If any of you haven't heard
People have managed to get H2V to work on XP, and many of the problems don't happen is XP. The mouse lag is gone, you can cap frames, you can get playable framerates(30 fps) with a Geforce 6800 on high setting at 1280x1024.
So what do think?
EDIT: I changed the title feel better?

I didn't say it didn't work on xp, but do you know how many threads with the words "Halo 2 (vista) on XP!!!!!!!" spammed the forum? It had just stopped and now we have started it again, now because some newbies have seen those words on the front page they will make more threads dealing with, let's guess, Halo 2 on Xp. And I have seen that thread before, half of their proof actually had Vista gui patterns and config's in it, the rest seem pretty genuine though, but ask yourself this. What is one good reason to spend money on this work when it will soon be outdated and dead in a years or so? Or go even deeper and ask, what else could I be doing with that money that could be useful?

This wasn't posted in the bungie boards so I posted it hear, oh and it does work and Live works too, ask Lightning. Also, so what? now many people won't need to buy a new graphics card and Vista(the program is free). Games never get outdated, they can always be played. The Vista GUI is Windows
Blinds. Don't freaking flame me for something not on THESE boards yet, I mean come on its a freaking thread title, what can I name it that says what its about without using Halo 2, Vista, or XP in the freaking name. If your tired of those threads don't post in them.

Live works on XP.

There are other ways, namely finding a certain patched MF.dll, placing THAT one inside the H2V install folder, and the loader's mf.dll into the windows/system32 folder, and away you go.

Live does work.

Reason the installer looks lame = Install IE7. It uses PNG transparency.

It's only a matter of time before it's patched back to Vista only.

I think everyone in the thread you linked are forgetting it's Games for Windows - Live. Microsoft controls the horizontal and the vertical. They deliver the patches. And just like they banhammer folks who mod their consoles, you can bet your arse they'll start employing the banhammer for people hacking Games for Windows - Live games to get them working on unsupported platforms. Then they'll patch the EXEs to render the XP mod moot.

Bungie lied to us. But its okay. This, however, will not be forgiven. They told us Vista would better the experience. We can run it on XP *AND* the game freaking runs better on it. You get rid of the mouse lag AND the fps problems on XP. So why did Bungie lie to us...Why did they say vista would be better?

MONEY.

I guess they realised this lie and then went to delete halo 2 vista section. har har bungie. You care SO much for the PC community. So -blam!- ing much.

Define "you".

If you're attempting to claim Bungie has made this patch, you are completely mistaken. This is a patch by the "underground" - the same folks who make things like no CD cracks.

See my post above. Microsoft will patch this through Live. They will start banning people who hack Live for Windows games just like they ban people who mod their consoles. It's not a matter of if, but a matter of when. And then all these folks playing on XP will be out 50 bucks for the game and, if they're stupid enough to be using their XBL Gold account, they'll find themselves banned from both platforms.

Show me where Bungie has endorsed the game to be cracked.
Show me where Bungie has told people to go ahead and violate the EULA of their publisher, Microsoft Game Studios.

They can't patch it on XP, because on XP we control if we go on LIVE. You can't patch this, it would mean recoding a game, and a game that is selling poorly, teh only; thing this will do is boost sales of H2V. The .dll are part of vista and H2V needs them, all the application does is add these onto XP. The only thing Microsoft could do to stop this is to make a second version of the disc, then it would just be another month before the .dll needed are found and implemented again. Don't blame Bungie, blame Microsoft, Bungie didn't do the port so they had no control.

You take my words out of context, kid.

Bungie endorsed this port of a game. They endorsed Windows Vista, and they most certainly endorsed having this game only for Vista.

The fact of the matter is, is that people have found a way to play the game under Windows XP, a fact that Bungie has stated (IIRC) would only run under Vista.

Don't be daft. You have to connect to Live to play multiplayer.

How hard do you think it is to patch two DLL files?

All Microsoft has to do is patch the DLLs so they won't work on XP under any circumstances. An extended version check linked to directX would work since XP will never see DX10. Vista users would see an update that is transparent, but next time anyone on XP tries to get into Live to play multiplayer the patch will relegate the XP mod completely moot. If no one on XP ever goes on live after such a patch by Microsoft, they could continue to play campaign only.

First off, don't call me kid unless you want to be called old fart because if I'm a kid to you, that makes you my mom's age. :P

Secondly, I didn't take your words out of context because you didn't put them in any context. All you wrote was "Maybe so, but they [Bungie] endorsed it." There's no context there. In the context of the thread you are saying Bungie endorsed someone cracking the game port so it can run on a system other than what it was designed to play on.

Remember Xbox connect?
Virtual Lan works fine.
Microsoft could patch XP, but why would they patch an OS that is be manipulated by very few people. They can't patch Halo 2 VIsta on the disc unless they change the way the disc install is set up. People can easily fake hardware and software ID's, people do that all the time using emulated dvd drives. A person could easily take the software ID of Vista and put it into XP and it would work. People did this with Halo PC to get regular camoflague with nVidia graphics cards. It will always be a fight between hackers and the software programmers. Microsoft will only be able to patch certain things in the game.

The great thing about the program is you can now make H2V maps with out owning Vista, so many more maps will be made and you can't patch a map making. The DirectX check wouldn't work on a game that uses DirectX 9.c as Xp uses it too. A patch for using the game on XP will be much easier/faster to make then a patch to stop it.

He is saying that Bungie endorsed the game being for Vista only, not it being cracked.

As long as you have a legitimate CD-Key for Halo 2, all the features should work.

But if you don't, you can still play SP.

Good to see you again Master Kim, I missed some parts of the Maw, some not so much, mostly all the stuff about H2V problems.

Funny how things travel across the internet so fast. I've known for a few days, well - pretty much the first day of its release. it's been like 2-3 or more days and already it's all over the internet. I'm with Vista Ultimate atm and don't plan to go back to XP anytime soon, unless Vista destroys another one of my hdd's. Vista has given me very good system performance and I just love the way its set out.

Changing the topic a little. It seems (it's a rumor I read on a random page when I was bored) that Microsoft may delay it's service pack for Vista. I think it was meant to be released at the end of this year.

Back to topic. I haven't played H2V on XP yet, but I have heard that some of the bug's and glitches have been removed. Some claim its still there, some claim they get better performance and others claim the performance is slightly worse than that of Vista. Anyone here who have played it on XP like to tell us there experience on the game with XP?

However, I think eventually Windows Vista will be the better operating system for gaming in due time. It's not like XP is going to be better forever, right? Just wait, you'll see improvements and better performance in Vista.
