The End

‘The conscious is cancerous if allowed to linger’

"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."

Well, as the title suggests I am not happy. These forums are going to pot. Go to the Halo 3 forum and see for yourself, there are threads like "Pony In Halo 3" and "This would be awesome" which then ends up to say - Dual wielding energy swords waha, woosh yeah." I mean seriously WTF is going on, it is madness.

My real concern is that we have 25 moderators. 25!!!! And there really isn't enough people to go around, a lot of the time there are no mods on at all and so spammers have free rain. There are so many topics that I see and think "That needs to move" or "This guy deserves a short term B-list for hi consistent spamming after several warnings" and I see no action.

It is unbelievable and I personally think we need more moderators to counter-act the plague because currently we have at least half of them sleeping and have spammers coming in in the hundreds with no remorse. I also think punishments should be given to people very quickly after a warning and without mercy. If people see a locked topic with a title like "I want Ponies in halo 3" with the post starter black-listed quickly, they may consider stopping their own antics.

The mods need to be a bit more active. But you know what? -blam!- happens. Even with a hundred moderators, you will find times when none are online. I don't get paid enough to be online all the time.

Here's a tip: When you see stupidity, ignore it. Your "zomg mods, pls lok!" only bumps the thread.

You don't get paid, it is volunteer work right? You are right that -blam!- happens and that things will happen even with 100 moderators but, lets be fair there is -blam!- and then there is a lot of -blam!-. Do you see where I am coming from?

Yeah, I just wish I could just march them right to their mums and she'd slap their rists. Winging doesn't help but so many peiople do it that topics hardly ever auto-lock and spammers get loads of attention. Look a the Halo 3 forums now, people keep posting in binary, there are threads begging for things and there is a topic where people want a pony in Halo 3. I am sick of it.

75 more mods would help.
They would most certainly not solve the problem entirely, but they would help.

The Halo 3 forum has always been that way. I think your best option is to simply ignore what happens there.

Aye, more cowbell.

Madness? This is bungie.net.

I personally feel we need more moderators, like 15-20+ more. I've always felt we need a much larger moderation team, even when there were a larger number of active moderators, there were big downtimes, but now, such a short time after recruitment of a new batch, we're seeing the least amount of moderator activity... well, ever. Frankly, we just need more cowbell.

There was alot less of it.

"Why?" you ask?

Shishka. Well, Shishka and the brace of way oldskool moderators, having been staples of the community for years, who have recently stepped down/gotten the sack. Not to belittle the current moderation team (who do do an excellent job), but there just seems to be so much less moderation going on. Like in the flood the other day, there was a thread with someone asking for CD-keys, managing to last almost 90 minutes, whereas before that, i honestly cant think of a thread like that (at peak time) surviving for more than 10 or 20 minutes.

The fact is...

We will always need more cowbell.

Whatever level of moderation we have - people will always want more. That is not to say we simply shouldnt bother, in fact, we should probably strive to meet the infinite demand of the community. I feel that as soon as a person can be trusted, they should be provided with a level of moderation powers, because frankly the more moderators, the merrier.

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

You have to remember that Forum Ninjas are people like us.

They have lives, families and real life issues that come first over their moderating duties. I know they put what they can into their tasks because frankly, I'm not sure an individual would want to spend all their "online time" moderating, now do they? Most spend a great portion of it giving back to the community and that's what we all like to see. :)

The current set of mods are doing fine and I notice no major issues popping up that points to lack of activity or that 25 Ninjas are not enough. For the meantime, just ignore the threads. It's not that big of a deal <_<

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I see where you're all coming form. This week literally beat me to a bloody pulp. I haven't been on as often as I usually am, and it looks like some other mods have been slacking a bit recently too. Though I'm sure they have their reasons.

Still, Sorry about that.

In as far as the more moderators portion of this thread; I'm game. The more the merrier, especially as Halo 3's release draws near. Though, its of course left up to the web team. If they don't think that we need more mods, I trust their judgment. Running this site is their job, and I think they have proven to us that they know what they're doing. Adding more mods would mean that there will be more complications behind the scenes. Its a risk vs reward scenario, and its up to the web team to decide what's worth the risk, and what's not worth it. And as I said, they are professionals, and I for one trust their judgment.

