Yes it works with a patch, but for what I've heard, you can't play online.

it works with an unofficial patch, but that makes it illegal because it was manipulated beyond the technical limitations which the EULA license agreement says. I'd just buy Vista.

Yes, spend $300+ on an OS just to play a game when you can get a 'free' patch and play it on your already bought XP. And who's gonna know he's playing it on XP anyways, hmm???. It's not like Microsoft has there own satellite tracking system to spy on everyone using their products.

Don't be an idiot and buy Vista 'just' to play H2V, if your gonna buy it, make sure your gonna use it for everything else too. Unless of cause your a die hard Halo fan that is the type of person who willing to spend hundreds of $ to buy a Halo coffee cup signed by Microsoft.

As he said, it is an illegal action, so that's a No-No for you pal. By the way, I do not doubt that at some point Microsoft WILL be able to track your downloads and every action. And even perhaps block your Windows Software for doing so. [/assumption][/idea][/hypothesis][/guess][/younoob]

I've never read the EULA, to be precise I've never read any EULA for anything, I'm a slow reader and consider it a precious waste of time. But I don't care what anyone says, he's bought windows XP legally, he's probably gonna buy the game legally, they are both owned from the same company, and yet, a simple 1MB patch turns everything illegal???. If thats the case, perhaps Microsoft should sue themselves for releasing Halo "XBOX ONLY" onto PC.

Mayhaps Microsoft should be sued for releasing a game that could definitely run on XP/2000 and saying it can only run on Vista in an effort to force gaming consumers to purchase Vista. Honestly. It's already been proven multiple times by multiple groups that Halo 2 could have been released on XP/2000 and would have ran fine. Microsoft are just attempting to manipulate the gaming market so they can leech more money from that consumer base. Here are some tips for Microshaft. I mean Microsoft.

I. Some people can't afford Vista.
II. Forcing people to buy Vista to run a game that you could run on XP/2000 could weaken consumer loyalties.
III. Someone please hire Microsoft a -blam!- economics tutor.
IV. Seeing as this is just a scam to make more money for Microsoft, it's a bloody stupid idea. Think about it. By releasing Halo 2 only on Vista, some people are going to be forced to buy Vista and the game, and some will buy the game, buy the illegal software, and then buy Vista after Microsoft releases updates and patches that make the software obsolete. Yes, the scam is a success. But what if Miscrosoft had just released H2 on XP/2000 as well? Then there would be more people buying the game. That alone would probably make up for a large percentage of the profit they would make by forcing people to buy Vista. And to make up the rest of the profit they could make, all they would have to do is release 2 versions of certain features and updates; one free and one not free, the free version lacking features of the paid version. In theory, Microsoft would make basically the same profit over time, and possibly more considering what updates they released to make up for revenue lost by not forcing users to buy Vista.

On the 16th of May 2007, it was announced that Falling Leaf Systems is going to release a compatibility pack for Halo 2 to run on Windows XP. The pack is estimated to be ready for July 2007. Compatibility libraries will be provided (when ready) when Halo is ordered from their site. As Halo 2 is currently a Vista-only game, it is unknown what Microsoft's stance on this is.

Released the third week of June 2007, a program that enables Halo 2 to run on Windows XP was released by user abcba on the File front forum. The program consists entirely of legal code that implements any missing function Halo 2 needs to run on Windows XP. Using this program, the single player section of Halo 2 is playable on Windows XP.

Wow, We've already heard of "Falling Leaf" from a month or so ago, and most of us have discredited it as lawsuit bait for Microsofts teams of lawyers.

Your "Ha" is returned with a little bit of STFU NUB thrown in.

And why are people still whining over this? The games been out for a while now, the whining gets old kiddies.

And besides, if the patches can only make the Campaign mode work, what's the use in spending that much? Not only has it been established that Halo 2's best point is the improved multiplayer, but also that it's Campaign mode is less than satisfying. Granted, that is just an opinion. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who only plays Halo for the mutliplayer. So, unless you're a big fan of Halo's Campaign mode, I really don't see the point in even buying it.

I've heard from a bunch of people here that the Windows XP version works, but has no online options. Will the Falling Leaf version of the game have online play? If not, I'd be better off buying Halo 1 for the PC. I do not own an Xbox (sadly) and I do not intend to buy Vista so early in it's release.

did you completly miss his second point, which is more intresting. i think you can find evidence of this point on wikipedia.

then yes it does run on xp just campaign FOR NOW i really think multiplayer will happen and heard it runs better on xp which better not be true considering its a vista release.

And finally, just buy a second hand xbox and copy of halo 2 which you could probably pick up for the same price as H2V. the graphics aint greatly improved in H2V and H2V seems to have some bugs from what i've read on here ppl are getting frame rate problems even with the higher end PC's but thats just what i've read

I would not expect online to ever work on XP. Get Halo PC and Custom Edition, it'll be more fun than a buggy Halo 2 Campaign.

Although I agree with you, you're being kind of repetetive there...notice how your first paragraph, and your second and third statements are pretty much the same...

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I tried the "Loader" thing but it complained about missing configuration and wouldn't work.
