I've spent a total of two hours on the phone with Microsoft tech support trying to fix my issue with Halo 2.

When I try to sign in to GFW Live, I get an error that reads

The profile could not be signed in to LIVE. There may be a network problem or the Windows Live ID service may not available.

Before I called, I tried the "solutions" on the gamesforwindows.com Live support page. (If you read them you'll discover that they aren't solutions.) The "solutions" it suggested were

Error: The profile could not be signed in to LIVE. There may be a network problem or the Windows Live ID service may not available.

There was a problem signing in using your Windows Live ID. Verify that your PC is connected to the Internet. To check your Windows Live ID, and go to http://account.live.com to verify that you can sign in to Windows Live. You can also try signing in to your account at www.xbox.com.

I checked my account at account.live.com, and I could sign in just fine. Afterwards, I called Microsoft, and spent two hours on the phone with them. After trying many different solutions, he asked me if I had a router. Naturally, I told him I had one, and he told me that was the problem. He said I could not sign in to Live with a private IP address, and that I would have to bypass my router. WHAT?! I know some of you guys have been getting it to work with routers. Do any of you mind trying to help me through this?

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Yeah, unfortuantly I have been saying the same thing for a while now, which is to forward the port, but not 100% sure. You can wait for someone with more knowledge in networking to answer this.

Well, I might as well tell you that I've already forwarded the correct ports, since I know someone else will suggest that if I don't say it now.

I know that some people with satic Ip's have had some trouble, but not sure why. Oh and is your router wired or wireless?

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

Static IPs aren't the problem, there shouldn't be any reason why they would be. I should know, I use them for everything.

Just to make sure, you have have port 88 UDP, 3074 UDP and 3074 TCP forwarded?

It doesn't cause problems, it's just a few extra steps to set it up. :)

Yeah, I know, it's user error that causes the problems, and sometimes the charter guy. :P
