At first I thought my comp was too good too (it disappeared 4 times before I got it), but it really took the same precise timing as in the xbox version. I found it was easier to bring the banshee down yourself than use the "lure one all the way down and board it" technique. All you have to do is get the sputnik skull first. It's the skull that makes melees and explosions much stronger.
Step by Step Tutorial
Start Quarantine Zone on Legendary (you don't even have to kill any flood), turn around, walk through the tunnel behind you, go straight, walk along the edge of a pit and then grab the skull at the end, pause, save and quit. Then start up Metropolis on Easy, kill your two marines, and destroy everything on the bridge and at the entrance of the tunnel (except the banshees) with your tank. There should be about 6 banshees flying around taking potshots at you that don't do very much damage. Get past the pushy banshee barrier and one at a time slowly walk backwards as they each shoot straight at you, board them one at a time and get out and kill the pilots. Once they're all done, park a banshee in front of your tank across the front (so the SIDE of the banshee is touching the FRONT of the tank), and (using a 360 controller so you have adjustable speed that a keyboard doesn't) press the left stick about halfway forward, adjusting with small movements... it is surprisingly easy to keep the banshee centered on your tank's nose while pushing it if you're going the right speed even when you're turning to get around stuff. Push it all the way to the first roadblock with the tank. Using the sputnik skull power of more powerful melees, push the banshee up the ramp. You'll eventually develop a good technique of meleeing... hitting the side of the nose and then one side of the tail in between spins of the banshee works well to get good distance with each hit. Just be sure to take about a 3-4 second break every two or so hits, otherwise you'll have a dead banshee and you'll either have to tank-push another one down or hope you recently got a checkpoint.
BTW, you should all know by now that getting inside the banshee before the next loading screen means you blow up. Anyway, melee the banshee up the first ramp. Using a plasma rifle and waiting 3 seconds between shots, shoot both wings off. This next part is the hardest, and you have to do it twice. Using a combination of melees and flipping it with X while upside down, get the banshee in a position that it fits through the passageway at the top of the ramp. It is a narrow ramp, so hitting it on one side from BELOW on the side of the ramp can sometimes flip it high and over the roadblock in one hit (thanks to sputnik). After it's over, clear the entire next section of enemies, but don't venture too far into the doorway at the end. Run back and slowly melee the banshee up through the tunnel section to the quarter-pipe thing on your right adjacent to the next roadblock. You WON'T be able to hit it up this steep of an incline. Go back again to the last roadblock and grab the 2 marine's warthog and take it down the tunnel. Push the banshee over the lip with the warthog. If your wheels are spinning out and the banshee isn't going anywhere, ease off the gas and pump the throttle on and off slowly, and back off the second the banshee is over so you don't knock it off by accident. This next roadblock's passageway is the same size as the last one, about a foot too small to fit a righted banshee through. Using the same idea as last time, get the banshee on an angle and knock it through.
The passageway to the loading screen is now on your right. Melee the banshee inside, past the circular ridge on the floor, and up a steep but short ramp. THIS IS THE MOST LIKELY PLACE TO BLOW YOUR BANSHEE UP WITH MELEES. Because if you don't hit it quick enough to get it over, it will start drifting back down to the bottom, your first instinct is to mash the B button to get it over the lip. Just be patient and hit it in a pattern on the left and then the right to inch it up the incline. If the banshee is doing 180s back and forth because of your melee pattern, you're doing it the best way, just be careful that you don't get pinned between a spinning wing and one of the side walls of the hallway- instant death. Once up to the pipe, make sure the banshee is right side up and nose in the direction you're facing. Instead of hitting it on the left and right sides, start hitting it directly on the tail frets. It's slow, but easier to stay directly behind it so you can get in.
Another recommendation is to SWITCH YOUR BUTTON SETTINGS TO BOXER. This will allow you to keep your thumb on the walk stick, your finger on the left trigger for melee, freeing up your other thumb to rest on the X button instead of on B for melees so you can press it as fast as possible when the time comes. After making sure you're directly facing the back of the banshee, take your thumb off the looking stick so you can keep it on the X button. Stay stationary, meleeing it once with the trigger and then inching forward only the distance of your single melee to see if the loading screen comes up. Repeat. The only other advice I can give is keep your finger on X and KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE TOP-LEFT CORNER OF THE SCREEN and press X as soon as you see something flash there. You're inside a banshee sized tunnel, so don't worry about looking forward to see if you're going straight- the "Loading..." is the important thing to watch. You'll have about a half second window to get inside the vehicle no matter what your power of hardware. Good luck.
