I looked through old threads, but couldnt find an answer.
I recently decided to "get into" Halo 2. Ironically, I have had the game since Holiday '04, but only played the game sporadically, predominantly the single player. Alot of my friends play it a lot, so now I'm playing it online quite a bit. I just have a few questions.
- I downloaded three of the map packs when I purchased my 360 in December of last year, and recently downloaded the new 9000 block one. Im noticing that when I join a game via matchmaking, I only have been playing on the same five or six same maps, not ever playing on the other 15 or so the game has. Also, when I try to make a custom game, it tells me several times that it has problems loading the map. It cant be my disc, as it is immaculate. Is something wrong?Besides the fact that your disk may be damaged or have an unnoticeable scratch, there are also a few other various reasons certain maps may fail to load. If this concerns the old maps, and considering that you may have just received the 1.5 update when you signed into Xbox Live, you may have a cache problem. Because your system creates a copy of the maps you play and the more times you play each specific map the Xbox 360 console recognizes it much easier.
Since the update cleared your cache, the system may have trouble creating new copies of those maps until you play them a few times. A suggestion would be to load the maps off line, because then the Xbox 360 console performs a so called "force load" meaning that it will load the map regardless unless the disk is severely damaged. Trying to load the map online may fail because the system recognizes that other players may not be able to join if they cannot load the map. If the problem persists I would go to your hard drive and delete the update and re download it. However , as a warning all of your campaign game saves, downloaded maps, updates, player profiles, and custom game variants will be removed if you perform this action.
If the problem is with the new maps, well I suggest deleting them off of your hard drive and attempting to re download all 11 maps available. If the download for the Blastacular Map Pack fails then it is a credit card issue and I suggest waiting until the maps become free to download. After you do that there should really be no other problems unless there is in fact an issue with your Xbox 360 console or hard drive, in which it is internal and you must get it repaired.

-When it comes to multiplayer games, does aiming for the chest and head yield a faster kill? What weapons perform headshots?Yes, using a Battle Rifle can kill a player with four shots to the head. Using so called power weapons such as the Sniper Rifle, Beam Rifle, Rocket Launcher, Shotgun, and some other weapons have the potential to kill an opponent with one shot.

-Any techniques for offensive/defensive maneuvering? Every time I end up in someones crosshairs, 90% of the time I end up dead, but not vice versa.Yes, using the jump and crouch feature is very effective and most likely decreases the accuarcy of your opponent giving you the upper hand. Using melee attacks, grenades, and weapon combinations will give you an advantage so you do not end up in that situation. Team work is also a key asset.

-Is there more to the Covenant Sword 1-Hit Kill other than lining up the crosshairs? Dosent seem as easy as I'm told it is, as sometimes I charge right at someone for a few seconds and it wont turn red, even when properly aimed.Distance is key, knowing your damage radius is important and switching to the sword at the last second sometimes helps to, also keeping the sword hidden. Charging an opponent is usually a downfall, as it is more of a defensive weapon and is mostly used for camping in a designated area. The sword is more accurate to perform a one hit kill if you jump at the last second and then lunge toward your opponent.

-Are the only means of ranking up via team games? I prefer FFA, but Rumble Pit is unranked.
Pardon the newbishness. Thanks.Currently, there is a temporary playlist, H2 Challenge, which is a ranked Rumble Pit playlist, and is also a Xbox Live tournament where you can register and compete to win one of five Xbox 360 Elite consoles. If you are interested in finding out more information you can visit Halo 2's official website here. To register your gamertag into the Xbox Live H2 Challenge, you may go here.
