rails against spammers and AR right now has five stickies in the Halo 3 forum, every one of them full of jibberish and spam. I understand that this is another ILB type publicity stunt, but you can't recreate the magic of ILB, and AR comes off as a lame attempt at just that.

I'm pretty sure thats what it is intended to be.

Something for the more hardcore fans to busy themselves with until release date.

I've been watching, but I'm indifferent so far. We'll see where this takes us.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

At first, it was awesome. Learning about SOTA, www.halo3.com/comic, the ip address, etc. But now, almost nothing is happening, so it's getting quite dull.

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

Patience, only two days till the clock hits zero. Then it gets really interesting.

I'm sure it will end up somewhere elmicker, just give it time to see where it goes.

As for me, I've never been into ARGs, so I'm not going to complain.

"The brightest light casts the darkest shadow."

Yeah, I'll bet Iris will really get going once the clock hits zero.

Don't send me group invites.

I wasn't a part of b.net during ILB, but I knew about it and read the forums and kept up with it.

This time, I'm finding it really hard to keep up with everything that is going on. To me it feels really unorganized.

You know what? I'm a tad upset by how events have conspired against this ARG. The content has been every bit as fun as ILB, though there seems to be a conscious design to have less of it... but yet it seems to be faltering. Was it Eurogamer who got that really buzz-killing article up detailing who's writing it and what's going on? How awful was that to read for those of us following it? Of course we know a real live Human is behind the character... but it's no fun to be told exactly who it is!

I hope the author can get the game's initial momentum back.

I'm going to have to agree with elm, it seems like a waste of time IMO. If it is in fact going anywhere, I've completely lost track due to its uninteresting effect on me. AR and his little posse of fan boys are not drawing me in. Sorry to be blunt about it, I'm sure I'm pissing off alot of hardcore fans of this compound intelligence, but in all honesty I find it extremely uninteresting.

I quit CI because of the suck and fail emanating from the vast majority of the 1.5k+ members.
Shoulda made it invitation-only, Foman.
Through an alternate account to avoid spam, too.

As for the Alternate 'Reality' Game itself, it has been poorly thought out, poorly implemented, and just plain done wrong.
There is no way to salvage it, no way to replace it, no way to do anything other say 'Sorry, we screwed up. Maybe next time.'

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

Over the years we've had some strange accounts pop up here on B.net, but this, well, it's gone too far....

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

ILB was full of spammers as much, if not more than this one, I would know I made half the stupid posts. The difference is that they were more naive back then as opposed to the somewhat malicious spam which people sometimes encounter this time around.

You say tomato; I say potato.

I'm thinking we're on the tip of the iceberg with this ARG.

If they are trying to keep us busy until H3, then yes, I agree.
