Yes we do, when he picked up the energy sword, he dumped the needler.

He had the SMG and the battle rifle to start. He picked up the needler with his smg, making that three weapons. He dropped both the needler and smg, for the sword; then switched to the battle rifle. You KNOW he had the battle rifle to start because when the elite was killed he dropped a battle rifle which then he picked up the ammo for when he walked over it.

OK everyone hate to sound like an ass but this is what we know for sure as it's from Bungie....

Q How does dual wielding work?

A
Currently, to dual wield, you simply approach a second weapon that is lying on the ground. You'll see the standard "press X to swap weapons" message appear in your HUD. However, if it's a one handed weapon, you will also see "Press and hold 'Y' to dual wield". If you do that, you will pick up the gun in your left hand. R-trigger fires the right weapon, L-trigger the left. You can't melee attack or throw grenades while dual wielding. You can stop dual wielding at any time by pressing melee attack (discards extra weapon) or by pressing Y to switch to your secondary weapon.

OK... so what can we derive from this boys and girls. "You can stop duel wielding at any time by pressing Y to switch to your secondary weapon."
a) You can definately hold three weapons at a time then.
b) It seems you maintain the duel wield as one weapon slot otherwise it would say "(discards extra weapon)" as it does about melee attacking with duel wield.

Thank you. The FAQs surprisingly do answer the FAQs try reading them people.

no offense to anybody but are people not wearing their perscription glasses or something?

tanoj (not even gonna try and spell the name) had it right.

what happened in the demonstration was that when he walked over the elites corpse he picked up ammo for his battle rifle. since he couldnt have picked it up with switching his weapon he must have already had it on him. two frags were picked up as well.

what wasnt automatically picked up was the plasma sword. he picked it up, and consequently, he had to drop both of the weapons he was dual wielding.

so one weapon takes up one of your slots. when its a single handed weapon it can be shared with another single handed weapon. what i havent seen but what tanoj said was the switching of weapons automatically discards the left handed weapon as well as trying to melee. when you pick up a weapon while dual wielding you drop both weapons because the new weapon takes up a slot.

i dont know about anything else though so if im lacking in knowledge someone fill me in.

I'd prefer to swap between 3, personally. Two was good, because it forces you to make some hard choices in what weapons to carry. But, as far as I'm concerned, 3 would be the ultimate. I don't want to carry any more than three, either.

theres not very many guns in the game. if they give you three you might have one for most if not all situations. where would the fun be if you didnt have to think your way through some fights using limited types of ammunition?
