Cheap, everybody are "good" with pistols, just point and press press press and you got a kill, from anywhere against anyone.
I prefer to play against people who aren't standing still, but whatever floats your boat.
Thats sadly true mostly, many who i play with dont know how to jump and move efficently, they dislike Halo and its rarely played. But its still true that pistol is almost everyones choice and its always a great weapon.
I was being glib, but the point is made I think! If someone isn't moving all that sharply, a three-shot kill is pretty easy. The point is though when you have two people who know what they are doing, a pistol confrontation is anything but cheap - the strafe speed is higher than in halo 2 and single shots make it trickier to pull off the final headshot on an unshielded opponent. A pistol battle can become pretty epic. The speed of the 3-shot kill is a sticking point for people as well, but if you try out the other weapons on a stationary target in their best effective range you can see that all the weapons kill pretty darn fast.
I think a lot of people remember either playing against their friends who weren't into it as much and so weren't very good, or being one of those people and playing with one or two guys who were much more capable. The pistol is devastating if there is a skill gap and I think that counts against it in most people's mindset.
The pistol had problems but it's a shame that not everyone got to appreciate the system when it worked properly. It was a funny kind of working but work it did.
I dont really hate pistol as much i whine about it here, it rarely is a problem but it had problems and perfect game doesnt have those. Pistol can kill anybody almost everywhere and fact that almost everyone chooses to use and almost always you can take it so that proves it. I can imagine that pistol isnt as big problem when played with 16 players because every weapon is useful sometime, but i remember Blood Gulch fights with 4 players tops and pistol always works way too well, Shotgun isnt useful when enemy is 200 feet away, Covenant weapon bullets are seen from far away and easily dodged and its hard to spot someone with sniper and when i get hit and i cant zoom im dead before i know where im shot at so only vehicles and pistols give chances to win. When that close fight with pistols happen i rarely would say that epic, its fun to keep shooting and try to hit enemy but usually it looks stupid, not epic (i wouldnt like enemies jumping and strafing in campaign that much) and when other kills other we just have to wait it to happen again, but thats fault of player amounts and quality.
I say all weapons are "too" good (Shotgun range is really big too which makes Pistol-Shotgun combination God Combo, frags have huge kill range and much else) in HaloCE and id like to have little more POWERFUL SPARTANS (not weaker weapons), but if you could use only one weapon in Halo i think 95% of answers would be pistol because no one can really think why its bad: huge range, accurate, much bullets, common, powerful, hard to see, who wants more?
Carbine is my favorite weapon in Halo2 so i guess that means i like pistol too, but Carbine has weaknesses: Clearly visible bullets (really important, i may have never completed campaign on Legendary if i couldnt have seen where im shot from, pistols in HaloCE arent that common so it isnt problem), less bullets, better and realistic looking and somehow it just isnt as annoying.
