Who cares about pros? Wow, they suck at life and play video games. Horrible...

Yeah I know. Some of them are ONLY making six figures...

You wish you could make 250K a year to play Halo.

I would rather not waste the rest of my life to play video games.

Last time I checked, making a lot of money is not wasting the rest of your life. It's a job.

Brilliant posting right here

This thread sure has brought out the worst in the forums.

We've got MLG fans on one side of a line and those who aren't so fond of MLG on the other, and they're both throwing glass.

Look, we've all got our opinions, that's great, that's the point of this forum, to express our opinions.

Not facts that we invent.
Not to be so extreme as to assume that someone is bad at, or doesn't deserve to play Halo.
And certainly not to insult someone because of their opinion.

By all means, go on loving MLG and pros, go on seeing it as a needless accessory, go on standing in the middle and stoping the glass; but we're all capable of being mature individuals, so let's do just that.

Stop being asses, treat each other with respect. You are talking to another human, think of that. If you were face to face with everyone here, you sure as hell wouldn't be behaving in such a way.

just listen to yourself when you say that though... how do you not laugh when you say that?

Well, unlike you, some people are capable of USING their brains, for thinking and whatnot. If you had that option, you would understand how stupid and narrow-minded you sound.

I can understand people wanting to play games professionally for $250,000 a year but doesn't it bother you that you would be contributing absolutely nothing to society whatsoever? I don't care how much I got paid to sit around and play video games, I wouldn't do it knowing I'm just pimple on society's ass.

What makes a pro gamer any more of a pimple than anyone else in society, say, an actor, or a a professional sports player? Your logic is completely flawed, if you want to argue, try thinking first.

$hit man, thats EXACTLY what im talking about. EXACTLY. they dont understand though... its not good for your health either.

Yeah, I agree. How could you get a sense of accomplishment from playing a video game? How could you go your entire 'career' without a sense of accomplishment? How could you go your entire 'career' knowing that you really haven't done anything? I sure as hell couldn't.

well thats the thing though... these people do feel like they accomplish something by playing video games, and i would sure as hell like the money, but it REALLY feels good if you know you earned your money. Trust me, it feels good knowing youve done something productive for the society in order to earn money. a sense of a job well done, the best feeling ever. cant imagine getting that in video games though... and for the people who are millionares off of playing video games, good for you. and if you have another job aside from video games then thats GREAT. theres a few out there i bet... but playing that much video games is harmful to your health and bottom line is its just not good. 2,3 maybe 4 hours is MORE than enough video game time a day.

You're making moronic assumptions. Just because someone is a pro gamer their health is automatically bad? Yea, there are going to be those slobs who do nothing, but those people are scattered throughout society, so trying to tell me only gamers are fat and slovenly just isn't true. I play an ass-ton of video games, and I'm considering trying to go pro. I also lift weights, run and swim on a daily basis. Me being a gamer does not preclude me from being healthy, so stop using this as an argument. It just makes you look stupid.

Why does it matter?

Keeps a thread clean, your opinions together, and it's generally more respected. A triple post is never neseccary when an edit button is there. It does matter, perhaps not the biggest issue, but there's no doubt that it helps a forum function in a smoother fashion. This is off topic however. Of course, the last few pages have been off topic as well.

It looked like a hot topic, I didn't count on them getting lumped together like that.

EDIT: Also, it would have been one pretty massive post, and the intent of my individual arguments might have been lost in what seemed like one uber-agenda.

So hey, lets stop using the "250k" per year BS.. since, from what I have read on these forums, its more like 83k per year for 3 years. Not only that, less than 10 people in the entire world have earned that money. So besides tournaments (you can earn money in any kind of tournament, doesnt matter what it is), 10 people get paid to be a pro MLG player. Not only that, Im sure that those 10 people do not consider playing halo 2 a job that they can do for their lives or for an extended period of time... which negates anyones arguments of comparing it to:

Professional sports -
Bands
Singers
Artists
Performers
Golf and bass fishing

Honestly, Id compare Halo 2 to playing in card tournaments. It takes the same dexterity(being able to sit in the same place for 13-18 hours a day), skill, and mental capacity.... but to call it work or a job is wrong. Go up to an MLG player who makes money and ask them if they consider it work. If they say yes, in any way or form, than it is an insult to the working man. Its a priviledge to get these contracts. They dont depend on MLG to be there as a career and support their families forever.

