If the Covies want the Humans all died, why are they not glassing Earth? Is it going to be like Reach due to Alien Artifacts? Or do they want to research our technology? Any thoughts?

Play as a team win as a team or die as a team!

As for many Threads they are all the same I don't know but I bet there is some Alien Artifacts like Forerunner stuff and I heard someone say that Humans are like Forerunners and stuff so we don't really know so just wait and think what u want to think but I think there is something on Earth that the Covenant want.

Watch the announcement trailer and read the books. The covies always "glass" the planets. And in the trailer, that's what those explosions are. Plasma nukes.

I honestly don't think it's as easy as the Covenant just "glassing earth". I believe that there is a Forerunner object ON Earth. Also something to realize is when reading Halo: The Flood; There seems to be a connection between humanity and Forerunner - Master Chief on numerous occasions mentions how the symbols look familiar, but couldn't quite place it. Possibly they are related to ancient history such as the old Greek world, or Stonehenge? It seems that there would be something more to Earth than meets the eye, or even humanity. It could be possible that its just taking much longer to glass Earth, but I doubt it would be that simple.

First things first, there may very well be an artifact on Earth....that has yet to be determined. Second, thats not the reason the Covies are attacking earth. If you read the books...in Fall Of Reach, they talk about how the war started.*SPOILERS AHEAD* The Humans made first contact when they were in space somewhere...i dont remember sorry....this for some reason caused the Covies to attack...they replied with something like "we are the soldiers of god....it is decreed that you should die...." something to that effect...so it could very well be that they are just finishing their "mission from god" thing. second......i doubt that they will glass earth.....i dont think bungie would be sick enough to get rid of earth....afterall it's pretty much the only place humans are left......if you read First Strike you know that there are a ton of defenses....there may be a small chance that a miracle happens......and last glassing is what the humans call the covienents final move....after every battle they had won in the books....they made sure they destroyed that planet's surface....typically by big ass plasma guns on thier battle ships.....thus causing the planets surface to be completly barren

Wow. That's a lot of elipsis'. And I'm not saying that there isn't something there they want, it would fit perectly with the patter from the books. But I think that it would make sense to destroy it even if there isn't anything of value, seeing how it is the birth-place of humanity and one of the last significant military centers. I mean we wanted to attack their homeworld, why wouldnt' they want to attack ours?

Prehaps Earth, our beautiful mother, IS a forerunner construct and we are a creation of the forerunner of some sort

Its actually a lot simpler than that to begin with...

the covenant cant glass earth untill they effectivly shut down its orbital defenses. Just like Reach, Earth has MAC defense orbitals that are somewhat effective against covenant spacecraft.

All other theories do apply, but this one would be in effect before the others. They cant get into position with the MACs in place. A ground insertion to destroy the power generators for them has to be done first.

Also, if there was an artifact like the "holy light" on earth... the covenant would glass everywhere except a few hundred square kilometers around where they think its located.

Its all in the books.

it seems pretty clear they'll use the same tatics on earth as they did on reach...they'll distract then do slipspace....if you read first strike the covie ai told the big covies had to do the slipspace into the atmosphere.....from there they'll do overwhelming force like always...and besides...earth has civilians....reach was pretty much all military...if they tore through reach like that...imgaine what they'd do with a whlole bunch of non combantants
