When we think of Halo, we think of a lucid dream; a dream soaked with a culture that has grown without losing its soul; its identity. This identity compels us to be sucked in this world where will, hope, and timing rewards us with the gratification of a long hard fight and propelling ourselves closer to the mysteries that this world hides, as well as the common feeling of that we are not alone in our attempts to struggle with personal and external dilemmas, which seem to confront us at every turn. But like lucid dreams, we can control our thoughts and actions in a maryaid of ways, overt or not. These choices and there consequences, along with the feeling that we are making a difference, for the greater good, and for humanity, fulfills that quest that each human desires in there hearts. That tantalizing desire, is that we are here for something, and that we are something meaningful. Halo has brought even the most angry and pragmatic people together feeling the same thing; that something they are doing, that soul they dream with, is giving them that identity that they might not feel in the real world. There for, I thank all of Bungie for such a experience, and on behalf of the fans, for the hours that you seeped your sweat and soar wrists and mind numbing experiences so that we all can dream and feel something that to many in the real world, is nonexistent, or at the very least, minute. Thank you.


Two years ago, you may have recalled me writing to you Bungie of the little Ideas that I had for Halo, to maintain that soul, and enrich and prolong the lucid dream that sadly for all of us is coming to an end. I remember talking about things like the map editor and UI that I thought would be great for the game, along with sending people files, but doubting it really could be done knowing the legal perpetrators. Thats why I was shocked and amazed that not only did you pulled off the file sharing, but you even managed to pull off the UI and made everything better then What I had thought of. You even surprised me with the Game save editor, something that I never even dreamed of thinking up. I am glad to see though that it looks like you guys get it, more then even I thought you would. I guess I really don't need to say much, because you guys seem to be well a head of me on everything it seems. What I would like to talk to you guys about involves very minor things that in my opinion, after reviewing the beta, would make the soul of the game more visible and alive in Halo 3. I do not, like last time, want to demand, or even say “if you don't do this, then you guys miss the boat,” because looking at the current data that I see, you guys do get it. First I would like to talk to you guys about the particle system or effects with the guns and the game itself. Next I would like to talk about guns, and some overt things about them, but also new guns that are not really new, but simply stuff that you have done before. :) I Typed this up a few hours before you posted your update, so that I could make this very easy to skim through or read. I just hope I timed the weekly update right.

Part I
Section 1: Plasma Rifle

In the Pre-alpha build when I first saw the Plasma Rifle, I was scared that you guys where going to leave it as it was back in Halo 2. After playing the beta I now see that you guys changed it, and made the damage very good. Again, I feel you guys nailed it for the most part. People may argue that on its own its bad, but I feel that the PR {Plasma Rifle} is the best weapon in the game as a supporter. When duel wielded, this gun becomes a mammoth, and has good range too. I feel though that like many of the Convenient weapons in Halo 3, even though they look nice, the effects of them do not show there power, and seem to lack some of that soul that Halo has in the past with these weapons. What I mean by this is that historically Convenient weapons have been creatures of habit, but at the same time looked dazzling when firing and especially over heating. One thing I picked up from Bungie was they said they would focus more on Particle effect for Multilayer. I really don't feel that with the Plasma Rife. When It fires, I feel it should have its particle effects last a little bit longer, and when hits surfaces it should have a longer lasting effect, if that is possible with the 360. My biggest complaint lies with the overheating of the PR. When I think of the Convenient's most standardized weapon, one with a lot of power behind it, I would expect it to look like it. When that baby over heats, I think shades of blue should be more spectacular, almost like lightning scattering across clouds during a storm, with a dazzling display of a exhaust trail both on screen and in another players view. It should in my opinion, breath out the overheated plasma like a dragon was breathing hot blue flames. Even that extra sound effect or a deeper throatier effect of it exhaust will have you thinking cool, but also, O SHOOT!!!!

Section 2: Plasma Pistol

Well I wanted to say a lot for the PR so that I would not have to say much for the rest of the Convenient arsenal. One thing I really felt bad for was how weak I felt with the plasma pistol. Granted I think the PP {plasma pistol} should have the green plasma stretch a little longer in particle effects, or at least stretch the plasma trail, ^^ but I also find the PP possibly feeling cooler if you had a heat wave come out from the sides and the mussel. (As well as the top of the gun when it over heats. (you know, the stuff you see in deserts ^^) I think it would be better if it only lasted for so long, as it gives it more of a cool effect that makes you go “whoa!” Again, this is just what I think might be cool, and thank you for reading this.

Section 3: Spartan Laser

Great weapon Bungie. Really, it is an excellent gun. Like the PP and PR, I feel that it needs a good particle boost on the after burn(over heating). ^^ Perhaps some heat waves coming from the gun just after firing for a few seconds would do the trick?

Section 4: Sword

I love the sword. However, (of course ;P) I really miss the blue haze or glow that the old Halo sword had. I think the sword right now as it stands is perfect. However what I was cleverly thinking, ^^ was to have the player unlock the blue sword when he beats the hole game on legendary or something like that... and maybe.... toggling which type of sword he wants?

