Heres what I found when I was reading the Weekley Bungie Update.

Jaime also showed off the largely complete HUD which has moved everything around dramatically, but should still be recognizable to Halo folks. Obviously adding dual wielding makes this challenging, but the new HUD handily shows off the ammo/charge left in a gun, and more importantly, it tells you what your reserve, or third weapon is. THIRD WEAPON!!!? WHATCHOO TALKIN ABOUT FRANKIE? Well, if you're holding a weapon in one hand, and you have another "holstered" you can dual-wield a third. That means the reserve weapon simply stays put when you pick up the dual-wield weapon. Effectively that lets you have three weapons at one time.

Dave has the new HUD in and looking mighty fine. It's a change from what people are used to, but there's good reason for the change and we're confident it's the right decision. In fact, Jaime just got back from a usability test and is standing at my desk telling me just that. Oh, and of course we have the new multiplayer scoreboard in as part of the HUD! Woohoo! Dave and I are also working on cleaning up a whole slew of UI in time for the milestone. Mat Noguchi is just now checking in the magic code that makes players on Xbox Live look like more than just a name, I'm psyched! Our Xbox Live UI is going to make people jump with joy, and I don't think I'm exaggerating. Once you try it you'll never go back. Anyway, way too much to do, currently 38 bugs on my plate for this milestone. Gotta get back to work!"

Just wanted to make sure you guys all seen this.

You NEED a health bar, the MJOLNIR has a HUD that shows health (read Fall of Reach), so obviously there will be a health bar. The shields/health system was FINE, Bungie don't wanna mess this up.

Why would they take away the health bar?

Opa ages said they took it away to speed up gameplay. If pepole dont no how much health they wont try to get health and stuff. They want moe action

If you look at the Opa Ages videos you notice a little flash by the shield bar when you start taking hits. Bungie has done a great job slimming down on the hud and replacing messages with symbols I believe that's what there doing with the health bar.

In the opa ages impressions they say if you didn't look you would have never noticed a diffrence and it didn't effect how they player the game. I ike the idea it adds a edge to the gameplay, on ledgendary you get the same feel if you go 2 seconds without your shields you would almost certainly die it will force players to be patient I like the change

I believe whether or not to have a health bar is still in debate.

Here are two aspects of gameplay.

Med packs:Med packs are always the fakest aspect of games, no one ever walks over to a med pack and patches them selves up instantaneousely.

New armour. The new MJOLNIR is supposed to have a much stronger shield, it could be that the game will be more realistic in that you can die very easily, the shields save your ass though.

Also, they may have found that if your shield is really your only defense you tend to be a little more careful or play differently, which could, make the game more enjoyable.

I think they are more likley to take out health packs than the health bar.

Just my opinion

They could maybe be doing a goldneye style for the health bar where it shows your health when your hit.

I think they should have a biosigns monitor, instead of health bars.

I really dont get this. Without health, the shield is useless, it becomes your health. I dont care what anyone says, about this speeding up the game, or making it more action-packed, its crap. Absolute crap. I dont care that I havent played the game, it would be crap. All of a sudden all these idiots are comming out of the woodwork exclaiming all the things wrong with health, it seems to me like your trying to justify the health bar's removal to yourselves, rather than voicing genuine gripes with the health bar, which have never been voiced before, ever, by anyone.

ITS FUC.KING STUPID.

So far, nothing has actually said they'll be even touching the health bar, aside from visually changing it. And as for getting rid of it completely, thats like a bad chinese whisper thats snowballed out of control. All they've said, is that the health bar/ sheild system has undergone a change similar to the 'seperation of church and state' in proportion. Where does that say that health and health packs will be gone?

IF YOU READ THE LINK THAT SOMEONE POSTED IT SAID THAT YOUR SHIELD AUTOMATICALLY RECHARGES WHEN IT'S GONE. MEANING YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT TO RECHARGE UP OR TO GET MORE HEALTH.

IN SHORT, THE SHIELD RECHARGES RIGHT OFF THE BAT ONCE IT IS GONE SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HEALTH.

i dont get why they haveta change it. Halo was fine with the way it was. shields go out, the little blue bars start going down. i never noticed someone running away after i noticed their shield being disabled. and i never did it.no health is stupid. who cares if the shield instantly recharges? its not like you could be in an intense battle, and your shields will be fast enough to recharge fully. when your up agaisnt two SMGs, your shields better be constantly recharging oh id say at the speed of light times 2?

YOU WON'T NOTICE IF YOUR NOT LOOKING FOR IT WHEN YOU PLAY THE GAME AS THE GUY SAID. IT'S JUST A NEW HUD WITH A NEW TYPE OF HEALTH ENERGY BAR.

BIG DEAL.

HALO 2 WILL STILL WHOOP A$$.

listen, when im fighting 3-4 elites on legendary, i like health. health is my best friend. without health, id perish. my shields are instantly gone, leaving me with health. in about 1 more second im down to the yellow.now, lets stop and think. my shields leave instantly. 3 more shots and im dead in halo 2. i think ill be dieing sorta quick from now on.

and when your running and your missing one bar of health, you dont pick up a healthpack. you wait till your red. adds stradegy to the game. take that away, the stratgey goes with ya.

and take caps lock off. its annoying

wE OBVIOUSLY CAN'T AGREE SO LETS ATLEAST AGREE ON THIS...

WE WILL SEE FOR OUR SELVES WHEN HALO 2 IS RELEASED. EITHER WAY IT WILL BE A GREAT GAME.

DON'T GET YOUR HOPES DOWN OVER THIS "TINY" PORTION OF THE ENTIRE GAME BUD. THERE WILL BE SO MUCH MORE TO THIS GAME THAN WHAT MEETS THE EYE.

Dude, the capitols just make your look like a dic.

Um, this is not just an arbitary change to the HUD. My experience with Halo is that the sheild is there to guard your health, not act as your health. It changes fundamental things about the game itself. One of the things that set Halo apart from other FPSs was its focus on taking cover. Those who used cover, and conservatively approached every situation, lost less health and came out on top. Rather than using cover just to avoid getting injured, you used it strategically, by using cover you could come out of basically any situation unscathed. Which I thought was really cool.

This system seems like Bungie will try and force action on you, and change the style of play that existed in Halo 1. In Legendary this would be dire, and in any other difficulty it would just be annoying.

I mean im sure it will work, and I'll get used to it, but it seems like Bungie would be changing something simply because they can, not because it needed changing. FIne, whatever, it doens't matter anyway.

Im playing it co-op on heroic the first time around. And thats not the point.

JUST BECAUSE I USE CAPS DOES NOT MEANIT IS SUPPOSE TO RECOGNIZE ANYTHING, AND PLUS I'M NOT TRYING TO BE DISRESPECTFULL HERE. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HALO 2'S EXPECTATIONS. WHY THE DIC? I'M NOT BEING RUDE, WE ARE JUST HAVING A CIVILIZED ARGUEMENT.

AND IF YOU SAY IT WILL BE HARDER WITH THIS NEW ENERGY BAR THAN IT LOOKS LIKE YOU WILL BE USING MORE COVER.
