I have one friend on my list that I can never join with for custom or matchmaking games because I get an error message that says you can't join this party because we're having network problems. Anyone know what my problem is?

did you ever hear of an auto-cocker?
...Thats what she said.

I know these 2 people on my friends list, One of them cant join a party if Graveline is in it already so whenever Andreas wants to join i have to ask Graveline to leave, let him join, then come back.

Its kind of funny considering that the two are actually pretty good friends too!

its your NAT......you have to change the ports to open by putting in the numbers for Halo 2 they can be found online.....enable your DMZ.....and set your ip address to automatic.....there are websites out there to help you with this.....i just googled Linksys changing NAT to open and that helped me out a lot and now i can join anyone's party.

"If I'm not back in five minutes... just wait longer."

How do you configure NAT, or whatever I have to do, with direct hookup to my modem? (I don't have a router.)

This may be due to various issues, but in this case it is most likely a connection problem or one player has their NAT set to strict. A suggestion would be to reset your modem and/or internet connection before signing into Xbox Live. You may also want to run a test connection from the Xbox/Xbox 360 dashboard. If you continue to experience problems I would contact your internet service provider or the Xbox Live Technical Support Team here.

i duno i never had that problem without a router being involved........its probably not you that cant join peoples games its them because most of the time if you are directly connected to your modem you wont have that problem....just google it and see what comes up....my guess is to type modem open NAT connection

NAT = Network Address Translation

Normally when your NAT is MODERATE or STRICT it means you have an incompatible device. What you can do is, IF you're on a router connection -- try a direct connection to the modem and see if the same thing happens, if it doesn't, what you want to do is contact your router manufacture to assist you in oening these 3 firewall ports on your router (UDP88, UDP3074, TCP3074). After opening those ports, your NAT should be open then, IF it doesn't - you may just need to replace your router. To check compatibility go to http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/homen etworking/equipment.htm it has a list of XBL compatible devices as well as sometimes your ISP could be the issue IF it's not XBL compatible.

So what you would want to do is, test your XBL connection and see what your NAT says as well as have the friend that you're not able to connect to do the same thing and see what his/her NAT is before going further. IF both of your NAT is strict and you're both on a router connection - both try a direct connection to the modem at the same time and try connecting that way, if you still can't, check compatibility then you may want to contact xbox customer support.

The thing is, if you are connected directly to the modem, no Network Address Translation should be taking place because that is a function used to share one external IP address between multiple devices, and normally it is the remit of a router - with only one device on the modem it isn't required. Seeing as you aren't using a router, I'd be very surprised if your NAT was not given as 'Open' by the 'Test connection to xbox live' utility in the xbox dashboard. (Open being the ideal)

Made an account in 2006. Visited Bungie.net in 2005. Joined Xbox Live in 2005. It's amazing to see how the site, Bungie, and Halo have evolved over the years. Utterly amazing.

It happened to me too, but i got new router and it was fixed.

Some people's connections aren't compatible with each other. I have a friend (I know him in real life and he has an XBL tag) who can't join my games if I'm the host and I can't join his games if he's the host. We can still join the same game together, as long as neither of us are the host. And it does this with every game, not just Halo 2. Some people just can't connect together.
