ok... why do you go off making assumptions that im jealous? if someone gets paid -blam!- milions of dollars for playing video games good for them, theyve got it made money-wise. but in my OPINION id much rather take a healthy, balanced life with all the real wonders of life. LIKE I SAID, i cant control what other people do and thats fine, and it doesnt bother me that they get a rediculous amount of money, but it CONCERNS me that they may not be living as healthy of a life as planned because ive read SO many cases in the newspaper about kinds of diseases due to lack of activity (and yes i know the MLG players might have a social life) but for those who dont, they might be in for a rough time but its just a guess...

When you put it that way (in a less flaming tone,) then I can see where you're coming from.

Your previous posts made it seem like you were just jealous of them, I'm not gonna lie. That post you just made puts your views in more clear light. I apologize for mistaking your posts.

MLG Pros aren't famous period...
Nobody outside of gaming would know who they are...whereas many people who hate baseball would know Cal Ripken. People who dislike dancing would know about Michael Jackson's moonwalk. Etc. etc.

yeah, i dont see why people label MLG gamers as no-life garbage kids who will amount to nothing, i mean give them a break, they arent going to do it their whole lives, but its giving them a very good platform to start off from, walshy was even able to start his own business bc of MLG, all the pros are becoming successful so i would just leave em alone

No. There is a poser with the account VCS Gun Shot, with the letter o. His actual account has a zero instead.

And Gun Shot isn't pro.

Wrong, his actualy account is spelt with a lowercase "o", and he made pro bracket at Meadowlands.

His account is VcS GuN ShoT. The VcS GuN Sh0t is the poser

proof from Gun shot... its a random post from him on H3F (look in his sig it will say): http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j188/MrD3ADS3XY/gunshot.jpg

He barely made pro bracket....

Wow, I was just going off of complete memory from his H3F sig, and got it backwards. Yeah, I heard he made pro bracket ONCE, it doesn't make him pro. If he can consistently do it, then sure. Until then, as I have, I'll see Gunshot as one of the most overrated players in H2, mainly because of H3F and the amount of kids who suck his dick there.

I can understand people wanting to play games professionally for $250,000 a year but doesn't it bother you that you would be contributing absolutely nothing to society whatsoever? I don't care how much I got paid to sit around and play video games, I wouldn't do it knowing I'm just pimple on society's ass.

$hit man, thats EXACTLY what im talking about. EXACTLY. they dont understand though... its not good for your health either.

Yeah, I agree. How could you get a sense of accomplishment from playing a video game? How could you go your entire 'career' without a sense of accomplishment? How could you go your entire 'career' knowing that you really haven't done anything? I sure as hell couldn't.

Ugg, and most of these guys do? Most of them are teenagers, teenagers making 83 thousand. Sorry, thats wuite the accomplishment. A lot of those guys are in college, or still HS, getting degrees for when they are DONE with video games. Walshy has his own clothing line, I'm pretty sure he's more accomplished than most people could dream, and he's how old? Gaming won't be most of these guys careers for their whole lives.

My last thread: Why Reach Sucks

<3 Foman

It's a very rewarding career. If you knew you were one of the best in the world at something played by millions, that wouldnt seem like an accomplishment to you? Think of how rewarding it is for some kid to get his 70 in WoW. Except the pros are getting media attention and a lot of money. The sport is constantly growing, it's only going to get bigger. More and more people are playing video games, what makes you think there isn't live prime time coverage down the road?

  • 06.24.2007 10:15 AM PDT

Okay so at first when I saw this thread, I was not going to reply... Ive also spent the last 48 hours drinking and playing in volleyball tournaments, so my mind is a little tired. Anyway -
Both sides have some valid points, and both sides have some random idiots who keep posting nonsense.

For all the MLG supporters, can you guys answer a few questions for me? I see a lot of "they make $250,000 / year to play" statements.. so:

1. Just exactly, how many Pros are there?
2. What is the median income level of a pro due to MLG competitions?
3. do a BUNCH of guys make $250,000? or is that 1 player being used as an example for every topic like this?
4. How many MLG pros consider playing Halo 2 a 'job' ? Remember, Im not saying 'hard work', im asking specifically if they consider it a full time job. Meaning its the only thing they do year round.

