Bungie,
How about you display how many times a thread has been viewed. It's nice to know how many people have read or at least glanced at your thread.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

I think that the primary thing to remember when considering ideas for this site's forums is that this is a gaming website that is trying facilitate intelligent discussion. Those two ideas are inherently in conflict, and after some rather spammy and annoying reminders of this fact, certain kinds of "competitions" have been eliminated from the activity of forum discussion on Bungie.net.

As with any number that goes up if people press a certain number or combination of buttons, gamers will see that number as being a "score." Consequently, you will notice very few things on this site that actually follow this matrix. Wherever there IS such a number (e.g., group membership totals), you can often find a rather irrational focus on that number and people trying to increase the "score," often using rather brutal and improper methods. Then, of course, they brag (or complain) about it right here on the forums.

This is an obvious issue with your idea, but I don't see anything particularly terrible about it. I mean so what if a person keeps hitting "Refresh" and then clearing their cache? Maybe they'll make a post or modify the subject line to brag about it, but it doesn't seem to have terrible spam potential.

But then you have to ask why you would care about such a number when the forums are about discussion and intelligent discourse. And as you say, there is really no good reason for it except that it would be "nice."

Overall, I'm kind of indifferent to the idea but leaning towards not doing it, as there's no good cause to implement it and it would inevitably lead to improper focus on certain threads for all the wrong reasons.

Well I guess some might view it as a competition, but there inability to influence it and willingness to create more interesting threads might promote creative threads.

I don't know that I'd really like to have it on Bungie.net. Although, as you said, it does let you see how many people paid a visit to your thread, I personally think that a post count is more important, because it gives you a better idea of how much content is in the thread.

I'm sort of against it; people could view it as a competition.
is it can be summary tiem now?
Also, agree. A words-per-post average would probably be better. That way I can avoid Foman easier =P

Read about the Forgotten Spartan I Program
Butane: To protect the world from devastation!
sir_brilliant: To unite all people within our nation!
Rainman89: To denounce the evils of truth and love!
sir_brilliant: To extend out reach to the stars above!
SpaceGhostFlyer: Jessie!
Butane: James!
sir_brilliant: Team Rocket blasting off at the speed of light
Butane: Surrender now or prepare to fight
sir_brilliant: Meowth, that's right!

I have absolutley no opinion on this matter. Man I've been dying to be able to say that.
