I have read that when all the player stats wher erased that the individuals connections stats wher also wiped clean. What I mean is that bungie reset everything so now the server must figure out who makes a good host and who doesn't. all over from scratch. Well before the new patch I would get host at least 3-4 out of ten games and almost everytime on select maps. At that time I had a speed of 9megs down and 1 meg up. About the same time the patch was set into play my internet provider (cox communication) upgraded my speeds to 12mbps download and 2mbps upload. Since all this change I have not gotten host 1 time and I mean not 1 time. I have checked almost every game I play ( by habit) To my question if the server is looking for the best host why am I 90%of the time the last person into the game and insted of using my screamingfast connection they chose a connection that is probly not ever 5 mbps. It seems to me that I ben playing a lot of laggy game. Is my router blocking something or something along those lines or does my speed not matter and bungie hates me. I not upset about it because I feel it makes me a better player in the long run but damn I am tierd of the LAG
and some of the off the wall sh1t that I have ben seeing and I mean crazy. ( 3 sniper to kill, going through someone when beating down, and the best when shooting some one and the bullets not registring.) yea if you are shouting some one from a distance and you see a little yellowish gold spark its not really hitting them(damageing ) Tested and it is true. So any answer to this? I can give my speed test for proff. if needed.

People can stand by them selves host by pressing stand by during the configuration phase. Thats why you probably never get host. Besides host doesn't always go by the fastest speed. I played on dial up and got host almost everytime. If bungie shortened the time between configuration and play you probably would get host more often.

In high definition baby!

Test your speed here and lets so what you got. By the way, you can host a lag free 16 players Halo 2 game with at least a 3 Mbps download.

There are my speeds. What I was saying is that ther was a post or something of the sort stating that bungie server tries to use the best connection for host and the more times you get host the server anilyzesthe data and if you make a good host it will try to use you as much as possible. I cant remember exact words but if a mod knows what I'm talking about he could clairify a bit beter. I willtry to find the wher I reseved the info from and post it. And if its true then what is up. Their is definitly a problem some where. Honestly I have not pulled host in about a month. Before erase I got it maybe 50 times a weak.

Halo 3 Academy--join to learn, join to play, join to have fun.

I know this is a little off topic but does anyone know what the minimum download/upload speeds are for lag free halo 2 gaming? (considering the host has a decent connection). My cable company was having problems last week so I was experiencing lots of lag.

You shouldn't be looking at download speeds. Upload speeds determine how many you can host.

Well all I can say is welcome to my world, it sucks to lag, I do all the time to the point of not even knowing whats going on sometimes. Bottem of the bar red lag and if I get host, which I get 2/10 games it makes it lag so bad that know one can stand it for long, If it continues just try to get used to it and lead your target a lot, and if your a sniper it might be a little hard to kill anything. All by buddies call me the master of lag simply because I can still get a running riot, ect in red lag so once you get used to it (or fix it) it should be somewhat like it was before.
I did that little test for connection speed: 704 kbps down 247 kbps up thats lots lower then yours

I play with 128k and is more than good almost anytime, but if you have your connection shared (xbox & PC) then you'll get lag if you use it at the same time, lag is the loss of data packages thru the web, maybe you have an excellent latency, but remember, the wider your connection is, the lowest package loss.
Latency is the time a package of data is sent from your computer (or xbox) to another computer, and back to you. An optimal latency value is >100ms (miliseconds), but the latency can be affected by several causes, like data traffic, location between computers, kinda connection (satelite internet has elevated latency), server saturation, etc... So you won't get an excellent connection all the time, if you want to check your latency, ping, and upload/download speeds, go here, or if you just want to make a ping test (ping is the measurement of latency), go to Start/Execute/cmd*
Then write: ping[space][IP adrees or URL]*
*Means enter.

When Halo 3 is released, I will be enjoying a 1.5Mb internet speed, and will be able to throw the granade when I press LT, not a half second later.

I feel your pain. I have noticed a difference since the reset as well. Oddly, I didn't see lag at all during the H3 Beta, but it seems impossible to play H2 anymore without lag. I have since given up on it. I will wait for H3 in Sept.. By the way, I average 8M down and 700-800k up when I test, so like you speed seems not to have much effect when others are using dial-up.
