i just got halo 1 for pc today and i can't play it it keeps saying "Gathering Exeption Data"
one thread (at gamespot) says that it could be faulty modding, but i haven't yet modded it
after that it tells me to get the hot-fix patch
i still can't do anything
can anyone help me?

In your Halo Root directory ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo" by default) there is an application called "haloupdate." Double click it and it will search for updates. That should fix your problems.

You need to manually download the 1.06 patch and install it. Then in game it'll update for you.

sounds like a corrupt install

uninstall, then go to C\Program Files\Microsoft Games and delete the "Halo" folder

reinstall

Maybe something went wrong in installing it, or you got a damaged CD? Hmm.. Mine never said that so I wouldn't know.

I get the same problems man, its caused by running your game on to high a resolution, as soon as u get into the game dull the graphics down all the way and just start experimenting with higher ones from there, it is what i did, like u said as soon as i booted the game up id get to the menu try to start a game and it would crash saying gathering exception data. Try that and it should work

Did you re-install? If you didn't, do and be sure to click "repair corrupt files".

If that doesn't work, right click on the Halo shortcut and go to properties. In the target line add " safemoe" (without the quotes, with the space.)

And make sure (if you have a PC) you don't have the Mac CD.

Make this the target line: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe" safemode
Be sure to include quotes and spaces.

I've been having the same problem as you, except, two years ago, I installed Halo and it ran fine, from start to finish. I unistalled it after since I stopped playing again.

Now I wanna play it again, so I reinstalled it and I get the Gathering Exception Data window and the game crashes as well, as described. I would also like this problem to be fixed. I have posted similar things on many different websites, hoping to get an answer.

Please find out how to fix this soon!
