I do think it's possible packets may be dropped even though you seem to have green bar....

You think it got what it takes to be..?.

God forbid you send me one of those I was checking for cool gamers and saw you messages too, I will scream to the top of my lungs and smash this damn screen/BlackBerry to pieces! You've been warned -_-

At least in the Halo 3 beta (hopefully Halo 3) you get the option to choose a matchmaking game by the category of "Internet Connection".

Cave Johnson here, we're done!

PS: If you are reading this comment while imagining my voice, don't panic. That's just a side effect of the testing.

there are different types of lag these examples you can find in halo 2. One kind is the kind of lag that your producing. Usually you jump down to some place and end up in a never ending fall lag with the same fall reapeated over and over again. another is someone elses lag. Usually you start shooting them in the head and then they move 4 feet to the side in a split second and now your getting owned by them. Lag is baisically the server connection between two xboxes and the data is sent by one but is not recognized by another. like for example you go towards the ghost hold x and nothing happens then all of a sudden it starts moving on its own and it isnt until a few seconds later that you see someone else driving away in your ghost.

when i'm playing you one on one, you may think there is lag, but i'm really just that good :) j/k . the never ending fall is classic ...
I've noticed that there is few seconds of lag right when someone quits .. i'll be shooting at their head ... then there will be a blue screen, then they drop dead in front of me .. (no score recorded) ... one thats always fun to see is when you play with a team of three .. then they all quit together .. all three MC's drop dead in front of you at the same time. it's kinda scary.

Subject: Are there different types of lag?

I just had an incredibly frustrating night of matchmaking and I have to ask this question on here. Sometimes my internet connection seems faster than others. I know this is normal. Some nights I get host a lot and even when I don't, my connection to the host is fast and I get kills easily. Other nights, like tonight, I never get host, and my connection to the host is usually slow and I have a very hard time registering kills.

But here's the part I don't understand. Even on the bad nights, the games never *look* that laggy. Rarely is my connection so slow that the other players jump around all over my screen. The problem is that when my connection is slower none of my hits register with the host. To take the most obvious example, sometimes I can unload an entire BR clip on a guy that's standing 10-15 feet in front of me and it won't even take his shield down. I can see my Xbox registering the hits because I can see the little sparks on his body where I'm shooting him. But I know the damage isn't registering with the host because his shield never lights up, which is the confirmation that the hit has registered over the network. Some nights, like tonight, it's almost impossible for me to get kills because half or more of my hits just never resister, even when the game doesn't appear particularly laggy.

So I guess my question is whether or not this is normal and whether other people have the same problem. Some of the other players I play with say they never notice this. I'm wondering if maybe I have a connection that is basically fast but that has short intermitent breaks that cause data to be dropped or something. Or maybe this is normal and happens to everyone. It hardly seems worth switching providers since I'm happy with the service otherwise, but I'm wondering if I might not have this problem with another service. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yea, you can have lag even with green bar, but it all go's back to the way halo 2 picks host and thats terrible.

Absolutely. Being from the UK, as i am, makes it even worse. The lag lessens with gametype size obviously, but i've played terribly laggy games of team slayer, snips etc...Your shots just don't even register with the host box, even when you're nailing someone right up close. BUT, when i get host, which is admittedly not very often, i'm accused of standbying and bridging etc..because everyone else in the game has to talk to my host box to register all their movements. It's a bit of a monkey really.