From the other thread navillus.
Posted by: FKxPandemic

Sketto and Navillus are right, in that MLG players are not athletes. I'm going to go ahead, and say that IMO, there are different types of sports. I've said in the other thread, that I feel sport is just competition. I feel MLG is a different kind of sport than football or golf. I'll go ahead and label those as athletic sports. While there are things like fishing and gaming. I'll go ahead and label those as Recreational sports. They are most oftne hobbies, that change when taken to a more competitve level. Sketto and Navillus, would you be fine with breaking down sport, into these two different groups? Because obviously they require very different skills, but skills and just as much practice none the less.

you have about the same odds of going pro gamer as a you do at winning the lottery? even if you play 12 hours a day there is nothing that will guarantee you go pro, it does take some natural given talent, some people will never be good no matter how much they play, but I think the 250 000$ per year arguement is very childish and unrealistic, there aren't many pros in the world that make more than 5 digits and those are still few and far between. Last years MLG winning team only got 100000 and that was split between 4 people. And they don't travel the world winning tournaments on a weekly basis all year, it takes months of training prior to each tournament. Lastly halo players make much less than pc tournament gamers just because of the sheer mass of computer gamers and worldwide pc gaming tournaments.

1. Just exactly, how many Pros are there?

Top 16 in either FFA or 4v4 for Halo 2 is pro (for that game.)

However, only the top 3 in each get paid.

Actually they changed it to Top 8 thats gets money. 8th gets $250, witch isn't that much you split it with 3 teammates and a coach. Atleast once you get top 16 MLG gives you $1,000 in travel money. Witch usually covers 3/4ths of your teams plane tickets if you book them at the right time.

VcS Gun Shot is his actual account at the moment, there are alot of fb strongsides so it might not have been him, u never no

No. There is a poser with the account VCS Gun Shot, with the letter o. His actual account has a zero instead.

And Gun Shot isn't pro.

Wrong, his actualy account is spelt with a lowercase "o", and he made pro bracket at Meadowlands.

His account is VcS GuN ShoT. The VcS GuN Sh0t is the poser

proof from Gun shot... its a random post from him on H3F (look in his sig it will say): http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j188/MrD3ADS3XY/gunshot.jpg

He barely made pro bracket....

Wow, I was just going off of complete memory from his H3F sig, and got it backwards. Yeah, I heard he made pro bracket ONCE, it doesn't make him pro. If he can consistently do it, then sure. Until then, as I have, I'll see Gunshot as one of the most overrated players in H2, mainly because of H3F and the amount of kids who suck his dick there.

I was there when he did it. My friend AHerdOfBunnies almost knocked him out off FFA in 4th round. But ya you gotta to consistently place high in pro bracket before your really considered semi-pro-pro

Neither do professional sports players. While lots of sports players make into the millions, most of them will invest in stocks or start companies outside their sport because they know that their talents wont last forever. These kids wont always be able to play video games and someday, they will have to retire from their sport. BTW who gives a -blam!- if its an insult to the working man? I, for one am happy for them if they can go out and do something they love and get paid lots of money to do it. Good for them.

This thread is not about holding hands and singing happy songs for MLG players that make money. Also, what is with the circular logic in these forums?? "who gives a -blam!- if its an insult to the working man" - uh... the working man gives a -blam!-?

Isn't it the dream of a person to get paid lots of money to do nothing or something you like? If it is then these MLG pros are quite succesful at that.

I think this discussion should end now.

  • 06.25.2007 11:19 AM PDT

Damn you roor!

Okay if you are reading this than you are most likely a big fan of halo. You would LOVE IT if you could get paid to play, all of you. Jealousy is the only reason you could possible say otherwise. MLG has fans and people watch VOD and follow the league. That is how they contribute to society, just like any sports player out there. Someone said they have the same amount of dexterity as a card player??? Are you kidding me? They excel in the league because they have the fastest fingers and brains and the smarts to apply it at a very fast rate.