The beuity with this is that the player could have there character die with the blue sword, and have it dissipate like it did on halo, but leave the white part of the sword still around so when another person picks it up, and has not unlocked it, he just gets the white sword. ^^ This solves a lot of those little problems, but might add some challenge to the programmers for a few days. :I

Section 5: Rocket Launcher/Missile Pod/Grenade

I love the effects with the grenades, especially the Brute Spiker and Plasma grenade. My only wish was that there was a little more of that oomf (sp?) in the human grenade, but I can not think of what would make it really better. Sound effects are magic Bungie, just magic.

The Rocket Launcher I Fell is very good, but to me, the trail seems a little under-par compared to the sound of it whooshing by, and its spectacular explosion.

The Missile Pod to me really needs that glowing effect that Bungie had in there Pre-Halo days with the Anti Armor Rocket (2:03 http://youtube.com/watch?v=7Tqrfy4SR7I) look how cool that looks! I think that The Missile Pod as it stands right now, just feels like a weaker gun, and one of those reasons might be that players “feel” it is not that good. Like with food, sometimes the appearance can change the hole experience, and capture that soul. ^^

Section 6: Human Weapons

Right now as it stands, the Human weapons are very, very nice. My only complaint so far is that there muzzle flashes feels last gen, or in accurate on a lot of the weapons. However, like I said, everything else seems to be really good with them. ^^ Good job Bungie.

Section 7: Vehicular/ Map graphics

Except for the banshee, warthog, and atv, I think your vehicles (like the wraith) are suburb in terms of particle effects and looks. ^^
Banshee: I just wish it looked a lot like what I saw in the E3 trailer a while back. Maybe I was spoiled? ^^ I Like the Fuel Rod return, But I wish it had similar effects as the PR might have in my idea, as well as it sounding a little bit louder or meaner. I Love feeling powerful when firing a big gun and then hearing it, and seeing it desecrate my foes right in front of me. ^^

Warthog/ATV: I feel that these skins are one of the least changed out of the Halo series. :( I guess I was hoping for just a little bit more realism in the two vehicles, especially with the ATV's wheels, but for the most part I like them still. I would love however to see a little bit more mud fly, or sandy dirt when near water when your taking a sharp turn. It would be even cooler if it could stick on walls or cliffs for 1 second. ^^

Maps: I love the soul that you guys put into the maps Bungie. It makes me think of Halo/Halo 2. Textures look nice for the buildings and everything too^^. I would also like to say that who ever created them ruined cement blocks shining in the light on High Grounds both near the base and outside the tunnel, HOLY -blam!- -blam!-!!!! Man thats some good lighting effects and textures. I remember just sitting there thinking, now why can't the rest of this map besides the buildings look like that? Damn that looked good. Seriously, who did that, they need a fricken raise man!

Alas though, the ground textures and rock textures I feel are well.... xbox gen. :( Mind you, the upper cliff walls on High Ground is very good, but the rocks seem like they were just placed there, you can even see the lining from the ground separating the rock. I know its all still place holder, but I feel that the secret to why people think its halo 2.5 lies with the cliff/rock textures themselves. Take the other level besides snowbound for example. Every cliff looks the same to me, and the grass looks like someone when around in an editor and just clicked a bunch of times to spread grass around. Mind you, I still think the game looks great, but I feel that if this was addressed, even with some cheep texture changes, I think it would be the thing that stops people complaining about the graphics. ;)

Section 2: Fuel Rod:

Again, something brief: I really think the PP,PR effects I talked about would be cool and make the covie guns so much better. I also hope the Particles for this gun if it does exist, be bigger and longer lasting, since it is green loads of radiation fun, where talking about here. ^^

Section 3: DLC or Disk: Weapons?

I will start with the First one. ^^ The Spear gun or harpoon gun was made by Bungie back in the Pre-Alpa days, and acted very much like Crackdowns gun in the DLC {downloadble content}. I personally, along with (I bet) many other fans, would love to see this gun some time come back for the player to use. ^^ With this game being 500 years in the future, I bet we could perpell a object a long ways away. ^^ I really doubt Bungie did put this in the final game, but What I am saying here is, if Bungie can with the given software, inject new weapons and vehicles in the game viva DLC/CD, Bungie could you possibly look at this gun as a option?

At 2:54, “The boring Device” is one of my all time fav. old fashioned weapons from the Pre-Halo days. The way it fired and looked was something that I think no one has ever seen, and is by far one of the most unique guns I have ever seen myself. Again, if it is possible, could this another gun to look at for the future if it is possible?

At 3:07, My favorite Halo weapon besides the Carbine and Needler (oh yes, I am a big Convenient weapons fan ^^) Is the “Gravity Wrench” or jokingly the “monkey wrench.” This is the most unique gun I have ever seen, even down to firing, and out of all the guns Bungie has created, my favorite. I really hope that again, if it is possible, that Bungie look into this as an option if it is plausible for DLC or Disk updates for Halo 3. ^^

Conclusion: I honestly thought I would not get this done in time for the update, But I was glad I was wrong. I Wrote 5 pages of this because I feel that I owe it to you guys for giving me the experiences that I have had with halo, and if there is anyway I can help keep that Soul going, I would be glad to do it. Thank you for taking your time to read all my idea or the ones you wanted to see, and I truly hope it might somehow, in someway, help you guys out with any of your ideas your thinking about keeping, or getting rid of. Great update, and good job Bungie! ^^

I think the glittering object is a mostly finsihed version of either campaign or the extra features that they are going to demo at a game show.
