What happened to the community spotlight?

I don't know. KP used to do those, right? Well.. KP is no longer with Bungie and Halo 3 is rapidly approaching, I think Bungie has more important things to do than Community Spotlights.

That is a good point. There is also a group that used to do them.

It would be really nice if we could find some people who could do this again. I really enjoyed reading about the people of the community, our brethern if you will, because it gave a unique perspective into the people who we interact with are.

If you want to be a part of one of the greatest and most active communities in the seventh column, come here. You will thank me later.

Maybe some of the members could put their hands to use with some of this stuff? We don't need a 7th column council 2.0, but it wouldn't be bad to maybe have some more user-submitted articles on the community homepage. At the moment, the only unique thing about the community homepage is the group spotlight. Otherwise, it just copies the News from the main homepage and takes up space.

  • 06.20.2007 11:17 AM PDT

What if we got a bunch of people together and did our own Community Spotlights? (Is that even allowed?)

Well maybe we could organize a group to help pick out people who are really extraordinary in the community and we could do an interview with them. Then we could submit that to the front-page news and see if it gets posted. That would be really cool and I think it would give a sense of more community involvement from the members.

  • 06.20.2007 11:19 AM PDT

I think that's what we should do. Because right now, "Community Involvment" is pretty much at a stand-still because Bungie's busy with Halo 3. I know there's a group The Guide that does their own spotlights, but I'm not sure whether or not it's kept within the group or submitted to the news for approval.

That's kind of like the seventh column council, isn't it? We don't need a special group of people that do the work themselves, because that is just an invitation for more elitism. It's what caused so many problems with the last council.

Then we could submit that to the front-page news and see if it gets posted. That would be really cool and I think it would give a sense of more community involvement from the members.
A special community news/article section would be great. I love that idea, similar to a more public extension of The Bathroom Reader and The Guide. It would be nice to see Sketch around accepting some of these articles, to make sure that we don't have any clowns trying to spam that special news section.

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

I loved it when KP was the interviewer for previous community spotlights.

They were so funny to read, loved the humour.

You must also recognize that these last few months before Halo 3s release, Bungie is going to be extremely busy. I suggest let them work, use all the time that's available to them so the outcome of Halo 3 is even better :)

That or we really wouldn't need to post them to the news...just make a nice thread here in the Septagon? I remember a while back when one of the moderators did some weekly updates here. I miss those updates and the fan-driven projects. I also miss The Bathroom Reader...now I just have to look at the comics on the toilet :(

I would love to see some community enrichment here in The Septagon, and write some stuff myself. I just started doing a bit of work for The Guide, and it would be great if more could be done to bring back the old community instead of just sitting here and watching it fade.

^^ What he said. lol

To me, there seems to be a lot less community involvement between the members. I know most of it is probably in the chapters/groups and whatnot, but I think as a whole, we should get most of the community involved and not keep it all "hidden away" in a group. Perhaps use a group to keep things organized and decide things, but it should at least be submitted to the news and maybe it will get approved. I would love if we could get something going.

Well what should we do? If the community is going to do this it needs to be organized so it won't look like spam.

  • 06.20.2007 11:39 AM PDT

I think we should just get into a group for now, to figure out what our plan of action is and then once we get ourselves together we can unleash our awesomeness into the Community.

I knew I shouldn't have waited this long to become a member.

Great ideas. I too would like more community involvement. Its not just a "would like," its more of a "extreamly passionate" for community involvement. For a group creation, that too would be a great idea. The group would let members of the community who really want a piece of the action, to join up and get their ideas out there. Great idea RedPhoenix.

Who will create the group and what should it be called?

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

I agree. Maybe we could make a Bathroom Reader 2.0? I loved reading the first one. It had everything, Group spotlights, fan art, community news, it was great! If we do figure out anything, I'm willing to help with whatever.

No, we don't submit them to the b.net page for approval. The interviews are only intra-group.

The interviews are fun, though, and seem to get a good reaction from the Guide's members. Haven't had time to do one in awhile, but it would be fun to see somebody interviewing ninjas, Bungie staff, and Community members on a regular basis and having those interviews available from the Community page or the b.net front page. The Guide only has a hundred-and-some-odd members, so I know that our interviews are not reaching as many people as they potentially could.

I think that it's fun to read the interviews of people who work on other games, Halo 3, or other fansites, but it sure would be nice to know more about people who I actually interact with here on b.net.

Bungie is very busy with Halo 3 so you can expect delays in the website. Halo 3 needs to be perfect so we gamers live the final moments of the Halo franchise.

=[ It makes me sad to think about the end of the halo trilogy. I guess I will just have to look foreword to other bungie games in the future, but Halo will be sorely missed....*waaaaaaa*

I have way too much time on my hands,
I have also been told by my group that i do a great job at organising all the activities, weekly song, forum, reasorces, etc.

I will answer the call for a community spotlight,
i will create a thread for it, then look for a person,
i will have to choose people who have done things a few weeks or months ago, iwe have to make up for lost time,
everyone should get a shot at being notice by the community,
there acts should not go un-noticed just because there was no-one was doing the spotlight.
