Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I finally got Halo 2 Vista, and it ran semi-okay at all high settings. I stopped playing for a while, and went I went back the game started running at next to 0 FPS, and the controls are almost totally frozen. I tried restarting from scratch, and It's so locked up it took me over 5 minutes to exit the game. What's going on?

Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

What are your specs? It sounds like your hardware doesn't meet the requirements.

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 2.4 Ghz
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS 256 MB
Sound: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 5.1

Vista gives me a 4.2 rating. The game ran great the first time.

Background apps running?

Heh, properly maintaining your computer you can run pretty much anything in the background and still run a game really well.

UT2004, Halo PC, Halo 2 vista, firefox with lots of tabs, xfire, trillian, netmeter, and foobar 2000. :)

Anyways, The first thing I thought of was drivers as all of your hardware is plenty fine to run h2v except if you have less than 1 gb of ram, which you never stated. Since creative drivers suck the most try uninstalling those first.

I used to run San Andreas while Having Half-Life 2 in the background - ran perfectly even with integrated graphics :)

I leave Halo 2 vista running in the background quite often, I don't see a need to quit out of it.

node, if you had H2V running fine originally, stopped playing it for a while, then came back to it, I would think you've probably installed more software on the machine and there's probably more tasks running in the background. Check your Task Manager to see how many total processes are running and how much of your RAM is available. Also, do let us know how much RAM you have.

I have 1 gig of RAM, and haven't installed anything since H2V.

So should I give up and focus on HPC and CE?

Seems to me that you're running out of RAM. It happened to me, so I just adjusted the computer performance to Best Performance (thus disabling a bunch of visual setting), and saved a butt-load of RAM. Also, exiting all un-needed applications really helps.

Before I set it for best performance, it used to run like crap, and I had the same problems as you. We both should really get a RAM upgrade :(

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

Get more RAM.
