I had this idea. We all see how Guilty Spark seems to know the Master Chief, and also acts like he has activated halo in the past and wiped out the galaxy. (“Guilty Spark: last time you asked me, if it was my choice, would I do it.”) So I began to wonder, if for whatever the reason in Halo 2 Master Chief is forced to go back in time and destroy the galaxy of the past, meeting Guilty Spark explaining why he already knew Master Chief in Halo, and why he thinks MC has done this before. He could also be the one to restart the Forerunner, or actually save some d.n.a to start them over as a "NEW" race. (Humans) There is one catch; this would only work if the humans were the forerunner. (And in my opinion they are.) And for some unknown reason he would have to save the Covenant from halo as well. Why he would he do something as blatantly stupid as that; I have no idea. (Plot twist?) This also explains why Guilty Spark calls him "The Reclaimer" because he reclaimed all of the races from the infestation of the flood.

All of this kind of' might seem a little strange at first, but it does fill in some holes... [/END-RANT]

Weird, but interesting.

That was odd and confusing. Please elaborate a little.

Heh- heh, I overanalyze Halo- it’s a gift, and a curse. Next week we look into the origins of “The Guardian of the Luminous Key”. (again, for some of you.)

Nice rant, it makes sense, but who knows really. If there was any theory that might be true it mies will be yours, cause its the best Ive herd.

It's the only way (besides insanity) that Guilty Spark could know Master Chief. All else, at least that I could think up, doesn't work. Unless MC has a parasite in... nah- I'm not even going to go there...

I don't think that idea would work for Halo 2. Possibly Halo 3. But it would mess up the continuity with Marathon (which I am completely convinced is in the same universe as Halo).

Bungie makes Halo with Marathon Easter Eggs. They aren't in the same universe/dimension. That's just too wierd- even for me. ;-)

Maybe 343 is just a bit confused as he has been left on his own for so long and when he talks about knowing MC before it might have just been some kind of humanoid form of being.

 • 04.15.2004 3:22 PM PDT

May be, but that still means that the Humans are the Forerunner. Everything, in the end, leads there.

yea there's also something else i'd like to know. How does 343 know there is a MJOLNIR version 12(or was it 14)?

Ok, stick with me on this one. Maybe the universe was once already wiped out once or many times before and the same situation keeps repeating itself and MC is is the one meant to do so and has the past times so thats why 343 knows him or thinks he knows him. Just an idea.

Ok, but whoever/whatever activates Halo then they will be destroyed at the time of activation. Another theory of how 343 knows MC is that if every installation has a variant of 343 they may all share knowledge and an MC-alike's presence at another installation may have caused this recognition. I'm going to have to read the books again and find some answers.

-S

Time travel posts on HBO are always met with scorn on my part over at HBO, but I'll play nice. ;) In fact, it's something of a joke now. People make time travel commentary just to rile me up. =)

Anyhow, there's a number of possible explanations for why 343 Guilty Spark believes the Master Chief is the same Reclaimer that activated Halo long ago. However, as I recall, 343 calls at least one other human in The Flood "Reclaimer" as well. Perhaps, then, there's reason to assume that 343 GS is simply making a mistake?

Nah, that's too easy.

Also in the novels is a Bungie convention- Deja Vu. As Master Chief does things on Halo, such as uses the light panels to activate the light bridge or access the Control Room, he's doing things he remembers- but he doesn't know why he remembers them. This would suggest that, as 343 asserts, the Chief has been there before, or at least, has the memories of being there...

I'll leave this thread with a line from the end of Marathon Infinity:

But you were dead a thousand times, hopeless encounters successfully won. A man long dead, grafted to machines your builders did not understand. You follow the path, fitting into an infinite pattern.

Yours to destroy and rebuilt.

The War will wage forever; though with it's fury comes a peace that you will never know here.

Yes... your 'humans as forerunner' theory. I've always enjoyed that one, since it makes the most sense.

For a wierd reason, I dont recall our 'Guardian of the Luminous Key' discussion. Does this have to do with (SPOILERS AHEAD) a prophet, and the index being the 'luminous key'?

I think that's how it went, but I could very well be wrong.

I dont think the humans will be the forerunners, too many people already expect it. Bungie is way more complex than this simple theory.
