I went to the main community web page and clicked on a link to one of the supposedly more active chapters on Bungie. The last news post made on the chapter home page was from a year and a half ago, and it was basically an announcement of how the clan was dead. Yeah, REAL active there.

Exactly what are the criteria a chapter needs to end up in the spotlight section? Because whatever those criteria are, there not the right ones. If it's based on number of members, that definitely has to change. A lot of chapters have to deal with major issues of inactivity among their members. A good group is a group that mostly consists of active members. Group size is irrelevant.

Um yeah. Getting the site ready for H3 is probably a higher priority for the web team than enhancing their group selection algorithm.

Oh yeah BTW...... WHERES'S MY GIGGITY COOKIE!!!

Sorry Bungie as much as I like you guys he's right. Sometimes the groups chosen aren't really active. I think it might be because of the size of the groups why they're there though. But I think it should be because of activity why they're there. I think they should have at least 5 members though.

One of the constraints of the algorithm is that the largest groups are never picked no matter how active they are. It only picks mid-sized groups with semi to high activity and some of the group's don't even really meet that qualification.

News updates on the front page dont indicate a groups activity level.

If it werent for one of the members from my main group winning Bungies emblem design contest, the latest news would be well over a year old.

The problem is that it doesn't take into account activity.

No, that's not correct.

The system calculates how active a group is and ranks them all by activity once a day. There are many things factored into it, although it currently is heavily weighted to the membership size (probably incorrectly so, but there were a limited number of metrics available to use at the time).

But, from there, it takes the top 250 "most active groups", and randomly picks a few of them to be the ones shown in the spotlight. It does this because if it only ever showed the top 10 or so, they'd hardly ever change, and that really isn't an effective way to get people to see what is out there.

So, GH, that's why MBT is hardly ever on there - even though it usually ranks pretty high, it is subject to a dice roll first, and won't always be picked.

I have seen large groups on there, but it is interesting that the most active groups often are not on there. I think it is a good thing so many groups are on there, but I know that quite a few of the groups on there are inactive.

Thanks for the additional information Achronos.

MBT is pretty darn unlucky...I've never seen it on the spotlight once and I check every day....

Hehe, ironic. That's my friends group.

Edit: Hmmm, his group died right around the time he joined mine. Hehe
