To all those playing H2v, how does it compare to Halo2? I can read reviews all day and night but I want some actual imput.
And another question, is it worth upgrading to Vista for this game?

It's the same as the xbox version, but with a map editor.

Definitely not worth upgrade to Vista for this game.

Captain Obvious strikes again!

I'm just busting your chops, mate. :)

Slaying noobs since 2007.

I would certainly hope that you wouldn't make an entire OS change based on your want for Halo 2 Vista.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Well people can make their own decisions corrrect?

Yeah I own Vista and H2V and no it isn't worth upgrading specifically for the game alone, my opinion.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Absolutly, they do it all the time, even when someone tells them it's not a good idea. Why? Arrogance, ignorance (if they haven't been told differently), and that think they are smarter than the other person. I'm not telling anyone to do anything, just stating maybe if the only reason you are making a switch to an operating system is for only one game, then prehaps it may be better to go back and revise or rethink it.

  • 06.26.2007 7:55 PM PDT

What it is.

Halo 2 Vista isn't worth the upgrade, but if you already have Vista, it's not a bad idea to pick the game up. The main reason i got H2V was the dedicated servers, because i got sick of all of the cheating in H2X. The graphics are great(if you have a good graphics card and monitor, i..e. widescreen). Achievements are a little plus as well, although they're not that challenging.

I'm not actually doing it. I was just checking to see if it was alot better than Halo2 xbox. But I don't really appreciate being called ignorant on a subject just because I want first hand opinions.

Im with you there. Despite all these people whining, H2V actually has some noticable upgrades.

1: MUCH better sound.
2: Improved AI
3: Legendary is a lot easier.
4: All semiautomatic weapons shoot a lot faster, mainly because your using a mouse.
5: Little to no auto-aim.
6: You jump a lot higher.
7: Peoples faces no longer look like clay in cutscenes.
8: Just me, but I've heard some new marine dialogue.
9: Marines make a lot more headshots.
10: Hey, its Halo2 on a computer!

I agree, not worth upgrading just for this game, but if you already have it and an above average computer, then you should go pick it up.

What you think has happened =/= what has actually happened. Numbers 1 through 9 are opinions--false opinions.

To answer the OP.

Halo 2 Xbox > Halo 2 Vista
Bad > Worse

And that would be your opinion. And i KNOW that you jump higher, because things I used to crouch jump to get on I almost jump completely over.

No, that is fact (not my opinion on the game though, but what you said is all an opinion). The jump was increased from Halo 1 to Halo 2, not Halo 2 Xbox to Halo 2 Vista. Check the dev tags.

Good luck playing with a stable framerate.

All you have to do to get a stable framerate on a not-amazing computer is run Halo 2 Vista on XP.

I think a good way to sum it up:
Microsoft shouldn't have picked Halo 2 Vista to promote Games for Windows Live.

  • 06.27.2007 10:18 PM PDT

I find the framerate a lot smoother, and the character models a little better. The network code is a lot smoother, I had horrible lag on halo 1 PC but I get a very good performace with H2 Vista. You deffinetely jump a lot higher, but that's the only main gameplay aspect I've found. It feels like you can't throw nades as far, and frags don't bounce as much but that's probably just me.

It's the hard heart that kills...

"To all those playing H2v, how does it compare to Halo2?"

Think of your Xbox or Xbox 360 with a set of brakes on the graphics rendering and you'll be in the ballpark. IMO, the graphical improvements are pretty minimal. The Vista overhead really bogs things down unless you have a pretty cutting edge gaming rig. Don't get me wrong: Mouse & KB are a big improvement for me in terms of frags. (The only reason I play H2 Xbox is that it's the only FPS my friends play, and the Xbox live party system makes it easy and cool for us to play together.) But the fact that I can't cross-platform play is a major drag. Right now, my brother, ReiboChief, is cannonizing players left and right on Containment, but I can't join him on my Vista machine... That blows, considering that the console junkies are given a nice aim-assist boost on H2V as well as H2 Xbox.

"And another question, is it worth upgrading to Vista for this game?"

Not unless you have a lot of disposable income or you're going to upgrade to Vista anyway. I like building PCs, and I wanted to experiment w/ Vista, so I was kinda going there, anyway. There might be something more asinine than what MS has done by locking H2 PC into Vista, but it strains my imagination to think of it. Wait: No KB & mouse support on the Xbox 360 is a close second...