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

The system takes care of itself. If the thread is spam then leave it alone and hope that it rots and dies off, but, that doesn't mean that you can't report it. Report the thread for spam and then be gone with it. Active threads will replace it and if people are bumping the thread it will get checked into. Either way: A suspicious popular thread with a non-sensical/repeat title, or a thread reported to a moderator will most in likely be dealt with. Do all that you can do to help the situation, don't slow down the work of the Ninjas.

You can use kd5shw's "Modwatch" page to track moderators online.

...MSN...
*edit* Yeah, my post it pretty stupid and pointless, but it's true. Ask a couple of mods for their MSN. Most of them will give it out to you. Then, when you see if a thread is bad and deserves locking, check on MSN (or AIM for that matter). Usually one or two mods are on at one time. :P

Yay! I have been waiting for this topic to come along, for some reason this forums always seems a bit more lively when we start discussing more moderators/less moderators/moderator abuse/....well....moderator stuffs. And to be honest, it is sad, but it is true.

To the point, well, the topic, I don't think we need any more moderators, the current ones are doing a great job. If more come along due to the decision of the web team, so be it, as long as they don't hurt the community, then they are good by me. Punishment is never the answer. Yes, it may help lead some to the answer, but it is not the answer. From you statement, saying punishment should be dealt more quickly, I say no. This would get those that get in trouble on accident, and we all do, a scare from the forums. At the moment, this is not what we want. If you see a spam topic, ignore it, that is all you need to do.

I, and I don't mean to sound rude, if I do, my apologies. I see this thread as self promotion Tom, I hate to say it, but I do. Only because of these two bits right here:
There are so many topics that I see and think "That needs to move" or "This guy deserves a short term B-list for hi consistent spamming after several warnings" and I see no action.
It is unbelievable and I personally think we need more moderators to counter-act the plague because currently we have at least half of them sleeping and have spammers coming in in the hundreds with no remorse.
I'm sorry, but from reading this, it sounds like you are asking to be a moderator, or at least suggesting that you should be a moderator.

No, you should know me better than that elmicker, that is just how I read it. As I said, I apologize for how I interpreted it, but that is how I read it, and understand it. Bad choice of words on my part, and his.

I just think Achronos should get a few new mods, ones he can trust. Perhaps people who are on all the time and have no lives he could chain them to the bungie.net sever with rations everyday lol.

...they're locked in the server closet... with the Soul...

not to be offensive, but Achilles I think once posted that the mods here have lives, and jobs, and won't always be able to attend to this website.
I sorta agree. We don't really need any more mods. We have 24 (not including Maka, who is...afb) I highly doubt, that even with 100 mods, this website could be monitored 24/7. It's not really possible. Yeah, I'm probably just quoting other posters above me, but this is my opinion.
And like JaF said, -blam!- happens. ;)
Not to be harsh or anything, but this is what I think. Just voicing my opinion.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Did you ever consider that by whining about spam, you're producing it?

People spam. That is because some people are morons. People who do probably will get banned.

But here's the big secret - if they spam, and you ignore them, they stop spamming. But every time you reply or even read said spam, you make the problem worse! You don't answer all the male enhancement ads you get in your email, do you? No!! You don't even read them!

Then why the heck do you respond to spam threads on this forum? Do you think the person spamming actually cares that you're upset with him? Or do you think that he thinks it is hilarious that you are getting riled up over something he did that doesn't matter and is forgotten in a few minutes?

STOP REPLYING TO SPAM, STOP WHINING ABOUT SPAM. Let the the moderators do their jobs. If you see spam, send them an email or PM like their signatures say. This is not rocket science. This is simply common sense.

In closing, we need more cowbell.

Jessica agrees. I wish moderators would take a harder line with spammers, and also maybe start warning people who are baited by them and reply with "STFU DOOD STOP SPAMMING OR ULL B BANNED!!"... Because people who fall for the spam are almost as much of a problem as the spammers. ]:
