Alright, first things first-this is not a Vista comptibility issue with the game. I will explain how it can't be. Also, I'm sorry if this was the forum to post this in, I figured that since it was a PC problem, and it was making it very difficult to play Halo PC, it should go here. If it belongs in another forum (such as The Flood), then a mod should move it to the correct forum.

Ok, so I recently got a new PC with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. It was pretty good as it came, but it had intergrated graphics (for refrence, it was GeForce 6150 LE) Now, I was able to play Halo PC ( as well as all of the XP games I installed) just fine, as in they started up and ran, but the GeForce driver never stopped responding. However, they were NOT running well in that they ran really slowly, and some weren't playable in terms of FPS, so we installed an ATi X1300 512 MB. Now, when I play any games, at frequent, the screen goes black for a few seconds, then the game comes back up (Except in the case of Doom 3 and Quake 4, in which the screen goes white once it returns. Also, during game play, there are these random tiny white dots all over the place (I think they may be at texture seams, although I can't say for sure.) After I exit the game, there is an icon in the sytem tray saying that the driver (atidvag.dll or something similar to that, I believe.) had stopped responding, and had resumed. I Googled the problem, and I found most things saying to uninstall the ATi driver, and go download the newest version from the ATi site and install that after restarting the PC, so that's what I did. My ATi driver is up-to-date (version 7.6), and I still get the same problem.

However, there is one thing that should also be mentioned: I did not uninstall the Nvidea drivers I found in the equivlent to add/remove prgrams in the Vista control panel. However, I didn't uninstall them because my motherboard's chipset is also by Nvidea, and I (obviously) don't want to uninstall something pertaining to my motherboard's chipset. I don't know if it has anything to do with the problem, but I figured I should throw that out there, just in case.

For further refrence, here's my PC's specs:

HP Pavilion m7750n

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium (preinstalled)
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (2.6GHz, Dual-Core)
Memory: 2048MB PC2-4200 DDR2 RAM
Hard Drive: 400GB 7200RPM SATA
Graphics: VisionTek ATi Radeon X1300 512 MB (Was originaly intergrated Nvidea GeForce 6150 LE)
Graphics driver:ATi Catalyst 7.6 (up to date)
Motherboard Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE / nForce 430 Chipset

Again, when I played any of the games I installed on Vista without the X1300, but on the intergrated, they ran fine (just very slowly, hence why we installed an X1300), so this isn't a compatibility issue between the games and Vista.

Please understand that this makes any game, including Halo PC, nearly unplayable, and is starting to really get on my nerve. If anybody could help me out with this, I would be very happy. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Is it possible your graphics card got damaged? It sounds pretty hooped to me :(

Doubt it, otherwise, I dont think the games would be running as fast as they are when the driver is working. I honestly think it is a driver problem, but I dont know how t fix it.
