I can't get any better. I find, that I am too inconsistent. Some days, I'll be playing really good, but most of the time, I'm playing very bad. It seems, I am stuck. So, what can I do to get better at Halo:PC? I try to practice with the pistol and sniper a lot, but it seems I have a lot of trouble predicting what the guy is going to do. So, could someone give me some tips on how to know where the guy is going to go next, and like, what to do if you're under fire, and have no shields. Also, what are some good servers, that have a large variety of gametyps and maps, that I can use to help get better? I've been playing on the KNFr server as of late, but I often go in there, only to find really good players, and get systematically destroyed. So, MAW community, what can I do to get better?

Slaying noobs since 2007.

First, play the maps by yourself, that way you know where every good location to snipe from is. Where you should avoid because it is easy to get yourself trapped, or know where you can take people to get them stuck at or trapped. There is tons of things you can do, like watch what your opponents do, or what habbits they have which you could exploit. Most of the best players I have seen play, would analyze what their enemies are doing before they move.

I pistol is the best weapon in the game, because you can kill people with 3 shots. All you need to do is practice aiming, since the netcode is messed up you will need to aim where ever the person is moving but a little bit past them in that direction. This is called leading, its also true with the sniper, you will need to use leading to kill them

With pistol, shoot slow. Make sure you aim each shot instead of just clicking a lot and trying to hit them that way. You'll use much less ammo and usually kill them faster. Keep playing in the knfr servers. Practice with sniper more and then if it goes to snipers/pistols on ratrace, practice with only pistol, since there isn't a sniper on that map normally, it's kinda dumb to practice with it there. Oh and with pistol, don't just aim for the head, you'll miss more that way. Aim the first two at the body, then the last one at the head. Also, to try and work on your technique and such, do 1v1s.

Good advice from a good player.

The key is to shoot slooooooow. The pistol is much more accurate this way, and you will develop the skill of only shooting when you KNOW it will hit.

Also, make sure that you "aim" onto the person before leading him. Try to get that red dot.

If your in a slump sometimes the best thing you can do is take a week or 2 break from the game. Try playing a game completely different for awhile you will find that your instincts are better when you come back and your not as worrying about little things. I also suggest not going to the knfr server for awhile, you should go to other servers and learn other techniques, play other really good players in different servers and learn what there doing past the aiming. But if you do want to learn aim, play people who are really poor at the game that way you have all the time in the world to test out your lead :). Leading is a hard thing to think out in a dire situation really other than your first shot or when the other person is a bad shot you shouldn't really have to think about your shot since you will be dead before you can figure out a good players strafe (and when i mean shouldn't think about it I don't mean shoot wildly at the person, you just got to do where you naturally want to aim). So all you can do is to keep playing until its natural and trust me it will become natural it just takes a long time and theres a good amount of slump points in the learning.

Also even though you should always practice your aim In halo you should be working on placement too. You should also start thinking when entering a battle what are my chances of winning, you should be at least 60% sure your going to win the fight before entering. You should also make sure your the one starting each fight, you do this by starting to learn traffic of the maps. Even though the Pistol is an awesome weapon and in any big map you should have it in the ready don't forget why people call people heavy noobs its because heavies are awesome weapons.

I agree with new420 above that 1vs1 is a good way to learn, its the easiest way to take a look at what your doing wrong, what he is doing right, and it gets your brain moving.

Really what I'm trying to say that is typically when your in a slump its not because of your aim, your aim is something that comes with time, its typically because you've gotten yourself in a bad mind set and need to get your mind moving in different directions so it can learn. If you do take my break advice try doing it after you've won a game I find that works best.

sorry I kind of went on a rant I hope this helps.

Alright, thanks for the tips guys. I already know about shot lead and stuff, but I guess the problem is I do like to try and aim for the head a lot, and miss a lot. I also have noticed, I'll usually get their shields down, but I can't finish them off, then they kill me. Should I try to just stay calm, and make the last shot smooth and slow? Beat downs are also hard too. Whenever I go to melee someone, I hear the squish of my gun connecting to the backside of their head, but it does no damage. Is this the same situation with the shot lead, where I have to lead the melee?

Oh yeah, if anyone wants to set up a game, to see what I'm doing wrong, or do some 1v1's, my X-Fire is t3h f4c3.

yes melees take a good amount of leading like any other weapon in halo. You should try practicing on an afk person to get a feel for how far away you can be from someone and still hit them, you will be surprised how long master chiefs arms are :) .

Yeah... so every weapon you need to lead with? I have trouble remembering this with a shotgun or when I melee. Add odsthelljumper1989 to xfire so we can get some matches going

I don't get why you say shoot slow...shoot as fast as you can while missing as little as possible, the key is to kill your enemy as quickly as you can, you will find your turning point and will get mroe accurate.

Also 50% of the game is map control.

heres a good thing to do:
get a rocket launcher. Problem solved!

thats what i generally do along with leading them with frags and hitting them with an occasional shottie.

but what i REALLY DESPISE is when i officially destroy someone, and they say
"omg ur lik, such a n00b!"
and I reply
"So I should change my playing style in order for you to win?"
and if they get run over with the warthog and decide to call me a vehicle noob.
"WHAT THE -blam!- ELSE ARE THEY THERE FOR, ORNAMENTATION?"
(unless of course its one 5 year old with a banshee. THEN and only THEN, is it noobish.)

I can kinda see where you are coming from, but if it is the only thing you use the entire game, nada.

LMFAO ornamentation nice one man.

pistol is a good weapon and shotgun too in case you have to reload and it gets pretty damn intense close range, also save grenades for up close encounters to weaken others, when you throw from a distance they have a chance to get out of the way

The point is to shoot only if it will hit. You tell people to start off shooting slow, make sure each bullet hits, then they naturally will speed up as they get better.

"shoot as fast as you can"

remember they can't shoot to begin with :)

By that logic, isn't the sniper rifle the best weapon in the game, since you can kill people with one shot?

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I had to settle with being "average". On some days I kick booty, but on other days I just can't get a kill. Probably biorhythms.

If someone is moving right, shoot to their right. If they change direction, shoot the other way. If they're moving erratically and too fast for you to follow, shoot in their general direction and pray!

Ok, how's about throwing a grenade, and not killing myself with it? I'll usually get in a fight, take his sheilds down, and he'll take down mine too, throw a nade, begin to run away, and he dies, but so do I. Should I try and back off more?
