They locked them up to keep them from getting out... you apparently didnt even play the freaking game.. the whole part after the flood gets released talks about how the Covies are absolutely terrified of the flood and them getting off the ringworld

Did you not even read one of my earlier posts? The Halo Construct was built to CONTAIN, STUDY, AND DESTROY the flood... like a giant, rotating, explosive, maximum-security zoo...

The forerunners built Halo, not the Covies...

The halo rings were built as fortress worlds that self sustained an environment suitable for long term, failsafe study of whatever the forerunner happened to be doing at the time.

Anyone considerd the thought that the next Halo ring might be where we see the new alien they are working on? The one that can flip warthogs supposedly. Something that dangerous and powerfull would merit stud and captivity on a Halo ring world.

Well someone here allready said that halos can wipe out anything inside 25.000 lightyears, and this means ''flood food'' humans, covenant or anything that flood can use as a host..
here's my point: if the prophets or the whole covenant alliance figure out how to use the halos to just wipe out humans and no other race.... that would mean serious problems!

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

well.... if we go they go with us. The Halo instalations are meant to wipe the galaxy clean of ALL sentient life capable of sustaining the flood. Which means the humans AND the coveanent.

Im betting that the new alien you refer to is probably the Brute which we know will be on earth thanks to the E3 2003 demo... unless they change it of course, or its a new arrival after earlier earth fighting.

OK here is out it works first a little plot summary
The ring in Halo 1 was designed to wipe the galaxy clean with in 25,000 light years meaning with in range of earth possibly not the covenant homeworld so if that is true the covies would have a reason to activate halo they would kill all the humans and none of their own.

As for covies locking up the flood the covies find the flood release them by accident then they lock all the doors around the flood studying area in attempt to keep the flood locked up but the humans come go threw the doors and the flood escape agian all over halo.

Now as for the prophets they told their troops to take over halo for milatary/religious reasons they did say to there men "who ever controls halo controls the fate of the universe" now we know this is not true if you control halo you only control the area 25,000 light years out side of it so maybe the covies didn't know about the flood in their attempt to arm and fire it or maybe the prophets new about the flood and wanted them to be released for some reason all will be answered in halo 2 (or possibly halo 3). In halo 2 MC will go to another ring but my bet is he will activate it because that ring is with in range of the covie home world killing all the covies.

My thumbsticks will be your Doom.... sorry 'bout that.

Ok-ay this thread began with a reference to "some halo 2 footage from a long time ago" and then the rather sloppily asked question, that probably should have read:
"wonder what it was on Halo that the Covenant could've wanted so badly," and "if there was something precious on Halo will it be on the next Halo and will it be the reason for the Covenant being there?"

And yet the title of this thread is "I have a new theory on the new halo rings".

Lets hear it Mithrandir, what's your theory? What's it called?
Or was this just to host other peoples theories, some of them well thought out and entertaining, just so you could shoot them down?

Sorry MajorOpossum, but i think the Flood have definitely been Bungiefirmed as a returning theme. Lets just hope that they come up with some new combat forms (a Brute-Flood ?) or at least limit the levels where they appear a little more. But I hear what your saying about enough with tha zombies already. I think it's a real testament to the game if you think about it. When I first went through the game and faced the Flood, I remember feeling actually relieved to be facing Covies afterwards, something that covets it's own life is more of a satisfying kill opposed to the mindless... uhhh...flood, of zombies running at you. And they hurt those zombies.

They might not have to spread the flood. If you remember our marine frinds that survived the flood might be infected and the only reason the flood didnt kill the marines was to get off the ring. So the flood might have some intelligence. This is a long shot.
