Noob is what stuck just because of the 2 shots one kill deal. Its certainly not skill, the goop does most of the work for you by tracking your guy, and BR headshots at that distance are a joke. I nominate needler+PP as the noob combo.

Its only a noob combo if you die in a 1v1 fight using it.

yes, it IS a noob combo, because you don't even have to AIM with the PP, the shot goes right to your opponent without the reticle even being red, and it doesn't take ANY skill to make a headshot with a br, sweepshots are even easier because you shoot 3 bullets at a time, and only one has the hit to make the kill. it totally ruins the game when someone uses it the entire time. just because it's in the game doesn't mean it isn't cheap.

There are walls to go behind to avoid a plasma pistol charge it doesn't go through walls. You don't just rush the person with the combo in a straight line. That would make you the "noob". Here is some advice think when you play. If someone is using a combo its probably not a smart idea to rush them wait for them to come to you when they shoot the plasma bolt straife behind a wall so it hits the wall instead of you then straife back out and kill him.

I don't have any problems with noob combo except when host has it and it still hits you even if you ducked behind a corner or something.

There seems to be a fair bit of splash when it hits a wall since you'll still have your shields dropped even if you're behind something, or just rounding the wall as the goop goes splat.

to be frank, I think it's a little of both.

and again, to be frank, Halo 2 is a very buggy game. I cannot say that I have, in fact, played a game that was worse than this one in terms of gameplay bugs. let's count up how many this game has...

1) BxR
2)Double Shot / Quad shot.
3) wharthog exploiting. "ghosting" if you will.
4) sword "flying" by means of warthog.
5) "Sword flying" by means of the rocket launcher / energy sword exploit where you hit Y and the Right trigger really fast.
6) B / X exploit. (hitting R and X very rapidly).
7) double nades.
8) Triple nades (this last one can be produced by lag, and no other game to date has achieved this)

If it hits the wall it wont hurt you. There is no "goop" you speak of.

goop= plasma shot that hits you

And if it doesn't hurt on hitting the wall, there's some clip issues when the thing is going over or to the side of objects since things like corners are sometimes ignored.

There's no splash. It's just that on THAT player's screen you're not behind anything while on you're screen you are. It's just a matter of latency and host.

That may be true but you made it sound like the plasma pistol had splash damage.

Couldn't of said it better myself. People dont realise there is about 1 second delay from the hosts xbox to yours. And thats on a good connection. Xbox live is nowhere close to lan so you just have adjust to it.

people call all power weapons "noob" weapons, noob combo, noob cannon (rockets) noob stick (sword) etc.

Funny thing is that it takes skill to use rockets and sword. The noob combo, all you have to do is line up the bolt of plasma and shoot the guy once in the head.

LOL.

Shooting a guy once in the head, is just as hard as getting a rocket kill. Neither take much skill

Ever try using a rocket against a gauss hog or a tank or even agaisnt a BR guy at longer ranges?

Put it this way: You are running to a base in Foundation, you have the rockets. A guy comes from behind the wall and starts using the BR, by the time you switch and try to fight back you're dead. So do you launch the rockets or die trying to use the BR?

Is called Noob Combo, because players get angry because they were owned in less than a second. That's why...
I always use it, call me a noob, but those who get angry are the noobs, even thinking they are pro's.

A straightaway from one base to another in foundation I wouldn't really consider long range, more like medium..

I don't like using it because people will whine if I do. I will however use it if someone else grabs it, but they still complain, I CAN'T WIN!

Judging by your double team rank and the amount of games played... maybe you're just bad?

I hate people who say its a cheap way to kill, first of all u shouldnt b stupid enough to get killed by it more than once per games, and then after they're finished complaining, they pick up the noob combo and start using it. quit being little -blam!-s and get used to it its part of the game

  • 07.05.2007 1:30 PM PDT

It's the n00biest thing there is. Which makes me happy that in H3 they appear to have taken the edge off of the PP. I noticed a couple of arguements that "the pros use it" but that doesn't mean anything MLG pros also use the double-shot technique and also super-bounce. Because MLG uses LANs they get to set the rules up for their matches, and since they allow all of that stupid stuff the "pros" pick it up. It's just like if the MLB didn't have a rule against performance-enhancing drugs, all the players would use it and then you'd get little kids juicing up and saying "But the pros use it! So it must be the best and most advnaced way to play!"

  • 07.05.2007 2:01 PM PDT

It is called the noob combo because, as many others have said, it takes very little skill to use. The PP homes in on people without you even having to have the reticle on them. I prefer not to use the combo because: 1) It just isn't very fun 2) There isn't much honor or respect in using it 3) It doesn't feel like I did anything to kill the person. On the other hand; Should the combo be used on me, I will resort to such tactics to win. Oh yeah for all you MLG fanatics: MLG does not determine what is cheating in terms of XBL. According to Bungie exploiting glitches like BXR and doubleshots is considered cheating. So unless you're in a custom match or playing in an MLG dealie, then you are cheating according to BUNGIE- The Makers, Creators, and intellectual property owners of Halo 2.

Would the noob combo be effective against a gauss hog, or a tank. At longer ranges, I've 4 shotted kids before they got the BR shot off from their noob combo.

Ever think that maybe they were noobs? And actually, in Halo 3, the PP will be effective against vehicles ;)
