I've been playing Halo 2 since it came out, and last night and today I noticed that the number of beat downs it takes to kill someone has risen one. It used to be (and still should be) 2 hits to kill a person, but for some god-awful reason it's now 3. Why is it 3 beat downs to kill a person now?

Last night when I was playing Team Snipers I "assasinated" a guy, but it didn't register as an assasination. So I hit him again and went on my way (because I thought two beat downs killed a person) and then he turned around and sniped me. What is up with that? In every sniper match I've played I've had to use 3 beat downs to kill somebody.

Was this some update that I didn't hear about? Or is it me having last host every single match or something?

The number has always been 2-3. If you're moving, two, if you're standing still (or not moving very fast or something weird), 3. I don't know what's up... I like to blame netcode when something goes wrong.

Oh, ok. That makes more sense, but I think it should always be a certain number, moving or not.

the faster you are moving, or the higher you are jumping from when you melee someone, the greater the damage

Send A Friend Request to Schloxictonkey if you need a good teammate and you are good

ya, i seem to be the unluckiest beatdowner in the world. you would not believe how often i have to take 3 hits. its because i end up right in front of someone with full shields. good thing is they usually need 3 for me. i think if you move back a little bit after the first beat down itll only take two.

if they have that little bit of sheilds left it takes TWO "beatdowns", it takes only ONE lungebeatdown... or midair beatdown...

Its just you need to jump while you do your 2nd beatdown or hold back while you are hitting B B B :D and it only will take 2

i can stand next to an idle guy and it only takes 2 beatdowns. I always expect 2 beatdowns. Only time i need more than 2 is if its an overshield. bxbxbxb

The physics of this game are confusing at time, especially with beat downs. The one thing I don't get is the BR.

Say I have a BR, it takes 4 bursts to kill, but only 2-3 melees to kill. Common sense applied says that a melee does more damage than a BR burst. Yet, one melee+1 burst(headshot)=kill, yet two melees, which should result in more damage, isn't an assured kill.

The melee+ BR is only a kill if you're moving forward with the melee. In that case, either a headshot or another melee will kill.

For me, it's frustrating when I think I've done the lunge melee that shoud take down all their shields, but for some reason it didn't. Maybe I'm unknowingly letting go of forward right before I do the melee...I gotta pay attention to that now I guess.

One time I "assassinated" some guy with my brute shot, but he survived, I was like what the hell, then I died. I'm sick of it, its physics are pretty much bad.

The unregistering assasinations are probably just lag.

Anybody ever have this happen to them? -- Sometimes you'll be running/fighting side by side with someone (enemy), and you can see their back just on the corner/side of your screen. You try to assasinate them, but they end up assasinating you! So it looks like they assasinated you with their back towards you!

It's three melee with a sniper rifle, the snipers are the only weapons with a weaker melee.

the sword brute and SPNKR all have stronger melee's (no not the sword lunge the melee). If you jump and hit someone in the head with these three it will typically kill them in one hit.

Melee+BR always kills if you get a headshot.

Damn you roor!

fyi I'm pretty sure the sniper has the weakest beat down and I've always had to bxbxb to get a kill on someone with full shields. If you get headshots or are moving it does more damage(not sure which) and that usually ends in 2 hits.

I like the guy I melee'd 4 times with a br (2 from behind and two from the side) who turned and shot me in the face.
