OK, I just got a wide screen T.V. and when I play split screen the bars are now vertical. How do I make it Horizontal?

When you got your widescreen tv and hooked it up to your box, it automatically set it to widescreen. You need to go into display settings and change it from widescreen to full screen on either the dashboard for the 360, or the menu on regular xbox. Not a hard problem to fix

doing that won't make you have a horizontal fisheye kind of effect, you will obviosuly just have the two sides cut off to make you have a correct apsect ratio again.
IE, regular ratio tv, horizontal split screen.

what's the point of widescreen with the game if you dont want the vertical split?

Just because some of the HUD like the crosshair and radar are oval doesn't mean the game wasn't designed for widescreen. The game can recognize if widescreen is enabled and split the screen vertically and the FOV is increased as well to take full advantage of the increased viewing space making round objects in the game actually round. If widescreen wasn't intended for Halo 2 the whole image would stretch when you switch it on. I think the partial stretching of the HUD is a bug.
