I know Achronos is probably the only one to answer this and who knows if he will but I was wondering if we will ever see an update to the forums in the manner that adds functionality buttons to posts. Many other forums have a group of buttons at the top or bottom of a post for bold, italic, quote, link(named and unnamed), underline, list, attachment, etc.. It's not a big deal at all but it would be nice.

Sorry if the terminology is poor. I am not a webmaster. Hence why I would like to see the buttons.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

The correct term is a WYSIWYG text box, like we have for the news.

And the answer is that it may happen, but not soon. I'd rather people focus on the content of their messages and not worry so much about presentation. We really need to add back the legend explaining what tags do what though... that will likely appear before any WYSIWYG control.

Thanks. That would be great. I was only asking because I can never remember how to do named links so I have to open another page and switch back and forth to create them. Also, when you want to respond to several parts of a post, or different posts in can get a little tedious. I'm not trying to be a complainer I was just wondering. I'll be here either way.

Really? Honestly Achronos, I thought you were against those. But then again, maybe I'm putting someone of my own attributes in to how I know you. I just think the WYSIWYG text box is a bit.....ugly. Yes, they do do wonders for some, but then if you put the legend back in, what would the point really be?

Sorry for going a small bit off-topic.

I think the point is just to make things easier. It's not a big deal at all.

True, very true. I just think it is ugly and takes up space....:\

I also think that the Legend should be enough though, yes you still have to type and stuff, but it gets the job done with little fuss. But hey, that's just me.

No, I'm against stupid things in a forum like smilies and blinking text and font control and color control.

But making the UI easier to use is not something I'm against - that'd be silly.

True, that is/would be rather silly, I guess I'm just assuming things again...

The legend would definitely suffice. It would just be a little easier and quicker the other way. No worries either way.

I agree with the guy above me, a legend would be a good idea.

Or you could just take a look at this thread

You say tomato; I say potato.

This took me about 30 minutes. The web team must have a lot on their plates if this is finding its way to the bottom of the list.

Thanks but we don't need a thread. This is already on the website. Look right here.

You'd be surprised how many people are still confused by the simplicity of it. Back in the day (before the New New Hawtness [the current b.net]) when there used to be a legend on the side, there were still threads asking for an explanation on what to do as if it weren't simple enough.

That's because it was shifted clear to one side, a bit out of view. I didn't even see it till a year after I was here...

Only if you were running in a small window or a low resolution. Always displayed fine for me.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about how they saw the legend and still had no idea what to do.

Those sort of features drive me mad. They make the forums look like "Disneyland threw-up."
