Head-Shot pretty much covered a lot of ground on his Sniping guide, and I'm sure he'll touch base on some other stuff, but for now, I would like to share my views on sniping.
One thing that most Halo Snipers do not realize is that kills are not everything. Snipers are useful recon units. How many times have you been completely ambushed and caught off guard by a TANK? Not too many, but when you do, you're screwed. Plant snipers in strategic hotspots in safe-areas where they can observe enemy activity and report back with the helpful Team-Chat in Halo 2 on Live. Always check with your snipers before launching an attack.
A second thing that snipers are misunderstanding is the fact that when you snipe, you ARE NOT AN ASSAULTER. Snipers do not run around shooting anything that moves. Too many times have I seen two snipers strafing at 100 feet engagements wasting bullets and putting out rounds while totally giving away their positions. A sniper is a very difficult role to play when used correctly.
The most common thing with snipers is staying put. Snipers do not stay put. By staying put I mean killing an enemy and staying in that same spot for the remainder of the match. That is NOT the way to do it. Take two shots at most against opponents and if you take them down, relocate. This is why battlefield knowledge is so important in Sniping as Head Shot stated. For instance, they could get taken out by you, then grab a sniper and zoom in on your position.
Snipers are one of those units that SHOULD have a very low death rate. If you play a 10 minute game and die 20 times, that's a sign that you need to improve on stealth. Keep in mind that your bullets trace back to your position, so only shoot when they have their back to you. Another helpful tip is whenever you have the oppurtunity, grab active camo. You have no idea how valuable it is to move across an entire battlefield undetected into enemy territories.
And now, for my sniping nests.
Zanzibar: On the beach look to the wall that is behind the vehicles. There is a small gap in the wall in the ocean. Crouch in this position and if people respawn there, take them down, odds are they wont be able to see you as they will have their back to you. This position is invaluable in CTF and Assault matches, as you can recon back to your team to prepare for their vehicular attacks and such.
Coagulation: The ledges on the shadowed side of the map are invaluable sniping spots for defending against people going for the rocket launcher to take down your vehicle assaults. It is imperitive that you control the ledges if you are to snipe in Coagulation. (Works in Blood Gulch too)
That's all I can think of right now, I'll post more later.
Tell me what you think!