Please also don't compare it to Actors, singers, bands, artists etc. There are hundreds of thousands of these people that are small time and barely make ends meet through their performances/work. To some of them, its the only skill that they have in life. I know for a fact that nobody playing halo 2 has to go through what these people go through.

Looking forward to your responses.

1. Just exactly, how many Pros are there?

Top 16 in either FFA or 4v4 for Halo 2 is pro (for that game.)

However, only the top 3 in each get paid.

2. What is the median income level of a pro due to MLG competitions?

Depends on the placing at the tournament, and the "status" of the player in question. Some players are on contract. Others show up hoping to either make pro bracket, have fun, or compete within pro bracket for a higher placing.

3. do a BUNCH of guys make $250,000? or is that 1 player being used as an example for every topic like this?

On Final Boss, each player has a $250,000 contract for 3 years (83,000 per year). On top of that, they're making money for winning each tournament, and any FFA placings they happen to make.

On Carbon, it's the same deal. However, on top of the $250,000 contract, they won the $100,000 grand prize at last years championships.

Then there's Str8 Rippon. But their team has disbanded. I think Fonzi still has the quarter million dollar contract, and Tsquared as well. But I don't know how much longer they'll stay on that considering their situations.

4. How many MLG pros consider playing Halo 2 a 'job' ? Remember, Im not saying 'hard work', im asking specifically if they consider it a full time job. Meaning its the only thing they do year round..

Right now, I'd say Final Boss and Carbon are the two considering it a full time job. Seeing as how they're the top two teams, and frequently win either 1st or 2nd, they're getting paid the big money.

Everyone else (except for maybe a couple teams vying for third place) is in it for the fun of going to the tournament, or the chance to make pro bracket and earn some cash. But there aren't that many who consider this a job rather than a...."hobby" one might say.

I may be slightly off on some parts, but I think (hope) that's mostly right.

1. I really don't know. But not only pros make money, theer are still smei-pros, and I'd imagine amatuers, that have sponsorships, and make money off of playing.
2. There is basically no way to find this info, as most of the players earnings aren't publicized etc.
3. At least 9 players have 250,000 contracts. The two top teams, carbon and FB each have them, and so does Tsquared. I don't know of any others, but there could be more, and probably wil be more, especially with teams like 5K rising in populaity, and being pretty marketable.
4. Most of them probably treat it as a job, but I also know many of them are either still in school, or like Walshy, are using their popularity gained from MLG to make a career.

Thing is, MLG is extermely young, it hasn't been around too long. It didn't even get big until Halo2. its just a matter of time before it reaches the Starcraft level, and probably even bigger. Its already had a TV show on USA, its very probable that a few years down the road, as it gets even more popular, that bigger networks like Fox, ESPN, etc, take on MLG. I'm just wondering, if it gets to that level, which it probably will, would you be more liekly to consider it a sport?

A lot of people have been deeming it "Electronic Sport" at the moment.

However, if it continues to get more coverage and gets on major networks (as you said), who knows.......maybe they'll bump it up to "Sport" status...

Actually none of those jobs have anything similar to gaming's mentality...
Singing is actually really hard to do, even for the famous singers. Same with acting. You also have to stand before large crowds on a lit stage, which would terrify most people.

Umm....That sounds remarkably similiar to a MLG event. lol

Ok... Whoisstrongside is not the real strongside... Strongside is top 16 for FFA in MLG, and since you beat him it was obviously not him. Also in the MLGPro.com section of H3F, Visit this thread:http://halo3forum.com/showthread.php?t=142200, strongside's gamertag is just strongside... Also FB Walshy, is not Walshy's account, his account is yhslaw. FB Walshy was his old account which was hacked a LONG time ago. I played the kid a couple days in THC and he was terrible. Based on these points, I really doubt you play with any pros at all. Also VcS Gunsh0t is the POSER, as mentioned before, and Gunshot mentioned in his sig that his real gamertag is Vcs Gunshot with an O. So you don't play with pros or semi-pro and you are just like the rest of us. Also what is clan? If you don't reply I'll just assume that you really aren't in Ogre2's clan either...
